Sheff Utd were relegated from the old Div 3 in the late 70s i recall with a positive GD.

    EDIT - actually 1981 - just checked - https://www.theguardian.com/football/2004/may/05/theknowledge.sport

Interesting. So, according to your theory, Mr HH, who has steadfastly supported Liverpool throughout his life (despite growing up in Manchester from a young age and playing for the Manchester United youth team), lost the right to have a view, or consider himself a fan, when he made the decision to step away from regularly attending football matches hundreds of miles away to spend that time with his family. Oh, and I also gave up my season ticket after having children and only manage to go to a handful of games every year, so I guess I'm also a **** who isn't a fan.
Here's another couple of theories for you:
    1. Going to matches regularly certainly doesn't automatically result in a better grasp of the game. Just listen to the utter garbage spouted around the Rookery for evidence of that.
    2. People who make wild claims about what constitutes a "proper" football fan, without any knowledge of individuals' circumstances are, in fact, the ones behaving like *****.
Be bl**dy angry about last night's result, by all means - but don't be bl**dy unreasonable.

Anyhoo, I think we can safely say Molly's experiment was, by all accounts, an unmitigated disaster. He was not quoted in the Echo, nor even on any LFC forum so far as I know. Moog was the only Liverpool fan infiltrating this forum and it's fair to say he was far from irate. We were tonked and this little bit of idiocy helped us not one jot.

Moving on, if we want to rankle the opposition, want to get under their skins or get quoted in their local rag we just leave it to Clive to write the previews.

So, Annie had a huge argument with Naomi because Naomi suspected Annie of cheating with her boyfriend, Liam, who was really cheating with her sister, Jen, she then stormed out, despite being drunk, and drove home, swigging from a bottle of vodka, but on the way, she hits something/someone and speeds off to avoid being busted for drink driving, meanwhile Adrianna gives birth and immediately gives the baby up for adoption and its revealed that Brenda, who had been confirmed as unable to bear children, has just adopted a daughter from China, then Liam, whose parents are upset by his bad boy ways, arrange for him to be forcibly taken to a bootcamp/military school. Some other kids kissed and stuff when they shouldn't but I can't remember who or why.

I am sure there are times when Mr HH deserves to be called a "tw*t" - just not for the reasons you gave. And, if he mistakes my graciousness this morning with carte blanche to continue with any further match analysis on his return home, I am sure I will be tempted to call him one myself. ;)

I do see what you mean but 2 months is quite a large anomaly and I like to look at as, we're not playing well so we will set up that makes us hard to break down which I think we've done. Unfortunately I don't thionk the set up was correct last night as Liverpool play with width and we don't so the wide players had a field day

Plenty of praise? I must have missed that post. I'm not precious about the team and they, and Gracia, are quite rightly being criticised for the performance last night. I don't feel spineless is the correct term as that would suggest they couldn't care less and I don't feel that's the case.

In the minute or so before their goal, we had cleared the ball, and were set to break forward with what looked like a 4 v 3 in our favor.

Doucoure inexplicably played the ball 35 yards back toward our goal, with (I think) Geri, Deeney, and Capoue breaking forward into acres of space.

Capoue, in the center circle, raised his arms in a sign of confusion/frustration at the pass made by his midfield partner. The ball was cycled along our back line, ending with Mapps, who sends one of his classic chipped passes toward Deeney, who then obviously found himself beaten by VVD. Pool pick it up in the middle, work it right, send in the cross and score the opening goal. Game over.

Still can’t work out why Doucoure didn’t realize we had a glorious chance to break. If he lays it off to Capoue, we’re looking at getting Geri in on goal, with Deeney arriving in the box for a pass or loose scraps.

Really annoyed about the negative goal difference as well.

Unbelievable, I thought we were in for a back and forth slanging match that takes over the entire thread, which considering the result would not be a bad thing, but we get apologies and nicely worded responses. FFS, get a grip. We don't need this kind of thing on here, now one of you call the other a ****** and lets crack on

I only saw the highlights on MOTD, but that was depressing enough - and no consolation thst we were on first for once.

