Cahill is still ahead in the pecking order at Chelsea over Christensen. Christensen was kept over Ake at the time as a better prospect but has been vocal about looking elsewhere for game time as he doesn’t want to be a reserve any longer. He is the exact type of player we should be looking at. I really don’t think Cahill’s wages are within reach for us. And if what Leventhal is saying is true, I don’t think a loan move for Cahill is what the club would be looking for - and that’s the only way we would afford him I bet.
But a loan like that just defers the search for a centre back until the summer. Fine as a stopgap if we had an emergency, where he'd be miles better than Mapps or Britos, but as we don't I think we should use the remainder of the season to bring in a longer term replacement instead and concentrate on bedding them into the side (and possibly the country/league too). Various places seem to have him down for a loan move to Fulham now anyway.
Agree, but we all know that clubs add a few extra million to their players in January. I would hate for us to be “priced out” of the market, which lets be honest, doesn’t take much for Gino, and we miss out. I would rather us tie up Cahill on a loan deal now and use the rest of the window to find that long term CB if the price is right. At least we would have Cathcart, Cahill and Kabasele for the last half of the season at the very worst.
It's funny that we think games are the only 'chance'. There is also every day in training. Maybe he gets rings run around him by Andre Gray which would be a sure sign to me that he wasn't yet ready. I wouldn't need to stick him on the pitch if I saw that.
I'm surprised he hasn't been given "a chance in the first team" and I'm concerned that that may mean he's not impressed Gracia in training and the Mickey Mouse cup games. As an England U20(?) I would have expected to see him pushing for a first team slot when Kaba was out, at the very least on the bench, but he seems to be behind Mapps and even Britos. With our glut of MF players it's difficult to see how/when he will get a chance in the prem at either CH or CDM.

Personally I’m a bigger fan of the ‘Pozzo’ hidden gem signings. However if we were after short term fixes to see out this season and add something that may help us pick up a few extra points then Cahill and Defoe fit that mould.

If it's a defender and Fulham are seriously interested then I'd steer well clear of them - their ability to scout a defender is absolute trash.
