Yeah but look how good Troy was when he was 20, Cucho is miles behind clearly...

Of course he does. However Rousy has consulted WhoScored and Wikipedia and has concluded that the player is simply not up to it.

I trust this concludes the matter and Cucho should be released.

Hey, I've also watched a few full matches of him for Colombia U20s, and a couple of halves of him at Huesca last season, thank you very much!

You'd expect him to shine at that level but even so, looked good in this game playing from the left wing

JP looks OK and when he learns English he will get even better, as it must be hard to play well when he cannot communicate with his team mates.

Talking of team mates, I thought our No.3 looked pretty good, maybe we could stop looking for a new LB as maybe he might be ready to step up to the 1st team squad soon?

Who is he by the way?

Just checked the video again and you are right Opti

He certainly looks good going forward, but I did not see enough of his defending to form an opinion of how good a defender he is.

    Cameron Green.

It was the first time I'd seen him play 90 minutes at left back and he was okay.
He was better at going forward than defending.
Possibly left exposed defensively by Joao Pedro at times.

    He's extremely quick.
A leader within the group as instructions from the sidelines and organising on pitch went through him.
Involved with set pieces but nothing outstanding.

I saw him play left sided centre back against Plymouth and he looked quite capable there.

He did seem to play well, but his main problem was with his final ball, either the pass or the shot.

He looks as if he should have had at least one, if not two goals based on the excellent positions he got himself in to. He also selfishly went for goal from a very tight angle on one occasion when there were players waiting for a pass in to the box, and he blasted it well wide.

Improved decision making in those kinds of areas should come with age, but it is a tad disappointing he couldn't find the corners with his shots given his reputation as a goalscorer.

One thing this vid also emphasised to me again is he looks a long way off being a number 9/centre forward; his style of play and build definitely appears to suit a wide forward position more (at least for the foreseeable future).

Anyone got any idea why we brought him over to play with our crappy u23s in empty stadia instead of leaving him to carry on developing and playing senior football? Nope, me neither.

Can never quite understand the Brazilian season - think he'd been injured for a while then was back in the squad but then there was a six week break during which he came over to us. Either way, chances are if he'd stayed there he'd have played a lot more meaningful football as we clearly have no intention of using him (other than for slightly creepy YouTube videos focusing on him playing for the u23s).

Club massively overhyped him. Pearson was asked about him before his move went through and basically said we’d not be relying on youth players. That put him in his place and he did little against Tranmere to prove Nige wrong.

  14. He’s 18 years old. It was silly for people to put too high an expectation on him. Richarlison was 2 or 3 years older and ready for the first team when he joined. Pedro isn’t. Let him develop. Playing in the U23s is a sensible first step.

I think it's more a case of needing to adapt. He'd played many games in the Brazilian league and scored some great goals. He's clearly talented. But playing in the prem in the cold for a team facing a relegation battle is just so different. It's only on this forum that he was announced as the saviour of our season.

Well the club made a big thing of him joining which got some excited...

But guess everyone and everything gets hyped up on Twitter.

"Big thing about him joining", fine, but they didn't say that he was going to fire us to safety THIS season. That's what this forum assumed.

WFC having been playing him in the U23s in empty stadiums to prepare him for the run-in. During the final games all played behind closed doors he will be ready and "fire us to satety"

Poetry in motion. Silky. Good touch. An eye for goal. He certainly has what it takes. But he does need to strengthen a little more. He should be leading the line with Welbeck next season. They will terrify the opposition. All they need to be careful of is not getting clattered by some of the cloggers that inhabit it.

Criminally underused by Pearson along with Pussetto and Quina. Players with a positive attacking mindset who are all technically very sound. In one sense you can agree with Floppo and Gnomio moaning about NP and his decisions.

With Udinese winning at the moment and seemingly guaranteed Serie A safety, I wonder if Joao Pedro and/or Sarr will end up there either on loan or permanently. Maybe Cucho too.

I think JP & Cucho could do with a season in the Championship to increase their worth (for Watfords sake) and to play regularly against lesser opponents for their sake.

If they send them to Udinese, expect the happy clapper numbers to reduce significantly pretty much immediately.

I hope not. They are both still youngsters with time on their side. Neither is going to be breaking into the Colombian or Brazilian national teams anytime soon. They still have plenty to learn and the Chump will be a good classroom. It will certainly toughen them up. We need to get back up ASAP given the financial implications.

I'd imagine Sarr wants and probably should be playing in one of Europe's top divisions. In his case it's a matter of how important he's made to feel by the owners and how much he trusts them to stay within their ownership.

