Javi Gracia - Valencia Cf

  1. I’ve never seen a player so out of his depth as berghuis on his debut. Was yanked off at half time.

    Ah - potentially they were.

Shame 2 didn't play much and one was injured so often.

Looking back in this thread there was some support for QSF - probably all disappeared by the time he left !

And even that didn’t perk him up?

  4. I think QSF didn't realise just how sloppy our defence was when he joined and felt there was no other option than 3 at the back. The worse we got the more defensive we became.

Given a pre-season and a full season we would have survived comfortably if a little boringly under QSF. But in hindsight the wrong man to try and bail out a sinking ship.

Bought under QSF. Loaned out under Mazzarri and sold under Marco Silva. But sure.

Mazzarri played him in every pre-season friendly even though he didn’t fit the system (in the #10 role of a 5-3-2). Then he went to Feyenoord on loan as he’d already decided he wanted to and joined them permanently the next summer without coming back.
You can’t claim he wasn’t fancied by multiple head coaches when only one (who also played without wingers) ever had him available.

Remember he had a stormer in that game against Villa, thought he'd at least be given a bit of a run in the team given we were safe then, but no

He was available to all 3?! That’s a simple fact so of course I can claim it. Watford didn’t have to loan him out - Mazzarri could have included him had he wanted to. If he didn’t fit the system he played then clearly Mazzarri didn’t fancy him! And Silva had him for a pre-season and agreed to let him go rather than include him.

You’re debating against facts?! All 3 managers had the chance to use him and chose not to. Therefore my original point that he was overlooked by successive managers is more than fair!

Marco Silva had no control over who stayed and who went when he was there.

  10. If Berghuis was the answer he’d be playing for a top club in a top league

I’m arguing the stuff you’re making stuff up and saying is fact. Everything except the bold is not true.

This is embarrassing for you now. Check the dates of his moves. And check the Watford managers at those times.

He’s been overlooked whilst available for selection by 3 managers. That’s a fact - to deny it, you’re basically arguing with a calendar.

Do you not realise how Watford transfers work? Our head coaches don’t have a say. Even if they did, when a player wants to go: they often wouldn’t have a say.

I don’t know why I have to explain this to you. He was part of Watford’s squad for one season, during which we had one head coach. To claim any more than that didn’t rate him shows you don’t understand how the club operates.

I won’t be replying to any further nonsense claims you make on the matter, as reading my previous posts will probably explain why you’re wrong already. Enjoy this afternoon’s game!

You have to explain it because what you’re saying isn’t true and hasn’t been proved as such. That’s why.

Why are you claiming details of the clubs transfer strategy under those ‘regimes’?

So, once your nonsense was easily shown wrong just be using dates, you’ve fallen back in sarcasm?!

My original point was that successive managers have not been keen on him. Everything you’ve said so far refuting that has been personal opinion, not factual at all.

No. I didn’t enjoy the game today at all in response to your final point. Seems a weird thing to say.

To be fair, I posted a link that shows that Marco Silva had no control over transfers which is a very good indicator that it was the same for all the others too.

It is something that needs sorting out. Because it is clear managers do not like having players forced on them. Fatty needs removing in this audit. Limit him to administrative affairs and let the coaches coach. Not to mention how off putting it must be when the job offer comes in to people who are used to managing not just coaching.

Jeez, I know I said I wouldn’t reply but you’ve baited me in. Gaslighting by saying my posts are opinion only!!

I’ll break it down even more:
2015/16 - Berghuis spends the season on the bench under QSF. That’s one head coach who it’s fair to say doesn’t rate him.
2016/17 - QSF leaves, Mazzarri joins. Berghuis is strongly linked with Feyenoord. He plays a couple of friendlies then the move is completed. What are you basing Mazzarri’s disapproval of him on? They were both at the club at the same time? As shown above, head coaches don’t have the power to vetoe transfers. Still on only 1 coach that we know didn’t rate him.
2017/18 - Mazzarri leaves, Silva joins. Berghuis’ transfer is made permanent without even turning up at pre-season. They probably never met given the “calendar”. This is one I find most baffling for you to claim as another coach that didn’t rate him.

I’m not saying he was class, or he was the answer. I’m just confused about what you’re basing your statements off other than when his transfers happened, which is irrelevant to a head coach’s opinion at this club. We know one didn’t rate him. Maybe they all didn’t, but that’s guess work.

Edit: P.s I said enjoy the game before it happened. Not that weird is it to wish someone enjoyment? Don’t be so antagonistic.

I genuinely think we’d still be in the PL if we hadn’t have pulled the trigger when we did.

In the wider scale of the character of our squad, whether that would have been a good thing is another matter...

I think I’d agree. He probably earned the chance to try and turn it around, but the poor preparation during pre-season did him in.

I think he was being undermined by Giraldi, too.

A shame, because I liked Javi a lot.

I don't know, we were ***** the last few months of the previous season, I think a change was due (though we probably should have taken the difficult decision in the summer, think the Pozzos bottled it a bit). ANYONE other than QSF probably would have kept us up, even Pearson (who let's be honest only came along because we were so ****ed that we just assumed he was going to lead us in the Championship-how did that one work out?)
