A couple of fun quiz questions re Sarr.

1)Perhaps unsurprisingly, according to Transfermarkt, he is the player with the single largest prior transfer fee (played either by their current club or a previous club) to be playing in the Championship this season. Who is second (according to Transfermarkt)?

    2) As far as I can tell, there are only two players in Championship history who had a larger single prior transfer fee than Sarr. Can you name them?

A goal from a cross? Derby didn't have a shot on target against us, yet after the own goal, they almost equalised against us directly from a corner. As for 'big chance', that's very arbitrary, but clearly a thunderbolt from outside the area isn't a 'big chance' that you'd expect a striker to take 9 times out of 10

And to be quite honest, assist stats are useless really, Sarr is on about 4 for the season by some metrics, yet so often we simply don't score without his contributions. Also, for a winger, he might be really good, but if the striker is useless, he ain't gonna get many assists

What a talent. We already knew that. Has it in him to be in the top echelon of world players. Pace, power and a lethal finish. Great crosser of the ball and able to pull a trick when needed. His desire and his genuine love of just playing are endearing. And lets not forget his defensive work. Prepared to work back, tackle and cover down the flank. In full flight he is a thoroughbred and a joy to watch for anyone who enjoys football.

Sarr stood out a mile tonight. Not only his goals but I wouldn't be surprised if we won the ball in midfield more than any other player.

An outstanding performance, and one that will push up his value, and (sadly) increase the likelihood of him leaving us in 4 months time..

And to think that here were some on here who think he is our worst signing ever.

Agreed, he is such a talent.

I think my favourite thing about him though is his attitude.

By all accounts, he is a quiet and young family man who isn't interested in flaunting his wealth. He just seems like a damn decent bloke who works like a Trojan.

He also didn't allow his head to get turned last summer over the interest from Palace and United. Instead, he respected that he was under contract and works his socks off for this team.

With Rennes qualifying for Europe at the end of last season and us getting relegated, we would have forgiven Sarr for a lapse in his performances but there wasn't even that.

He's an example to all professionals, both in the way that he plays on the pitch and the way that he conducts his life off of it.

Gutted that he (albeit correctly offside) didn't get the hattrick he deserved.

Unless we choose to cash in and sell him I reckon he will be happy to stay with us next season providing we reach PL and possibly even if we somehow don't manage to win promotion, in fact he has said as much.

Once/If we go up, his value rockets and we’re in a better position to keep him. Bit like doucs who if we never went down would of been out of Everton’s reach. So if he goes it’s to an elite club for a hefty fee.

This is absolute fantasy of the most delirious order - even you surely can't be entertaining this prospect for a second, can you?
  12. What a player he is. Make the most of him while we can. Will leave a huge hole when he leaves.

I really hope he stays if we go up, he seems to enjoy being here. Unfortunately I think finances will dictate that.

If a Watford side who badly needed cash after relegation were able to keep hold of him, I dare say we'd be in a strong position to keep him if we do the business and seal promotion from here

I think that depends largely on how much we bet financially on an immediate return behind the scenes, you know? It could be that it makes it possible, if no big club comes in with quite enough money (though just personally, this seems marginally less likely than it happening) but any sale could also have already been factored in/we might have accounted for it already. That being said, as you say, securing another minimum cash injection and several further years of parachutes at an absolute minimum would undoubtedly relieve pressure.

It's a bit counter-intuitive but I reckon it was easier to hold onto him last summer than it will be this. Last summer it was all about how little we could get away with having to sell while gambling on going back up. This summer the impact of relegation is realised whether we go up or not. And either way there's a hole to fill. The PL money tap being switched on again will probably do the heavy lifting but if the price is right he'll be gone.

Just remembered too that next season is the African Cup of Nations in the winter, as much as that would be a blow for us, would anyone risk spending big money on someone who could be gone for a big chunk of the season?

It will ultimately come down to whether someone meets our asking price. Sarr doesn’t come across as someone who will force a move. He is the best player in the championship, and I would have thought his asking price has gone up again this season, and must be 50m+. If he does go then it needs to be early in the window as we will need to reinvest all of that money on a new forward line.

It also depends on him. He's playing with a smile now and that's only a good thing for him and us. One thing is that he definitely won't make a sideways move say Palace for instance but if Liverpool say come in with the right offer I reckon he'd jump at the chance to play alongside Mane.

I think if we get promotion he will stay with us, that is unless we want to sell him of course.

I think if we want to sell him we are in more serious debt than another year with EPL money could cover and effectively wave the white flag like Norwich did last season.

Obviously if a silly offer came in that we would be unwise to refuse then it's a different matter.

I don't think for one second Liverpool would spend £50m on one player who to be honest probably isn't quite up to their level (to be getting into the first team anyway), aside from one or two notable examples they're not huge spenders
  27. ****. Please stop posting on this thread. Every time a new post appears I assume he’s injured in training, banned for covid breach, been dropped by Deeney etc.