Joao Pedro & Cucho haven't really done a great deal to demand a move unless it's written into their contracts, which I'd highly doubt. Again it comes down to trust in the owners but they do seem to treat the players well if they see you as a valuable asset.

And as I said initially though (and now Smudger has echoed) a season in the Championship could see both their worth and repute increase a great deal.

The hierarchy and the new manager need to make sure we start developing youngsters. Be it from the Academy or brought in. Because so far we have singularly done an appalling job at getting them integrated into the first team. We seem to jusy buy with a view to sell. That is all well and good but it would be nice if they also added to the playing strength of Watford FC in the process. We also have done a really poor job with players like Penaranda who has obvious ability along with Dahlberg. Shuffling them about and playing reserve level football is not allowing them to feel valued or get developed. As opposed to when they were brought in and no doubt told they would be central to the future of the club going forward.

Sarr's agent will also be crucial. I don't think he will be best pleased but Sarr does not look like the sort who would kick up a fuss certainly if we are to stay one season in the Chump. Friends of his in the Senegalese national side on the other hand whispering might affect him. Ideally we need to keep him. Him and Pedro and Puss should form a pacy attacking trident with Welbeck. Sarr also needs to learn that holding the ball up and waiting at times is invaluable and he can be a great option as a striker too playing off a last defender with his pace and technique and calmness in front of goal.

No disagreements from me with any of that Smudger other than a huge question mark over the attitude of Penaranda. His lack of performance for the U23s in the few games he featured which I saw before lockdown was shocking. Who knows though. Play him regularly with a coach he can trust and something may ignite in him.

On that note - and I realise it's the wrong thread and also extremely unlikely to happen - but how about Mullins & Stack being given the coach & assistant coach jobs. They've worked with the youngsters for a while now, will know them inside out and hopefully be respected by them. I doubt that'll happen though. I see the club throwing everything at getting straight back up at the first attempt and it'll set any hopes of players coming through from the academy back even further.

Pretty sure I read on The Athletic this week that the players want them to get the job permanently. As you said though, I reckon that would be unlikely.

To stay on topic, I'm stunned JP hasn't started over RP over the past couple of games, or had more than the 20 paltry minutes he's been given so far. Perhaps one of the blessings of going down will be Quina, JP + Wilmot getting some serious minutes inext season.

I'll be honest, when I've seen him for the U23s he rarely got the ball and just as rarely went past his defender. His brief appearance today was as good as I've seen him perform!

Sarr looked particularly inept in his first few games - his debut against Coventry(?) was awful with little control over the ball and zero understanding of what was expected from him - so I'll only presume it's a reflection of young men moving to another country and not having a clue how to handle the situation to start with.

Do you think Quina is staying? When Cleverley came on instead of him it made me think he was just making up the numbers on the bench. The same with Gray. We needed goals and rightly or wrongly Gray stayed benched despite Deeney running on one leg. Again, I can only think he's (Gray) played his last for the club. It just seemed telling neither player made it onto the pitch today.

I think as fans many are too harsh on players coming from abroad especially when they are so young. It's not easy to uproot yourself and adapt to another culture, climate and having few people you know. And in his mind Pedro probably cannot be that bothered with playing for the u23. The lad has already played for one of the biggest clubs in Brazil so thinks he has little to prove. Given what I've seen of him the ability is there. Plenty of it but still plenty to work on. I am sure he will do that in the first team environment in which he will now be in.

Quina is raw. Yes he was a naughty boy but we need to get rid of Gray who led him astray. As long as he realized afterwards what he did was not what was expected of a professional then he needs integrating into the first team. He's fearless, decent technically if a bit wild and woolly and can score goals from midfield and get in and around the box. Feisty too. Also plenty to learn but we have hardly given him a chance after Gracia blooded him for a short stint and he looked at ease.

    Again I agree.

I'm not questioning his ability and certainly not his attitude. When he played for the U23s he was giving it 100% every time and if we were chasing the game he never hid. Like all the players playing at St. Albans though he struggled carrying the ball because the pitch is a mess. Bare patches and as bobbly as anything.

The language barrier certainly affected Sarr when he first played and the same happened with JP. Cameron Green playing at left-back had a few short phrases or words to communicate with him but he (JP) was clearly frustrated in not being able to communicate properly and I'm sure it affected his play.

He'll be fine if he stays but it's just a question of whether he wants to stay or if a club higher up will offer us a quick profit and snatch him away.

Which begs the question why on earth Cleverley came on instead of him.

We've a good number of young players in the main squad who could be the staple of the side next season if given a chance. A lot rests on who is head coach and if he's, ahem, allowed to play them.