But since Massina was having a nightmare and isn't very good anyway, why not put somebody on who could protect him? Pereyra certainly isn't the man for that

Have been in a mood all day, now time to be rational

I ******* hate Liverpool and their arrogant ******* fans

We got stuffed , I think in reality Javi got it wrong with the formation but he has got us to 7th/8th so **** it trust in Javi

I actually didn’t think we were that bad for the whole match , just kept doing really stupid things and giving Liverpool too much space. It’s almost admirable that we are trying to play tippy tappy football against Liverpool but we are just not quite good enough to do it against a good club. At 2:0 I was thinking if we could just get a goal we could shake them a bit , but just wasn’t our night.

I think the differnce yesterday was Van ****Head , yes Salah is class , yes Mane is class but he just seemed to be there mopping up any issues at th back.

I think a Deeney and Gerry D were doing their best and was a bit nervous when they came off to be replace by Sema and can remember who else

The real disappointment for me (apart from loosing by 5 goals, dropping to 8th , having to face a steady succession of Liverpool fans today) is Bobby P , he just doesn’t look interested anymore , he has got such a massive talent but where are the performances from earlier in the season

It is worth having Bobby P in the team against teams below us, but I would not play him against top 6 sides. I would rather see Cleverly play when we need to be more solid and work hard to keep the opposition in check.

Bobby P might still be interested if Scaloni does not pick him in the forthcoming Argentina friendlies and might decide he may have to buck up his ideas as de Paul and di Maria will take precedence over him.

As a club we have come an extraordinarily long way. But it is irksome nonetheless that trips to Anfield and against Abu Dhabi United seem to result in mental implosions. We need to make these matches more competitive.

To win such games as Crystal Palace did against Abu Dhabi United requires a measure of luck, a world class finish, the right tactics, working hard as a unit for every single minute and hoing the opposition might be a little under par.

We with the players we have are better than a 5-0 drubbing. But the tactics were poor. There was no attempt to clamp down on Arnold or Robertson or flood the midfield. Play on the counter with Gray and Deulofeu pace wise. Even sacrifice Pereyra and play Cleverley wide with a job to take out Arnold for example. And yet again more soft set piece goals. It's something Gracia has yet to eliminate from last season while other things have improved. It still highlights the need for a better calibre of centre back than the hard working and committed Mariappa. Holebas may have had his fair share of criticism here but he has that hunger and desire to prove that he is a good player. Fire in the belly. Something some players seem to have had put out by the mere thought of playing Liverpool. You need self belief and a top class manager like Simeone transmits that desire for resilience along with exhaustive defensive preparation into making a team as difficult to beat as possible.

We gave up two very soft goals and I stopped watching. It is one thing to be outplayed and beaten by a side that are simply better no matter what you do but another thing to turn over and have your stomach tickled without much fight or making it hard as possible.

I remember that break. It wasn't a great pass by Doucouré as it was behind Pereyra who had to go back to collect it. But the ball should've gone to Doucouré quicker as he had to wait to receive the pass which made his ball onwards harder. I think it was Deulofeu who held on too long?

Anyway, it's a good example of how you need everything to be right to win these kind of games. One delayed pass in a promising break leads to another that's behind someone and 60 seconds later you're behind.

I've been biting my tongue here out of respect for HH, but I have to say, if someone born in Manchester, living in Hampshire and who didn't attend games was speaking to me about the result on Wed night, I'd pay them as much attention as a 6 year old who was giving me financial advice.

  33. HappyHornet24

No worries, moog. A number of factual inaccuracies in your point above, though:
    - I didn't say he was born in Manchester; born in Liverpool but moved away at a young age (young enough not to develop a scouse accent, thankfully)
    - I didn't say he never attended games; I said he didn't regularly attend games "hundreds of miles away" ( i.e. in Liverpool) as it's too far away. Like me, he attends a handful of games a season; this year we went to Watford v Liverpool together. This is irrelevant to my original point, though, which was that someone doesn't need to physically attend matches to be considered a fan, or have a right to an opinion - a point I still stand by.
    - Much as it sometimes pains me to admit it when we're on opposite sides, Mr HH really knows his stuff when it comes to football
    - If that 6 yr old you allude to was one of the kids featured on 'Child Genius', I probably would pay attention!

Anyway, for the record, conversation in the HH household had moved on from football to Romeo and Juliet by last night, as the 15 yr old's GCSE essay deadline is today. Over and out.

Absolutely. In fact, I'd go further and say whenever we will be mainly counter-attacking as our main option then I'd pick someone else. But he has the ability to break teams down when they sit deep and / or we have the majority of the possession.
