Pretty much right behind me. Somebody said he’s in a yellow shirt so we should support him so somebody else lamped him and quite rightly as well

Then what did you mean by it? Bare in mind that relating anything about my home or private life is out of order and you've already said thats what you were trying to aim for.

    Care to rethink?

It's clear what you meant and no amount of backtracking makes it less obvious. I'm not accusing you of being homophobic - I've not said that. But you were trying to make a joke of a homosexual nature. Tie yourself in knots about that all you want.

The club are going to replace the existing Andre Gray - Lust for Glory Theatrical Cut with an Extended Director's Cut where AG opines that he would have scored more if the goals were 6 ft higher, talks candidly about the difficulties of getting a mahogany roulette wheel into his games room during lockdown, and agrees that Ross Jenkins was criticised for being a bean-pole striker in a long ball, kick and rush team who he could aspire to emulate if he could only stay onside long enough. Full-on Tw@tter meltdown sh1testorm to follow afterwards.

Well I know I am not agreeing with most people on this thread but I thought the interview was not great, but wasn't as bad as some suggest. Considering the subject matter, it would never have been an easy interview. Gray's lockdown breaches were unforgivable, but then he wasn't asking for forgiveness, he was just accepting he was wrong and taking the criticism on the chin with apologies. What else can he do, really?

Personally, I felt a little warmer towards Gray then I had before after the interview, I think he is hurting somewhat, and genuinely wants desperately to score goals. He is clearly trying to remain positive and I can only think that he shows more in training than he does on the pitch, hence the extraordinary patience the club has shown with him.

But the interview was never going to be a success as a PR exercise, as fans want more than mere highlighting one of our biggest on-field problems. The interview was a poor decision as (for the clubs critics) it could never have been a success.

As for the Luther issue. The interviewer was clearly not meaning to offend Luther, but use him as an example of how to rise above the criticism. It was clumsy and inept and deserves some criticism, but the intention was acceptable. Context matters, so I don't think Luther should be "disgusted" over it, and neither should anyone else, If Luther is embarrassed by the "Luther miss-it" name and is angry with it being mentioned, then his public disgust has only meant the that Luther miss-it has been mentioned far more times (and probably to a whole new generation of Watford fans) purely because of his complaint as brought it to wider attention.

As it is, Luther has scored 215 goals and most of them for our club, and is a hero to the vast majority that watched him, as is GT, despite whatever newspaper tags they had.

I suspect that Luther has wider (probably justifiable) concerns about the club, and has used this to have a sideways swipe at them. Maybe he could have been more explicit about those concerns instead?

A public apology would publicise the offending term that Luther is upset by! They should apologise privately, and leave it up to Luther if he wants to tell everybody.

And some of the posters on here who are complaining loudest are the same that are the most personally abusive of players on this forum. The pontificating and attempts to grab the moral high ground are quite vomit inducing.

I think there are far more serious matters going on at the club I love, than worrying about the repetition of a derogatory term from over a generation ago. (250 odd posts, and still counting).

I agree with most of what you say. I don’t fault Gray for the interview but rather the club. It was well intended but misguided. There wasn’t much else he could have said in response to the questions. However I don’t feel any warmer towards him after it and I still don’t think he warrants a place in the team.

As for Luther, because there is clearly no comparison between the two players it was clumsy of the interviewer to bring him up. You can’t say he shouldn’t have been disgusted by it; the fact is he was and therefore he should receive an apology. I don’t disagree that a private one might be best.

I agree in that I dont think he is worth a place in the team and his interview hasn't changed that, but I do think he usually tries his best and is genuinely upset with his form, but his best is just not good enough.

Yes, I think that’s right. Soon after he arrived I didn’t go along with the complaints about his past as a L*t*n player or the homophobic comments, but it was obvious he wasn’t a very good footballer. However the lockdown transgressions while being Watford player have not helped him.

Well we shouldn't have been nor should have Luther. Luther should listen to the people on this forum who say he shouldn't have been upset by a mocking nickname and he's brought it all upon himself by his silly actions. Like they all do.

Who is this Luther anyway? No popstar girlfriend, has never played in the Premier League, doesn't have a tiktok.

Why should i care what he says?

I saw some negative reactions to the interview on this forum, specifically mentioning several annoying aspects to it, but I didn't see anybody criticising the reference to Luther until after he complained.

    Maybe I missed them.

'Tie yourself in knots' this is getting way too freudian for me. If u were cute, female and 20 years younger than me I'd be a lot more interested in going down this freudian rabbit hole with u. You initiate all our conversations. I've got no interest in u or your opinions whatsoever. If u dont like my responses to your dumbass comments on my posts there's a simple solution. I'm assuming at some point you'll work it out, like a chimpanzee working out how to open a jar of peanuts!

It is not a decision to be made lightly.

If you decide to watch it, warn your friends and loved ones what you are doing first - it's only fair.

Well maybe, just maybe, in the future don’t make jokes about my private home life or jokes that are clearly designed to marginalise homosexuals (which I’m not but that’s irrelevant) and then we would not have to deal with the fallout like this.

I’m not going to put you on ignore. I’ve not done that with one person yet, I’m not going to start now because of you. Why do you keep looking for ‘freudian slips’ and trying to sexualise sentences which can easily just be taken at face value? It’s very very odd.

    I’ll leave it there.

If we weren’t so phenomenally crap at the moment, with so much that has happened recently, this would have been unwise and worthy of an apology, but swiftly forgotten. John Barnes was a legend too, but many fans like to have open season on him. Some of the comments about him have been harsh to say the least. It’s football, there will be tittle tattle.

Just googled to see if Luther is still under 65 and therefore would be an improvement on Gray (who is 29).

    He's 63.

    Get him in the team.

I mean, genuinely, other than deliberately scoring own goals, how could anyone not match his contribution? If i just stood on then centre spot, not doing daft flicks to the opposition, and not making the rest of the team lose posession by passing to me, i’d contribute more.
