Not necessarily, he made it clear in previous interviews as well that MM is part of our future and INTEGRAL to our plans. Forget compo, he is the prized asset

He will know, MM would have told him I want to go, i'm not sure, I want to stay. If Cardiff come back again, i'd suggest MM's representatives would have told Cardiff MM wants to go, talk to watford again.

Malky has repeatedly said in relation to our younger players renewing contracts with WFC, that they'd be better developing their careers at WFC rather than jumping ship at the first opportunity to a "big" club.

Time for Malky Mackay to show that he meant what he said and that it wasn't all hogwash.

He hasn't really been a manager that long, only one full season's experience.

    What's the rush to leave?

And for a basket case club like Cardiff?

MM has always conducted himself as a man of integrity.

I would love it if the arrogance of a club that considers that they only have to wave enough money at him because they is big is shown as futile.

Obviously it's great that Bas has rejected the approach, but I wish we knew what was really going on. We're talking based on rumour and interpretation. Based on that I get the impression Malky does want to go, since he's not uttered a word.
If that's the case is Bas playing hard? Or is he forcing Malky to lose the fans instead of himself? It doesnt strike me as a particularly healthy situation, and I'd much rather Bas left Malky to make the decision, instead of having them having to stab each other in the back.

i'm sure that they have already discussed the situation, after all its been rife for a week now and they had a meeting yesterday to discuss next seasons plans.

When the approach came in i bet BBB called MM and let him know what his response was going to be.

This by far the best thing for Bas to have done.

What would us fans have said if he just stepped aside and let MM walk away.
I think this at least shows that Bas is prepared to fight for this club!

I don't know why everyone is assuming that Malky wants to go.

He signed a new contract a matter of months ago and he has always said that he wants to build something here rather than jumping ship ala Rodgers. If he does want to go I can only assume that it is as a result of differing aims and ambitions of the club and the Colonel. In all fairness though, the Colonel has acted well in rejecting Cardiff's approach outright and putting a blunt message on the official site. Let's just hope that this is the end of it and Malky gives an indication of his happiness at the club so we can all move on and look forward to the new season.

As for these alleged meetings with Cardiff that Malky has been rumoured to have had; absolute nonsense. Malky is a man of integrity and loyalty and I know full well that any suggestion of him going behind the club's back and talking to the taffs is absolute lies. The man just doesn't conduct himself in such a way as a rule. Brendan Rodgers he ain't.

but we aren't gonna know what really is happening in private conversations, why would we?... fair play to Bas for making a brief statement asap.

at least we are being informed of some fact, and we don't have to rely on rumour for that.

as someone else already mentioned, he's been quite open with figures etc on the DG & Buckley move (more so than others would have been).

I think that by rejecting the first approach Bas has sent out a defiant message but let's face it; anyone would have done the exact same thing in rejecting the first bid.

It's all about how Bas acts now and whether or not he can stand firm and persuade Malky to stay.

I think ultimately, if Malky genuinely wants to go, then he will. He is a man of integrity. He was critical of the way Brendan Rodgers handled his move away from the club and he pursuit of Tommy Smith, so he would not want to be hypocritical of that stance.

Having said that, as someone has already posted, his Representatives, would not be bound under the same loyalty. Up to now, they would have been the contact between Malky & Cardiff City. It is fair to assume therefore that it could simply be that his agent has asked the question of Malky, if he would be interested if such an approach was made, and he has at least said yes to that.

In Wales, it has been reported not just on the forums but in the written and broadcast media, that Malky was the front runner for the job and was specifically known to have decalred his interest in taking over. I suspect the only reason they performed a U-turn and went for Shearer, is that the Malaysian owners (who have just come into the country), were eager to go with a known name instead.

I know we have turned down an official approach but ultimately as with Brendan, if he genuinely wants to go, he will. I am going by memory now but I am sure at the time, Malky was appointed, that the Russos made a point of saying that if Malky did end up leaving whilst in contract, we would get 'a load of dough - more than what we got for Brendan Rodgers' or words to that effect. I think I read at the time, something in the region of £800K, stipulated in the contract.

Now, it is quite plausable, that as Malky signed a new deal earlier this year, that this figure was reduced and/or removed at that time.

My gut feeling in this - Malky is disillusioned with the current state of the club, the player sales, the budget for 2011/12 and his relationship with the new owner. He probably knows therefore, it is likely his reputation will not get any higher than it is now, whilst Watford manager. If we struggle next season (and remember, he said how hard it was to stay competitive on the 2nd lowest budget in the league last season), then it is likely we go down and his reputation tarnished as a result.

From his perspective therefore, the time to go is now - sadly for us. Hope I am wrong as I am very underwhelmed with the new owners and the preceived direction of the club now.

Deja vu or what. Just like with Rodgers we are losing the best part of the close season in limbo. Who would want to sign for us at the moment when they don't know who the manager will be?

We should let him have the interview, he will then see that the grass is not greener on the otherside, and Wales is no where as nice to live as Berko! His kids would be picked on at school for being English!!!

If we dont let him have a chat he will hold it against bassi and the club, if we let him have a chat and he turns them down they we will all be stronger!

That's a reasonable view and I would add just one more angle. Malky ultimately wants to manage Celtic and Scotland and I have the feeling that money is not his main motivator. His next move MUST be a stepping stone towards his ultimate goal.
Unless Cardiff have at least £10 million for transfers they will not be challenging at the end of this coming season. They have lost, and will lose, a lot of players. If Malky goes to Cardiff he will be expected to gain promotion and that won't be easy. With that in mind he may bide his time - it's in Cardiff's hands. Does Cardiff have a war chest to give their new manager?

All the people saying that they wouldn't mind as long as we got some dough for it, being realistic, I think yes, if it's him going for free or going for compensation, its obvious what to do..

But letting him go, thats a different matter. At this point in the season, and this point of WFCs life, I don't really think it's an option to let him go.. for any money (obviously if it's for something stupid but you get my meaning, I hope)

I don't necessarily think it is a good idea to not allow Malky to speak to Cardiff. You never know he might come to the same conclusion as Alan Shearer and turn the job down. It is not in Watford's interest to keep an unhappy manager as he is unlikley to give 100%.

Agreed and it looks like the ultimate decision is down to him.

I woudln't usually say that a good amount of money for our manager is a bad thing, but the fact that we've just lost 2 good players and have got in a fair bit of dosh, what we want is someone who knows what they want to do with the money, what the squad needs and knowledge of the clubs scouting/transfer 'schedule' (the right word escapes me)

Anybody that did Geography or Sociology at school will know about ''Push and Pull'' factors that are involved in someone leaving one area and going to another. I believe that Malky going to Cardiff is very much the cause of push factors rather than the pull of Cardiff. He wants out it would seem and we will know for certain why in the next few weeks/months.
