I've heard from seperate sources that James Beattie will be joining on loan. Also Dan Shittu to Celtic for £5M, which would explain not only Gordon Strachen being at the vic, but also Aidy wanting a new centre back.

I DO NOT know how reliable this is, don't shoot the messenger

Shittu for 5M mmmm whilst I wouldn't want to see him leave, that does need thinking about.

    Beattie on loan could work

Beattie on loan could be your saving grace...

Shittu should not be sold for £5,000,000...we're starting to look very good at the back now and Danny should be kept alongside Jay!

Beattie on loan would do very nicely!

Any striker on loan could be our saving grace.

Moving Dan on would not be a wise move for whatever amount of Dosh.

Last season we conceded loads of goals and people moaned we wouldn't go up because our defence was to weak.

This season take out the 7 goals scored against us by Chelsea and Arsenal, we have conceded 13 goal in 14 games. That then gives us a chnace of winning games if we have someone upfront who can score inthe premier.

Break the heart of our defence by selling Dan, whoever comes in as CF and or replaces Dan we will have no chance of staying up

would love to see james beatie!

jay and dan have have a good understanding of each other and are forming a very good defensive partnership. breaking that up and bringing carlisle or mackay would see us relegated for sure

Aidy won't sell our best players for any money at this point of the season if he wants to stay up...

He says we arent going to be a selling club in January at all.. i am sure he means that too... we are looking to strengthen the squad not break it up and destroy what chance we have.
At the moment it is safe to say we have one ot the best defensive lines in the league.. why spoil it.

Why would the club even want to sell our best defender this season?

    Hardly shows ambition really!

perhaps if we got steven pressley on a free, yes, otherwise no as shittu is fast becoming out most valuable player, keeping it tight at the back, compared to malky, who is just too slow for the prem

Celtic are interested in Watford defender Danny Shittu.
The Scottish Sun says Hoops boss Gordon Strachan is considering a January bid for Shittu, who only moved to the Hornets last summer.

Also a couple more things I've found on the net.

AVOIDING CRIME PAYS OFF FOR SHITTU
Watford defender Dan Shittu has revealed how he resisted a life of crime to become a footballer - and made his mother proud.
Shittu was born in Lagos, Nigeria, but grew up in the Bow area of east London, where the temptations to veer off the straight and narrow were frequent and numerous.
But Shittu pursued his ambition of becoming a professional player and now the 26-year-old runs a scheme to try to encourage youngsters in east London to play football instead of being drawn into crime.
And the £1.5million summer signing from QPR insisted he would never forget the debt he owes his mother Camilla, an accountant who had to raise Shittu and his six siblings.
"I grew up in Bow, where nearly all my friends were doing crazy things," Shittu said.
"At the age of 15 I started going to college. While I was at football training or at college, my friends would be off stealing phones.
"I always worked hard, and, when my friends found out that I had become a footballer, they all said they wished they had done the same.
"I am lucky to have my family. I am the second youngest of seven kids, and all my brothers and sisters were doing good things.
"If I had had a brother who stole cars, it would have made me do that.
"I have always wanted to make my mum proud because she gave up so much for the kids. I wanted to repay her and make her happy, not just give her money."
Shittu hopes to be part of the Watford starting XI at Portsmouth as Adrian Boothroyd's team seek their first away win of the season and only their second in the Barclays Premiership.
If Shittu plays, he will be charged with the task of stopping his fellow Nigeria international Kanu, who has scored seven times this season.
Shittu revealed that Kanu, 30, is revered in Nigeria and other African countries, and spoke of his determination to emulate the former Arsenal striker.
He added: "We have been together with Nigeria a few times and it is amazing the way Kanu is idolised in Africa.
"Everywhere you go, he is mobbed. Kanu is like a God in Nigeria and other countries in Africa.
"I look at him and think that I want to be in that position one day. He is a role model for so many people, and he is also a very nice person off the pitch.
"I have spoken to him a few times, as I have to (Newcastle's) Obafemi Martins, but, because we are spread out all over the country, we do not have time to visit one another.
"But I will not talk to Kanu before the game. At the moment, he is an enemy, and it is not about being friendly."
Boothroyd could make changes to his starting line-up for the clash at Fratton Park after watching his team thumped 4-0 at champions Chelsea last weekend.
That result left Watford 19th in the Premiership, but Shittu insisted: "We are not even thinking about relegation.
"There are only two games - against Arsenal and Chelsea - in which we were beaten by more than two goals.
"We believe that, if things go right, we can get good results."

This came off a QPR website on the 19th November when he was interviewed by Tom Collomosse, PA Sports.

Does seem odd that Everton would let us have Beattie... not too sure about that one I am afraid.

its time for a few people in the nicest way to start getting real.

We are bottom of the league.

    Favourites to go down.

Get slated week in week out in every aspect of the media.

We are known to be poor payers.

We will really struggle to attract quality in January FACT. We may get lucky with a couple of loans from other prem teams, but no proven / prem regular is going to want a permanent move here.

  23. brianbb

    brianbb First Year Pro

I said in a previous thread that the only way I think we will attract anyone decent is if we offer a contract similar to the one Kanu had at West Brom - well paid while he kept them in the Prem, but allowed to bugger off when they went down.

Shittu for 5 mill? ONLY take it if all the money goes into the transfer kitty! 5 Mill + our predicted 3/4 million could equal a nice sum of money, yet again, Danny can't be beaten in the air.....

    Tough choice IMO!

And beattie, not to sure about him but to be honest we can't be fussy! at least he knows where the back of the net is....

Still think we need a central midfielder to!

  25. Big Dave Airey

Beattie wants to play for England, he won't get that playing for the team bottom of the League.

And his wage demand will be astronomical!!

The thing is - we create enough chances so potentially he could bang in quite a few. And to score many at a bottom club will do his career some good - especially as he'll be playing every week. And if he has a clause that he can fark off if we go down, well - it'll do him no harm.

Which is why a loan agreement with Everton would be preferable to us - loan with the option to buy should we stay up.

I believe that is true about the older permanent signings and I’d also like to add that we may be more appealing once the stadium and pitch is sorted. All those elements are important to players. However I think Aidy is our main selling point, he is well respected for what he achieved last season, and youngsters will be interested in learning from him.

Also with regards to James Beattie my mate who supports Everton has said for ages Beattie is unpopular at Goodison and probably on his way out. No reason why we couldn’t get him on loan, especially if they did sign Dave Nugent. He claims Beattie is lazy, but I he’d do well for us and only appears lazy because he is often isolated upfront. He’d never sign as a permenent signing though because I think they’d want to re-coup the £6 mil they paid. Unlikely loan signing but would be very good if it happened

I wouldnt want Beattie... over rated lady boy who's IMO championship level at best and not even sunday league on a bad day!

I dont know about that other chap.... is here premiership quality? Will he keep us up?
No is the simple answer, so we should move on and find players that are and will!
