    But Udi are already safe.

Do you mean an absolutely massive centre forward for them this weekend?

Manchester United will rival Liverpool for the signature of Joao Pedro, 17 [Lance]

Though his signing will not come cheap as Watford have agreed to sign him in 2020, having already paid €2.5m and set to pay another €7.5m when he joins. [1/2] #MUFC #LFC #WatfordFC

Massive fan of this new development. A while back, you'd get a decent couple of seasons out of any young prospect, then it changed as the big clubs would pay ridiculous fees to get them after just one good season, now they can just sign them before they've even got to your club. They don't even need any scouts anymore!

    Love modern football.

It seems that Watford's insistence over Fluminense playing Pedro in the first team could have backfired.

These news outlets don’t have all the details of the deal and neither do we.

Even if this is true, for another club to step in, you would be looking at a minimum of £50mil for it to even be slightly worth every clubs time.

It's a pity Boris did not use his influence to help that woman in jail in Iran. Instead he made matters worse. Disgraceful that he was not sacked on the spot. He is a dangerous buffoon who could be leading us all to disaster in a few weeks.

Not sure what Boris can do really. The EU will offer him nothing, he's unlikely to do a deal with labour and if he goes with the minority in the country who want a no deal brexit he would be likely to lose a vote if no confidence. He could go for an election to try and change the numbers in parliament. Its risky though. Personally, I'd like to see him disappear up his own A hole

    Hmm, amusing.

There were reports a few days ago (before the Fluminese vs Atletico game) that Utd had supposedly begun talks with Flu over the possibility of signing their other Pedro (the 21 year old striker just coming back from injury) for £25mil:

  20. Burnsy

    Burnsy First Team

    Why?

We have paid €2.5 plus potentially another €7.5m.

If it’s true, another club can come along and bid whatever they want so long as we are paid the release amount. Which is supposedly €20m - so you’d think the buying club has to factor that cost in. So €30m roughly.

It all comes down to the breakdown of the deal and none of us know that - I can’t see Gino paying money now without some form of guarantee - but it is not cut and dried signing players younger than 18 from South America.

It’s doubtful anything will happen. But to say a club will be spending a minimum of £50m to gazump us is way off. The danger in this deal, one would suspect, is his agent. And big clubs getting in his ear. The money João Pedro wants to at least hear out a bigger club, I think we may be done for. Unless it’s after his 18th birthday.

The only reason I can slightly believe the story is that both Liverpool clubs are a disgrace when it comes to tapping up. See Van Dijk and Marco Silva. They know what they're doing, admit they're doing it and still get the person they want. Nasty clubs.

For it to be worth it then it would have to be way more than that.

It’s a €/£20mil penalty. I read that being just the penalty for break clause. That doesn’t include the money we’ve already paid up front, plus the money we have supposedly paid to play him. Plus the loss that we could claim for loss of income via shirt sales, publicity in South America and potential sponsorship deals.

That penalty would have to be paid outright to watford with immediate effect and not through installments. So the bidding club would have to front at least £30mil straight away so the penalty could be paid to us, and for it to be worthwhile for Fluminense, then further installments after that for Fluminense to get the deal they really want. On top of that I’m going out on a limb and saying for sure there would be other financial requirements that Fluminense would owe us.

Much better for them to let the deal go through and when we sell him on to a top club, they can receive their 10-15% sell on clause that supposedly is in the deal.

Gino isn’t stupid, there’s no way he would make a deal for a player that has a break clause of only €/£20mil when he has the potential to be a £75mil+ player in the next few years.

I fully believe that the reports are only half accurate, the details that matter, would be kept private. I would hazard a guess that they go majorly in our favour, especially as Fluminense are struggling financially.

So a pathetic offer of only €30mil wouldn’t be enough, not a chance. Would easily have to be £50mil for it to be worth Fluminense agreeing to it.

Also Pedro has signed a pre contract with us that comes into play as soon as he turns 18 in September. That contract is still a legally binding contract that would have to be worked through as well, regardless of him being under 18 right now.

I just don’t see it being as simple as the media are saying it is. Liverpool/Man Utd etc only need to step in and offer x amount and it’s done. There will be so much more to it that we don’t know about

Bottom line is I just don’t see another club offering £50mil for potential. They would much rather us develop them, prove them and then make an offer.

As I said in my previous post, lots of guessing going on, including my own, so let’s just agree to disagree on the potential fee another club would have to pay.

10m transfer fee paid or to be paid. 20m penalty. Its not 30m for it to be worthwhile to fluminese, its 30,000,001+. If it were me in flumineses shoes, I'd consider it at 31m cash because you'd require full payment to pay off the penalty and you'd have 11m income rather than 10m, so why wouldnt you? Watford could offer another 1m+ to tie it up/make it complicated but we wont....

Because if we get 20m and he never plays here its a good deal. Richarlison had one season and we made roughly 25m profit. Probably 1-3m wages. JP would give us the same sort of profit immediately and we could use the money now not Jan.

BBC gossip page links a Portuguese article which says Liverpool are looking to sign him because of a "contract loophole". Not sure if that implies he can just rip up the contract he signed with us as its not legally binding or whether they have to pay a penalty to get him.

While I see where you are coming from, there’s an awful lot of guessing going on on your part...

Joao Pedro won’t have signed any contract. He’s not allowed to until he’s 18 and we’d be hung out to dry by FIFA. The deal we have will be with Fluminense. Regardless of what we have paid already, as much as I’m sure that was all done with correct and relevant paperwork so we could go after Fluminense if they decided to sell elsewhere, the new buying club aren’t liable for that. We would have to pursue Fluminense separately.

The report states that we simply have a promise of contract deal - nothing more. Now I’m sure that may have the players agents signature on it, or his parents. But I doubt it has his.

Quite simply, no other buying club has to come up with anything other than £17.6m for us (as Fluminense can’t afford it) and whatever they want to pay on top. We would have to pursue Fluminense for any other losses already paid. They may wish to drag us through the courts and make it difficult. And they player may simply decide he wants a move to the other club. We can do nothing about it until he turns 18 and signs the contract laid out to join us.

You say Gino isn’t stupid to accept a break clause of £17.6m when the player may be worth £75m in the future. Why? He’d be getting £17.6m for doing nothing and João Pedro could be another Brazilian wonderkid who burns out

and doesn’t make it. That’s not stupid, it’s sensible. Bloody good business actually.

What I do agree on is that we seem to have a decent relationship with the selling club. And I doubt they would want to sour that. I expect they would honour the deal - the two things to temper that expectation would be the players head being turned elsewhere before he signs at 18, or another club making it financially viable to sour the deal.

But if Liverpool or anyone else wants him, £50m is way off. It’s £17.6m plus whatever fee is agreeable to Fluminense on top.

Football and more so the PL has gone mad. Average players on astronomical contracts. Teenagers who have potential but not proven anything being bandied about as demanding this that and the other while certain German clubs are prepared to offer thirty million pounds or more. Absolutely bananas.
