I think it took him a while to adjust back to Premier League after a year in the championship. I thought he was ok for us at the end. WHU fans all seem to rate him after initial indifference when they signed him as cover, after the failure to sign Tarkowski (who certainly isn’t worth the reported£30 million asking price). I reckon in Dawson they have a competent player and saved themselves a lot on their original target - wages and fee.
Did have a brief purple patch after lockdown, although it all came crashing down. Let us down badly at Arsenal albeit he was just one member of a pretty shambolic defensive unit. Not convinced by his upturn in form, it is just a couple of games really, no more than what he did for us last season, he's had a few seasons now of being pretty crap, and may well go back to that when he gets the big contract. Besides, even if he is good nowadays, is he any better than what we have at the moment? WTE and Sierralta are doing the business at the moment, and Sierralta and Wilmot are two players who could be the long-term future of the club
I wouldn't be sad if West Ham signed him permanently, and I was one defending him several times last season, feeling that he'd been unfairly made a scapegoat for our failings as an example of our poor recruitment rather than for what he actually contributed. In the end just one of several mercenaries of us who thought he was too good for the Championship - if there's one good thing to come out of relegation it's that it shows which players are truly committed to the club, like Femenia, Sarr, Cathcart, Masina, Cleverley, Hughes, Chalobah, Deeney (whatever his critics say and his supposed arrogance) and Pedro.
He was crap. Capable of utterly mindless decision making and horrible sense of positioning. In fairness to him, I feel like he’s one of those defenders that plays better next to a commanding partner, who’ll organize and constantly be on him, and we gave him Cathcart, who more resembles the defensive version of Glenn Murray with each passing week.
I did think you were about to write Glenn Miller as he disappeared without a trace when defending, but I have had a glass of proseco!
If he tears it up for WH then good for them. More than happy for us to sell him and break even on our outlay. Absolutely no FOMO from me regarding this guy as I've seen enough to judge that we don't need him.
Seen figures of £2-3m bandied around, we're never going to break even on him, but I'd take that, if they could give us that now, maybe we could actually bring someone in this window!
Being reported WHU are gonna give us £3m for him this month - which allows them to add another domestic loan (Jesse Lingard). Its either sign Dawson or Benrahma permanently this month (Benrahma already due to join perm in the summer but for £20m+).
Make it happen! £3m would be good business, yes we make a small loss but compared to the loss in value that we had in Doucoure and those gone to Udinese on loan, it's a drop in the ocean.
Yeah, and he's no spring chicken so even if we'd stayed up I don't know if we could recoup what we paid for him. If we are to sell him now, I hope it's quick so we actually get time to bring someone in, or else from our perspective we might as well do it in the summer
Bit weird that, per reports, West Ham are converting their deal with Benrahma to a perm to allow for another loan signing and not their deal with Dawson, which would of course be substantially cheaper. I know that the Benrahma deal had an obligation to buy (provided his injury doesn’t flare up) rather than an option, but still would have thought it would make more sense to do it with Dawson, if they’re planning on buying him at the end of the season anyway.
Let's get rid of this tosspot. Annoys me even more that he was so instrumental in our relegation and is now grinning his big eared grin playing well for West Ham.
He has having a lucky spell in a team that is playing well I would wager that he will be back to being **** within a month.
West Brom fans seemed happy enough to get rid of him, he isn't that good a lot of the poor defending last season was because of Dawson.
Tbf he was mediocre with West Brom in his last two years there. A cheap punt which didn't work out for us, and I suspect it'll come crashing down for him at West Ham too
Yep but he has a good 9 years there overall. Bad at WBA when they went down, bad for us in our shambles season. Good again at West Ham. Take your pick.
Let's see how West Ham and Dawson get on as the season goes on, I'll still be surprised if they finish in the top half
Not really an opinion because it has happened. We conceded plenty of goals because of his poor marking and bad decision making everyone on here witnessed it, so it's more a matter of fact. His last game for us he give away a stupid penalty in a must with game after 5 minutes, or is it the rest or defences fault Dawson needlessly clattered into the back of Aubemayang?
Not possible it’s poor organisation on our part? Just like Berghuis must be garbage based on his poor deployment for Watford. Or Success looking good for Granada but awful for us. Or whatever happened to Peneranda. Or Sinclair. Or Dahlberg. Is it possible the problem is Watford under Pozzo and not the players?
I am sorry but you cannot be blaming other people and the club if you are a centre back making rash challenges in the box and not picking up players.
And our other centre backs don’t do this? Cathcart’s disgraceful performance against Everton? Mariappa ridiculous own goal v Brighton? Kabasele numerous brain fades to cost us points?
What is the relevance? I was stating that Dawson is not very good at Premier league level and despite some good form currently, the likelihood is it won't last. Cathcart and Mariappa and Kabasele are all crap at that level also. Do their mistakes make Dawson less accountable for his?
