On ESPN's live transfer talk page (you'd have to scroll down a little to find the piece) Peruzza's name is linked with Watford and a host of other clubs.

A 6ft+ left-footed centre forward who seems to have started his career in Italy with Empoli. All details, such as they are, can be seen below.

So another 'one for the future' then? Can't wait for us to ruin his career with constant loans to the Belgian league...

Interesting; never played outside the USL so certainly not seeming like someone who is going to come and even have the idea of playing for us in his head, given that he's never even made an appearance for Toronto in MLS yet.

Granted, Toronto have been a bit of an MLS powerhouse in recent seasons, but not so much in the time he would have been eligible, and younger players than him have managed to not only feature for teams in the league, but stand out well enough to be bought by European clubs on the back of those appearances. Alphonso Davies, for example, played 65 games for the Whitecaps, getting signed by Bayern at the age of 17 in the process.

Now, I'm not expecting every MLS export from now on to match Davies' trajectory, quite clearly, but it does show that he is hardly advanced for his age, particularly considering the ecosystem he's playing in. I don't imagine if he did come here that we would actually lay eyes on him any time soon.

The standard of the second teams isn’t much, so not getting in the mls side is alarming but you never know he could be a talent.

The rules for signing players in the MLS are ludicrously complicated. Not having signed a contract yet doesn't necessarily mean much in itself - it might be he just hasn't been eligible yet.

It's worth noting is that he seems to have been in Empoli's youth team from the age of 13-17, then he joined Toronto at 17.

Not all the MLS signing rules seem to be stated online, but one thing that's clear is that players must have been in the club's academy for a year before they can sign a professional MLS contract under their "homegrown" rule and so Perruzza would only have been eligible under that criteria as of November 2019. Maybe he didn't sign at that point because he wanted or had to wait until the new season, or perhaps he just wanted to wait and see what other offers he could get while still a free agent. There could have also been additional criteria he might not have met yet.

Something I don't understand though is why he would have left Empoli's academy at 17? Was he released? Not a good omen if so given Empoli are in Serie B.

A final thing, he's already signed up to an agency where the overwhelming majority of its players play in England, including Dele Alli, Danny Rose and Nathaniel Chalobah; so maybe he's held out from signing a pro contract elsewhere so far simply because he ideally wants to play in England.
