Is Marco Silva all that?

To be fair, the beginning of last season wasn't too shabby either. If I remember correctly we lost to Arsenal and Chelsea at home in games we looked quite strong in (we were beating Chelsea until the 80th odd minute - bit like this season)

Looking it up, we got 15 points from 10 games... Not bad at all considering we're on the same right now.... Wait...Oh no.... Time to panic... sIlVa OuT!!!

I recall we’d had a tough start but managed to get some points in the bag and we beat Manchester before losing to Burnley. Downhill from then. Deeney was fat, Janmaat and Cathcart and most of the other centre backs were injured whereas Pereyra actually wasn’t. I’ve read that Amrabat was playing like Ronaldo and Capoue was banging them in.

When we had a full or nearly full strength team we looked very good under mazzarri. Sadly it was a small window of opportunity. Much much better than anything under QSF though. The second half of the QSF season was the worst in living memory.

Further to this, noticed Ostersunds lined up like this against Athletic Bilbao last night and were solid (against Bilbaos 16 corners!) - checked their stats for the season and conceded just one goal from 127 corners for the season just gone (their season has only just finished). Please Silva, put another line of players in against Everton.

    Dear Mr Silva

This is how you defend corners:

    Front post
    Back post
    Keep opposition player off keeper
Big guys mark opposition big guys
A player or two on the edge of the box to close down opposition
Someone up top to keep two players out of our box and have an option when breaking away

    Regards

Well I was there all throughout the 90s and as bad as it got at times then, the second half of QSF season was the only time I've ever seriously contemplated giving up watching us

Fair enough. I spent 36 years away north of the border when I really wasn't keeping up properly at all. Anyway, good to be on speaking terms again. I was a bit o.t.t. last night. Apologies for that.

Did Silva refuse to do his press conference this week?

Nothing on the fischal site, nothing on Sky. Thought it might have been today since we play on Sunday, but Sky don’t have him listed.

    Comparing managers isn't realistic.
Arguable QSF had the weakest squad as it was the first season in the Premiership.
Walter was in charge in season 2 when we should've done better in theory.
Silva is in season 3 so we have had 2 extra years of recruitment over season 1.

QSF's 13th place finish and FA Cup semi final first season shouldn't be underestimated either.

Keeping us up was a huge achievement by QSF and I feel no animosity towards him at all.

BUT that second half of the season was so bad to watch I felt physical pain at the match.

Silva is joke. I’m not going to get suckered into all the hype that surrounds him. He doesn’t have a Scooby how to set a team up to defend properly. In my opinion, he’s a modern day Kevin Keegan. His philosophy is to attack and see how things pan out. Eleven games in, Ive seen enough to think the man is a charlatan. Some on here are claiming we’ve been unlucky in our last three games, that’s b0110ck5, we ****ed up yesterday and at Chelsea and Stoke simply sussed us out.
If Silva goes onto bigger and better things, I’ll eat my ******* hat

Rome wasn't built in a day - Silva has done a great job so far : We pass the ball much better than we did last season, we create more opportunities and we are good to watch: Teams set up now to stop us - thats a step forward, teams don't want to play against us - they have real respect for us.

Do we have issues ? Yes, defensively we are pretty poor - but Silva knew this and wanted defenders - He wanted a Central Defender, a left back and a Goalkeeper ..... Pozzo and Duxbury et al. didnt secure the players he wanted in that department - He ended up with 3 deadline day panic fillers who he clearly doesn't rate - Wague wasnt rated at Leicester either - Silva has had one transfer window and the change in our team is pretty bloody remarkable from last season.

We will be inconsistent, we will have dips in form especially when the squad is depleted without Pereyra, Prodil, Chalobah - They are 3 KEY starting players - Our first 11 when fully fit is probably 8th - 10th best in the league ... the squad is the issue for us and everyone else from 7th and below and it injuries that derail.

So in January Mr Pozzo and Mr Duxbury I would strongly suggest you spend £10 - £15m on a proper central defender, maybe £7 - £8m on a left back and £10m on a goalkeeper - to back up Gomes this season with a view to No.1. next.... and while I am at it - Sell Deeney (£15m)- Not good enough for where we want to be - seems to concerned with building brand Deeney on the TV and radio (brilliant servant, club legend but time to go) and re-invest in another striker

  26. He's still got a ways to go to prove himself a top manager

The football is vastly more entertaining, but so is the frustration at our keystone cops defence

I think Silva was a superb appointment. The quality of football has vastly improved. We’ve hit the buffers recently and there are still concerns over certain areas of the side.

The main issue is the defence. Now I don’t believe this is a particular strength of Silva, but our problem is an inherent one. It has stretched over three seasons and three coaches. The problem lies more with the playing staff.

I hope this coming transfer window will go a long way to sorting this out.

Once I his problem is resolved we’ll be flying. But until this time, disappointments like last night will occur regularly.

Sorry, getting my relegations mixed up. The Kirby season was the worst ever, I think, the only year I watched every game. I’d forgotten we went down under Keen, I actually enjoyed the football under his leadership the following year, although we couldn’t translate excellent Home displays into wins away and finished eighth, having been bottom briefly three games in. We all know what came next...

Silence as expected, his lack of game-time at Leicester had absolutely nothing to do with the season-ending injury he picked up on his debut...
