No. We need ability regardless of age.
The CB’s we have all have experience but not enough ability.

By give our own players game time - I assume you mean young players? Wilmot? As if not, I’m not sure I get what you mean. We give our own CB’s game time and they aren’t good enough for the main part.

This lad is very highly rated, has already appeared for the senior Barca side and was given the No.6 shirt. Would be surprised if they let him go unless they buy first.

The latest club to show their interest in Jean-Clair Todibo is English outfit Watford. Their owners travelled to Barcelona to evaluate a transfer or loan deal for the French defender. Bar*a are reluctant, but not opposed to a deal. [sport]

Article going as far as to claim Gino went to Spain to discuss the move. From looking at it a bit more, seems Barca agreeing to let him go would depend on De Ligt choosing them. Plenty of comments from their fans under the above tweet saying they shouldn’t allow the move. One even saying that if Todibo had been at Ajax, it would be him they would be falling over themselves to pay £75m for!

Sounds like exactly the kind of young player we could sign, not play and then loan out to sit on the bench at Udinese and before he realises, he'll be 25, and have played seven senior games at six different clubs.

Watford ask Bar*a to name their price for youngster Jean Clair Todibo

Gino Pozzo and Filipo Giraldi are flying over to Barcelona to discuss a deal for the French defender

Bar*a are listening to various offers from around Europe for Jean Clair Todibo. The last club to register an interest in the young French defender is Watford. A few days ago the owner of the English club, Gino Pozzo, and his director of football, Filipo Giraldi, flew out to the Ciudad Condal in order to meet with Bar*a's sporting department. That conversation was about the plans for Todibo next season.

Watford are open to either loaning or buying the player. Todibo might be tempted by the fact Watford are a team which puts its faith in young players and he could get more regular minutes there than at the Camp Nou next year.

However Bar*a are adament they want Todibo to be part of their preseason plans in order to value his potential. That would rule him out of a move elsewhere until August at the earliest. Valverde would then make a decision on the eve of the league starting as to how much football Todibo would receive there or whether it would be better to send him out on loan for a season.

The transfer remains open. Watford's interest is real and Bar*a have let them know that a deal could be possible further down the line, even a permanent one, for the right price.

It's entirely possible a move could be brought forward should Bar*a secure the signing of Matthijs de Ligt.

I'm sure we'd be more than happy to be able to buy him, but it would be very odd if Barca would sell given they only just signed him in January. I can only imagine that there's a chance if Barca only signed him because they weren't sure if they would get De Ligt, but if they do he'd be surplus to requirements.

Not sure it'd be worth taking him on loan without at least an option to buy, even if he'd probably already be an improvement on what we currently have despite his lack of experience.

I agree. The article seems to carry a lot of in-depth things if it’s making it up which would be odd but certainly not beyond journalistic standards at home or in Europe these days.

If there’s truth in it, I wonder whether Barcelona may still hold an interest in Cucho and this be part of things. If not, then the only way I realistically see a permanent transfer happening would be if Barcelona insert a buy-back clause within the first 2 years or something.

Barca signed him in January as they had an injury crisis at the back. They already had a deal to sign him this summer when his Toulouse contract expired but paid them £1m to take him early to ease the crisis.

In terms of it not being worth taking him only on loan - that would solely depend on us signing other CB’s in my opinion. If we don’t buy any others, I’d take him on loan. We simply can’t go into next season with the same CB’s again. And if we only had him for a year and he impresses, then it further exposes Watford as a club to other young players looking to make a name for themselves.

Interesting in a few articles I’ve read about him this morning that one of the players he was encouraged to base his game on at Toulouse was Étienne Capoue who also started there.

Source has told me Watford are one of a number of clubs interested in Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo (19yrs/Fra U20 international).
Barcelona haven’t decided whether to retain player and loan out to another club or sell now.
    One to watch.

This one makes sense. Todibo could have joined Barca next month on a free but they clearly paid a fee to Toulouse in January. He is an insurance policy effectively and stays only if big plans fall flat. Barca might be rich but like last summer need to raise the cash first. Little old Watford have plenty of euros to spend. Pozzos know this guy has plenty of potential so will want to be in the mix if and when he becomes available. I would like to see this guy AND Wilmot given a chance at some point next season.

I’ve never obviously heard of him but he’s the type of potential signing I get excited about. But I think we should only be seeking to sign him on a permanent deal. I’m conscious this may sound silly and a bit arrogant, nevertheless, I think we have become too good to be loaning in 19 year old players, even from Barca.

He'd a very talented young player. 6'2" and has all the attributes to go a long way in the game.

I've not actually seen him play. Both his appearances for Barca were away, but I know he struggled a little in the game at Celta Vigo.

He's got a lot of pace, but is young so will make mistakes.

For me, this only makes sense if it's a loan with a view to buy or we sign him outright. If we signed him permanently it would be another cracking signing, but on loan he's not the ready yet to be a first team regular every week in the Premier league, IMO.

I'm just a bit surprised that Barca would be ready to sell him so soon, this is why I think they'd only agree to a loan, which I'm not quite so sure about if I'm honest.

Bit iffy on this if we just get him on a season long loan, even if we are in dire need for defenders. A loan with a view to buy, or perhaps a 2 year loan, and I'd be buzzing

Barca love a good sale with a buyback clause though don't they? You'd think this sort of player would be ripe for that. Doesn't look like he'll get the opportunities he needs to develop there. Flog him to us but with an option to bring him back to the Camp Nou if the stars align in future.

He may be one for the future but i struggle to see an inexperienced 18 year old becoming a first team regular for us next season. I'd prefer a battle-hardened experienced European.
