EXCLUSIVE: CARDIFF CITY have made an approach to Watford to make Malky Mackay new Bluebirds boss, Wales Online understands.

Cardiff saw talks with former England striker Alan Shearer break down at the 11th hour on Tuesday as they seek to find a replacement for the sacked Dave Jones.

And it is believed they have now turned to Hornets chief Mackay, with contact understood to have been made to officials at Vicarage Road.

Cardiff will now hope permission will be granted by their Championship rivals to speak to the 39-year-old Scot, highly-regarded after an impressive two seasons as Watford boss.

Mackay is thought to be keen on the Cardiff role but the Bluebirds would have to agree compensation with Watford for his services if they want to hand him the hot-seat at Cardiff City Stadium.

It's going to be a busy day on here.

 

Malks wants the job. Either Bas says no and forces him to resign or says yes and pushes huge compensation.

What would you do?

 

I don't think he'll go.

Just a feeling I have.

 

Hopefully around £1 million but I'd be surprised if it's anything over 600k to be honest.

I do see why he would want to move so best of luck to him if he does.

 

A definate sidestep in my opinion, but maybe bigger wage makes it a risk worth taking in his mind??

So if the earlier post is 100% true that he wants it. Then.....Why keep an unhappy manager, the same way you woudn't want to keep an uhnappy player!

 

It should have really said Malks appears to want it as the job was his. But if we reject the approach, as someone else has said, I think that Malky wouldn't walk if we told him to honour our contract.

But its a risk

 

Woukd it no tbe best to just let him go if he wants and get on with finding a new manager taht wants to be here? And also grab as much compensation from the welsh people as we can??

i personally think Malky would be taking a step backwards if he took the baaaardiff job. If he goes, he goes. Best of luck to him.

 

Be interesting to see the clubs stance! We will get over it no matter what the result is.

 

We will move on, we always do and hopefully continue to get stronger. Real worry is IF malky goes, who will he take with him? JE? MT? DC?

 

Yes, but now these days, it seems that contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on. No one seems to honour them anymore.

Bas could make him honour the 3 years or whatever, but would he be fully committed to the Watford cause? I'm not implying he would be unprofressional in anyway whatsoever because in my mind i don't think he's like that. But the implication could be there.

Bas & MM could front up together and say no we are in this together or Bas could come out and say, rather quickly as it was expected, approch granted.

Its a delicate matter. Doubt you will have MM come out and say he is happy here as it puts off further clubs in the future and I think he is perhaps interested!!

Bas must come out and say that MM wanted to test himself at another level, so we will find a replacement and move on

 

Thats the big worry... would we have enough time to get a manager and replacement players he wants in time for pre-season, even the start of season!!
