I didn't hear it but Dean Ashton claimed on Talksport this morning we had no chance...

West Brom won their opening two last year!

Opening weekends aren’t always a reliable guide but what conclusions are you taking so far?

I’d say Huddersfield and Cardiff will face a season of struggle. Brighton are well managed but could have second season syndrome as they’re hardly prolific scorers. Personally I think Fulham will get things together and be decent but they’ve had a bad start. We get our first look at Southampton tomorrow but their fans don’t sound too confident under Hughes.

at least we didn't have to wait long for our first win, and got three points in our first game unlike:-
    Newcastle
    Cardiff
    Fulham
    Huddersfield
    Brighton
    wolves
    Everton
and at least another three teams tomorrow
    Happy days

I think we have enough about us to stay up.

If we keep players fit, especially central defence.

We could do with another striker on loan still before August 31st. Then I'd be a lot more confident.

After today's debacle I think the answer to the question posed in the thread title is yes. Definitely yes. Plus fook knows what Gino was thinking when he approved stripes for this year's kit. And blue and white...where did he come up with those colours from??

Only injuries can send us down. We oozed class today.

I'm more worried that we have too many ace players now. Where does chalobah and dooloofayoo fit in this team?

I'd go further. If we carry on at this rate we will win the league by a mile.
WBA won their first two games so we are as good as down.

When West Brom played Burnley in their second game they were not great West Brom got outplayed and give Burnley a bit of a sucker punch. My point is their win was somewhat lucky whilst we actually looked convincing.

Whatever the total required, the quicker we get to 36 points the better IMHO. Hopefully before the end of March 2019.

Here is some statistical analysis of our chances of going down

    https://statsbomb.com/2018/08/its-watfords-world-now/

This is the basis of the argument:
"There are currently seven teams with two points or fewer. West Ham have none. Burnley, Huddersfield, Newcastle and Southampton all have one, and Wolves and Cardiff have two. If we start from the premise that Watford might magically turn into a 30 point pace team overnight then West Ham would need 37 points to catch them. That’s a 40 point pace. The group of teams with one point would have to play at a 39 point pace and Cardiff and Wolves would need to play at a 38 point pace. It’s certainly conceivable some of these teams could do that. But, in order for Watford to get relegated a full five out of seven of them would. That’s…well it’s a long shot."

Still won't feel safe until it's January and we've maintained our 100% record

    57 points should be enough.

Although it’s only 3 wins, for teams outside the top 6 stringing 3 wins together is actually incredibly hard and incredibly rare.

Do you remember last season when we just kept losing week after week under Silva but remained 10th for ages, we had a 10 point buffer over the relegation zone and it took an absolute age to get to about 4 points before the owners took action.

If you think about all the teams from about 10th down, due to being crap and also playing each other it will take ages for all of them to get above 9 points. Not that I think we will, but we could probably lose 5+ games on the bounce now and still be comfortably mid table.
