Although at the time of posting there has been no confirmation that he was in the helicopter it would appear that it is likely, possibly with other family members and pilots.

This is obviously a very sad event and my sympathies go to all the family and friends of those affected.

I guess my point of this thread though is where does that leave Leicester when their benefactor is taken away suddenly? They, like many clubs including ours, are generally reliant upon a wealthy owner, where will that leave them without him? Are too many teams now so over reliant upon the wealth of an individual that it is unhealthy for the sport?

From what I understand he was well liked and loved by the fans, similar I would suggest to the regard in which Gino is held at Watford. A sad day for all concerned.

Absolutely awful news. It's moments like this where you disregard any form of rivalry. God know's what Leicester fans are feeling but I for one would be devastated if something similar happened to Gino.

Didn't the Southampton owner die suddenly when they were in league 1? I think it was the regime that stopped their rot and turned things around, the club continued to thrive afterwards.

It's probably too early to be asking these questions, however the fallout from this is going to be enormous for Leicester as a club.

I suppose his immediate family would inherit his wealth, but it remains to be seen if they would want to carry their father's legacy on?

Think in that case the daughter took over and then sold them on.

The owners son is the Vice chairman at Leicester I believe so he will be involved although clearly at this tragic time he will have more important things on his mind .

And that's aside from the fact that every time he visits the stadium it'll act as a constant reminder of his dad's final moments.

Let's hope from Leicesters point of view the Son is happy to carry on, he is I believe vice chairman so obviously has an amount of affinity!

Any well run company will have business continuity plans in place and although you can't lessen the emotional impact, the business will carry on.

A terrible tragedy. My thoughts are with those affected.

I think his legacy will also be a unifying spirit as the way he ran the club and helped the city of Leicester brought diverse communities together.
The outpouring of emotion and comments from their fans show how much he was loved.

And no one can take away their 5000 - 1 odds Premier League Champions wonder season.

    R.I.P.

Can't help noticing the lengths presenters and the like go to avoid attempting saying his last name. 'Leicester's owner'; 'the man affectionately called Vichai'; or just plain 'Mr Vichai' being some of the preferred cop outs.

Agreed Dennis, the only problem is that lots of football clubs are not that well run, or at least not very self supporting from a financial perspective, there are significant 'owners loans' everywhere you look, including at Watford. Without an owner to loan or to lose an owner and need to repay the estate would be a disaster for many a club unless the next wealthy individual comes in to save the day.

Can't remember the figure, is it £30m or £40m we are into Gino for?

Maybe a little crass under the circumstances but maybe the lengths to avoid using his name are shorter than the lengths required to pronounce or spell it, have to say I didn't attempt it in the OP.

Have you seen his surname? Imagine having to say it in a serious news story without tripping up. It would be dreadful to mispronounce or stammer over it.

I do not blame anyone for avoiding saying it, and have admiration for those who have pulled it off perfectly,

This weekends two main news items are very close to me, the owner of Leicester City lived two miles from me in one direction (I went past there this morning and saw signs saying " King Power Polo Club " a mile in the other direction from where I live Glen Hoddle lives!

I was going to post the same thing. Football clubs are unique in the sense that many don’t actually make money, the guy is/was worth £3.8 billion or something like that, He wouldn’t have needed Leicester to make money he already had enough of that. For most wealthy owners its more of a hobby or a vanity project rather than a business as such.

Only the real top clubs really make any significant money, for the rest of us to compete it requires significant investment. If the son doesn’t share the same enthusiasm for the club that his father did it doesn’t matter what continuity plans are in place, he might not have any interest in continuing to run a business that he has no interest in and doesn’t really make money.

i'm not suggesting that there would be no impact but covering the loan would be part of any continuity plan.

Hope you're sitting down because, unbelievable as it will appear, yes I have seen his surname.

Radio and tv presenters are professionals, it's their job to learn how to pronounce names of people in the news. Moira Stewart puts them to shame.

If you had ever seen his name, 10 seconds of just looking at it makes it very easy to pronounce. Can I help you try: Srivadd....hana...prabha.

Even a dolt should be able to string that together. Granted it may be nothing like it's said in his native tongue but better than pitifuly refering to him as 'the Thai businessman'.

I did read the surname is actually a title given to them by the Thai government:

"Mr Vichai was born under the surname Raksriaksorn. In 2013, the Thai king bestowed the businessman with the new family name, Srivaddhanaprabha. It is a Thai tradition for the ruling monarch to grant honorary surnames to citizens who have made significant contributions to the country"

Dramatic footage of the helicopter crash from the club's CCTV. You can see it take off normally. The sound seems muted, but once it just goes out of frame you can hear a bang, then moments later you can see the helicopter rotating out of control dropping quickly into the car park.

I read the headlines on The Sun as I was in the shops today, and they said he was a hero pilot as he deliberately steered away from where people were, but it's clear it was totally out of control and just fell where it fell.

It sounds like either a small explosion or it hit something. I did read somewhere it may have hit a police surveillance drone, or maybe a drone used by BT Sport. That would make more sense as to why it crashed, although the police denied it was their drone in a statement today.

The AAIB are studying the flight data recorder and the remains of the helicopter have been taken to their Farnborough facilities for further analysis.

Pretty sure thats not CCTV from lcfc. Also the bang is a door closing or someone putting their keys on the desk.

It’s CCTV from a car dealership opposite the stadium. Although I’ve seen quite a few pilots state it’s clear the pilot is performing a recognised manoeuvre that helps steer stricken helicopters away from crowded areas - it may look out of control but I’m inclined to take the word of experts on this one.

I’m really not sure why the CCTV footage has been made public. What are we gaining from it? Seems kinda morbid to me. Same goes for the graphic up-close footage of watching the wreckage burn moments after the crash, although I accept it would have been hard to keep that out of the media due to the number of people in the vicinity.

Fortunately, by that point majority of people would've left the general area I guess as it's an hour after the match ended.

Not the actual CCTV footage is it, looks like somebody recorded it off their phone and has probably forwarded to their mates or put it on social media and gone on from there - still not particularly nice really.

It is CCTV. It’s from the roof of the car dealership opposite and aimed at the cars on the forecourt of the dealership. Just happens that the stadium is in the background. But it’s been widely reported that’s where the footage is from. How it’s made it’s way into the hands of the gutter press, one can only guess.

He means it's not the actual CCTV footage but someone filming it being played back on a tv. Which suggests it might not have been from an "official" source but a private person passing it on to the tabloids.. for a nice fee i'd guess.

Last 15 odd years middle of the rookery, previous to that many years in the first row above the players tunnel in the de-commissioned main stand, which unfortunately was known as dead mans row!
