Surely no chance of this happening. Hasn't been PL standard in years and the last thing we need is more CMs.

  7. I imagine he's just trying to get some fitness and publicity prior to finding a club. If it is true that some Serie A clubs are interested, training with a Pozzo team in Austria shouldn't do him any harm.

Knowing plenty of Everton fans, they used to adore Rodwell and have high high hopes for the fella, but, alas, that was a frenzy years ago, if we were to sign him it looks like it'd be a massive gamble.

My prediction is, he's gonna sign for Wycombe.

Interesting one , used to to be a hot prospect , but lost his way mentally , if he is on a free ,and we have a good team shrink ,could prove useful squad member ,didn't he start off as a centre back before being turned into a midfielder?

Has been linked to a number of teams lately, the most recent I'd seen was AEK Athens at the beginning of the week where he was on the verge of signing.

    Before that... Bolton Wanderers.

As he left Sunderland under a bit of a cloud after refusing to terminate his hefty contract to, a; let him find a club, and b; help Sunderland balance their books, I don't think he's the sort of person who has team ethos at heart.
He also has a pretty shocking injury record.

Think we was earning more at Sunderland than most of our players do!

Made the fatal move from 1st teamer at Everton to bench warmer at Man City.

We seem to have a whole team of midfielders now!

No thanks. Happy to sit in the reserves for 2 years picking up his wage and made little effort to compromise to reignite his career.

I hope Watford chat to ACAS for advice before offering him any form of contract.
The guy appears to be toxic.

Interesting he sees himself as a ball playing centreback. We could use one of them.

Could see pozzos being interested. Free, English, good age, point to prove. If he just played a few times for us in premier league he'd be an asset they could sell for several million.

  29. I don't get the hatred.

Paying stupid money for footballers, living beyond their means, running up vast debts, and sinking through the divisions is Sunderland's boards fault no one else's. Why should a player be expected to help bail them out by cancelling a contract if there is nowhere else to go?

Don't need him in midfield. But if he can make a switch to CB that might be interesting for us to look at.

Should never have gone to Man City. Like others, Scott Sinclair, either chased the quick buck, or their agents did. He very quickly found themselves behind the incoming wealth of international superstars and not even a bench warmer.

I'm not sure why Sunderland never loaned him out and and paid half his wages. It would have saved them a hell of a lot more than paying him to sit in the stand. Even if they sold him for free at the start of last year, they would have saved themselves £4m a year. He would found a club that would have paid him a hefty signing on fee. For me it's pretty poor business by Sunderland not to have a relegation cause in his contract and get themselves into this mess.

He clearly had the ability as a youngster, if he still has that and still has the desire, then on a free it wouldn't be a bad signing

No one would have been prepared to pay half those wages for a guy who had basically played no football for ages. They couldn't have sold him on a free for the same reason. Not sure why Sunderland didn't just accept he was going nowhere and just play him. I guess they tried to force him out by starving him of football. Didn't work !!

As it's a trial and he's presumably not being paid for it there's no harm in looking. The Daily Mail says he has already impressed Gracia though and we're talking terms with him.

Agreed. And if he can recover his pre Man C form it could turn out to be a really good deal.

It appears the Pozzos have a new transfer model: signing players with successful track records... of being relegated.
