JOL AIMS TO LAND YOUNG GUN ASHLEY
SPURS boss Martin Jol is ready to bid £3million to land Watford's Ashley Young when the transfer window opens next week.

The White Hart Lane chief is looking for a left-sided midfielder after failing to sign Stewart Downing or Luis Boa Morte in August.

Although Young has been playing as a central striker for the Hornets for much of this season Jol sees the 21-year-old as the potential solution.

I wouldn't think that Aidy would sell but if he did it would have to be £5 mill plus at the minimum.

IF the board want any chance of staying up they must NOT sell our decent players in the middle of this season when we have very few quality players as it is.

In the summer should we actually get relegated then yes I can understand any sale for over 3 million as Young still has a lot to prove so we should not expect 5 million or so.

With the position we are in, selling in the middle of the season seems to me to be a silly suggestion.

Would be utterly ridiculous to sell in January but at a minimum of £3.5-£4M at the end of the season i wouldn't object.

Agree with the above. Not now, later. Then we can assess. It'd be stupid to turn down decent money for any player - but to do so mid-season would be loony. Lets hope the board aren't swayed if such a bid comes in.

Ashley Young is the brightest player we have in the team and he is young and learning every game if we go down and get a good offer for him then i would take it but if we stay up we should keep him.!

I don't think Ash would go to '3 Point Lane' seeing as he is a GOONER!!

I spoke to a Spurs fan this evening and he said that he read someone on their forum who supposedly knows someone in the club who says that the deal will only happen in January if we buy 3 strikers in the window, if not then the deal will happen in the summer.

He also said it would be for £5mil, not £3mil.

I've no idea how reliable this is though obviously.

Who is a better player - Ashley or Jermaine Pennant? Who has the most potential to improve?

    Ashley both times.

If Pennant was worth £6m then there's a guide. £5m to Spurs right now would be a poor deal.

Now is the time to tie up a deal in the event of relegation, but we need him until then.

"Boothroyd denied Tottenham had made a bid for Young, but revealed he had turned down other offers for the skilful youngster.

The 35-year-old boss added: 'Spurs have not made any bids. I have had bids from other clubs and I have rejected them.

'Ashley is a key part of what we want to do here.'
