Here's a video of Gray's goals for Burnley in 2016-17. Apart from the penalties, I think they all come from through balls into his path or knockdowns from a strike partner. There is no evidence of any superior ball control or creation of his own chances to what we have seen for Watford.

Well West Ham and Everton fans certainly hated Allardyce, Everton’s owner hated him enough to give him two year deal worth £6m, in the knowledge that he would be sacking him come what may after year one. Imagine paying somebody £3m just to not manage you anymore.

Im struggling to see the logic that Allardyce would get a tune out of players like Sarr, Pedro and Capoue for any longer than Pearson managed.

The time for Allardyce was last year if we were serious about staying up, now we’ve been relegated I couldn’t think of a worse appointment, it would be more short termism. If he got us up he’d never be kept on and it would only be a matter of time before the players, the owners and the fans were sick of the sight of him.

To be clear, I have no interest in seeing Allardyce manage Watford. My point was just that modern football has become insistent on playing a style of football that involves a lot of possession and passing regardless of playing to players strengths.

I really don’t agree. I see what you’re getting at. But there’s an exciting way to play patiently - and it involves being slick and quick in the final third. Our tactics don’t include that part.

Ok, I do agree with all of that. I guess the problem is when we played 4-4-2 with Iggy and Troy, it was such a throw back that it worked for a while because nobody knew how to play against it anymore. Once they sussed it out it became completely ineffective, so there is an element of needing to adapt to whatever the modern tactics are.

True and it would help by pushing the defence higher so we condense the play in the opposition's half. It's so slow and predictable and I can't say if its Ivic or our players are incapable of taking in instructions.

Not that I'm saying it's the actual answer, but a counterpoint to the idea that Allardyce wouldn't be capable of improving players/getting them playing in an effective, functional way is Jan Kirchhoff.

Remember that Sunderland team that he not only saved from relegation but actually got playing some fairly decent football and results? One of its key tenets and standout players was Bayern Munich II and Schalke cast-off Kirchhoff, at the base of midfield, breaking up play and progressing it forward. Where is he now, after that triumphant, freewheeling spell in the Premier League via the North-East of England? KFC Uerdingen 05 in the third division of German football.

'Perhaps he's just over the hill, winding down as any geriatric is wont to do' I hear you transmit via telepathy - well, NO. He just turned 30 last month. So it's not that. It's BFS' genius man-management motivation mountain. Guaranteed to elevate wastrels and shysters at least two rungs up the relative footballing pyramid.

We played a wonderful style of football under Joka and Zola. It was a blend of styles - some great passing, some direct, and ultimately it was exciting to watch. And it worked. That goal against Huddersfield at home is one of the best goals I've seen live. I'm all for passing and not just knocking it long, but passing for passing sake is what I find boring.

Tika-taka or whatever its called is brilliant - if you've got players up front who thrive off destroying defences and a creative midfielder who can get the ball to them efficiently and cleverly...we have a blend of that with Capoue, Quina, Sarr and JP...but the motivation to do so isn't there. Its beyond evident watching them that they aren't tasked with doing that...or they just aren't bothered due to the nature of the manager.

But he's so slow and lacking in agility that even when he does try and move in to space, the defenders can easily track him and by the time he arrives there isn't any space left anyway.

Oh for the days of Walter Mazzarri, when the terrible football came with the pedigree of a former head coach of Inter, Napoli and Sampdoria. Now we have to hope this attritional tripe is based on some of plan and experience that will deliver a top two finish. Then we can bin this joker

Mazzarri had the worst injury list in the clubs history yet kept us up effortlessly.

This ***** has the best squad the chumpionship has ever seen and serves up hot garbage match after match.

    How dare you compare them.

I've backed him but now I think it's clear he's not the guy who will get us promoted. Far too cautious throughout. We do not commit enough players forward. We are far too methodical and slow in the build up. It's just not working.

I feared that our away form would creep into the home performances and today showed just that. That was worse than Wednesday.

We've won only 3 of the last 10 games. Only 1 from the last 5. Not scored in 3 of the last 4 games. Only one shot on target for the second game running. Just not good enough.

If he's not the guy to get us promoted, then what's the point in retaining his services. Excuses are running out now.

It's nearly all on the players.
Ivic will ultimately get the blame but we have too many players going through the motions.
He made positive changes but crap forward play(Deeney,Perica and Murray won't get 10 open play goals between them this season.)
Pozzo and his clueless chums have royally fuc*** up but others will pay the price.

Can you imagine what an amazing squad we would have if we had got our original head coach appointment correct and invested all the severance money laid out on players instead

Giraldi has helped to provide Ivic with a squad more than capable of automatic promotion. Think some need to get over their hatred of him tbh.

Ivic has had a third of the season and I still can't see what style he is trying to implement, other than extremely negative? Is it the players deciding they don't like a manager again, and getting him sacked? Or is Ivic just a bit crap? Bit of both, perhaps.
