    Well this could be interesting.

Feel like it’s the second time this rumour has floated about so must have a degree of truth.

Any new manager would have the task of blending ageing pros like Pedro, Willian & Giroud with the returning youth of Mount, Abraham, Zouma & the rest.

Maybe they’re struggling to attract a “bigger” name because of this. Plus I genuinely think Lampard wants another year at Derby.

Chelsea fans online are FUMING at the link which is quite funny to see.

Could just as easily be a nothing story and probably will be as soon as Roman sees the outrage from fans online.

    Currently third favourite at 12/1.

Massive loss unless you think the progress made last year to finish 11th and losing cup final was underperforming ?
Would be interesting to see how negotiations with Gino over compensation went !

Whereas none of the teams around us strengthened at all?
I doubt we will finish higher in this period in the prem and doubt we'll win a cup. We will always be outspent by those around us. If last season was disappointing in your eyes, prepare for a lot more disappointment.

So for this coming season what would you see as a successful season ? A year ago we'd have been happy with 11th and a final though it was a disappointing end having been 7th and getting thrashed in the final.
Here and now what do you think an ok performance next season would be ?

Unfortunately that's the arrogance of some fans. 11th in the Premier League and an FA Cup final for a club the size of Watford is miraculous, especially in the modern day with all the super monied clubs around.

I can't remember a time when we were actually ever in the bottom three since promotion. Apart from that fantastic 5 year spell under Graham Taylor, we've always been relegated from the top tier. So before our last promotion our last 3 seasons in the First Division/Premier League have all ended in relegation.

Next season will mark our 5 successive season, and if we stay up then it will equal our longest run in the top flight without being relegated.

If you think about it, we've nearly replicated GT's halcyon era, apart from finishing runners-up and getting into Europe. We've been to one FA Cup final, two semi finals, and are guaranteed at least 5 seasons in the top flight.

I understand that the last month of the season was really disappointing for all of us given a cup win and European football were both in play, but just getting to that point was amazing really.
The 3 leagues below us are littered with clubs who have been in the top flight in the last 25 years, and realistically chances are we won't be in the prem in 10 year's time and will be looking back on this as the second golden era in the club's history.
If fans only judge a season as successful if we win something or qualify for Europe, they are supporting the wrong club as they will be constantly disappointed.
I'm sure the Stoke, Bolton, WBA, Blackburn, Brum, Ipswich, Leeds, Forest, Sheff Wed, etc fans took the prem for granted in the same way before they dropped out.

If I was Javi and was offered the Chelsea job I'd be off. Losing the head coach isnt a big deal with us now really as they are just another cog in the machine. Looking forward to seeing who the next head coach will be, no doubt someone I have never heard of.

To be honest... All managers are only a bad start away from a sacking so Javi isn't invincible. Koeman did a fine job with Everton in his debut season. Next season... started against all the big 6, lost them all, got ditched.

I don't think Javi is capable of managing a top 6 side. He's a mid table manager and that suits us for the time being. Chelsea will go for Lampard or Allegri.

Hope this happens. Then we can sign a top, top manager who will win us the league and all of the cups. Sick of this mid table ********.

Finishing 11th with Watford and getting to an FA Cup final isn't a miracle.

Doing so with our current defence and attack is.

Our team always implodes at the end of the season. I'd like to blame this purely on mentality, but I think it's mostly due to a lack of squad depth (and the distraction of this year's cup run). This year we imploded two months later than the previous season, which again is an improvement.

Next year with Javi, I think we'll finish in the top 10. With a new coach, anywhere from 8th to 20th. I'm not sure Gino is willing to roll the dice for such marginal gains, but he's not irreplacable.

    I don't think I said it was a miracle ?
I expect we only imploded this time due to the cup run, though getting results against Arsenal, Chelsea, WHU and Wolves was never going to be easy.
I don't think we will finish top 10. I think we will spend little in the summer, be bottom 8 in the Autumn.

To keep us in the PL will get harder every year. Last season was the best ever. Life before the PL never existed of course.

Yes, exact match to what we achieved in 1983/4.
Joint second best overall season in the clubs history (if it beats a 9th place finish and no final ?).

Chelsea fans wouldn't like him as it would probably mean Gracia has pipped "Super Frankie Lampard" to the job which won't go down well.

Would the players respect him - Chelsea ones seem to be very good at downing tools when wanting somebody out.

I guess he might see it as ambition and of course a move up the management ladder but reckon Gracia would only last a year whilst Chelsea's transfer ban is sorted out then they'd go for a high profile now.

Make the most of our season in the sun instead of moaning about the supposed shortcomings of the manager or team. Gracia has done a bloody good job here and we should be grateful, not whinging like a gaggle of millenial snowflakes. If Gracia stays, fine - if he goes, good luck to him.

He’s been vocal about eventually wanting to return to Spain though. A year at Chelsea, almost regardless of results, would see him in the frame for decent jobs there. He’s been linked in the conversation for Sevilla etc this summer but not sure of their strength. Chelsea would look good on his CV if he ultimately wants to manage high up in La Liga.

Plus his CV points to a manager who moves around after a fairly short period of time. I’d be gutted if he went. And I don’t ultimately expect him to. But their are certain indicators that he might if the chance arose.

Really? Unless I’ve missed something, Javi just answered some end of season questions about the rumours didn’t he? Even then the answer was pretty benign. He’d like to go back there someday or the like. I personally wouldn’t class that as being vocal.

By way of comparison, I’d say Doucoure has been vocal about wanting to move to a club playing CL football and PSG in particular. He’s been quoted numerous times in a few transfer windows now saying as much, and often outside of the normal press conference type setups.

I just meant ‘vocal’ as in he has said it. Not repeatedly. But it’s in quotes in National and local media and not just a random twitter thread. The literal meaning of ‘vocal’ is that something was said no?

So he has said at some stage he would like to return to Spain and I have suggested a year at a big club like Chelsea would likely improve his stature over there and make that more possible.

I really don’t see where I’ve suggested any different?

IMO, in the not so distant future the PL will only be made up of clubs that have massive backers. That would mean big city clubs only. Smaller clubs will struggle to compete with the big boys unless they had big investors. TV companies will finally get their wish of covering the biggest clubs in the PL in the biggest stadiums.
If this is the way forward we will find it harder and harder to stay up.

Apologies for the over use of big!

Typically being ‘vocal’ is a step beyond simply saying something. Implies being outspoken or direct. Hence why I picked up on it, as I thought it was a curious description of Javi’s comments. But I can see you didn’t mean that so it’s fine.

Grateful? for a bottom half of the table finish and a world record cup final defeat?

He's extracted multiple millions of pounds out of our club. I'd say he's the one that should be grateful.
