Or contract talks with one/both our existing CM’s with a year left aren’t going well and we are looking at cashing in....

I suspect they both want to stay - but I’m also sure they didn’t see themselves staying at Watford for the best years of their career and they may well know they can get a better deal elsewhere. Chalobah as we know wasn’t far away from a departure in January - I know he’s kicked on since then with us but I imagine there’s interest in him now because of that.

That is also very possible. Considering the club would have probably been keen to get them to sign quickly after securing promotion, the fact that it's already been a few weeks without any news isn't a good sign.

In fact probably the only way in which this signing on current viewing makes sense to me would be if he's been brought in quickly as an insurance policy as we're concerned we may lose at least one of them. Maybe we'll still want to sign a proper upgrade at CM later on, but we want to make sure that either way we're not left completely without a midfield and in a panic towards the end of the window.

The interview Hughes gave the other week which was published on the club website would make that a little odd, but I would certainly not put it past the club.

    Confirmed by Leventhal.

Understand Nantes midfielder Imran Louza set to join & deal to be completed now Ligue 1 POs over. Elsewhere, Louza’s teammate striker Randal Kolo Muani focused on options elsewhere - in France (Lille, Lyon) but E Frankfurt favourites

Could be Chabs & Hughes are on holiday, and new contracts will be sorted & signed when they get back.

Looks like we are going down the only really viable route for us. Bring in young talent that is not on massive wages, and actually play them this time. It’s higher risk as they will take time to adapt, but if we are relegated it should mean we haven’t got a silly wage bill and on the point of administration.

Never ******* heard of him. No ******* idea what all the weird graphs in this thread mean but I am ALL IN.

    Finally, a proper signing.

I agree. But him wanting to stay will still come with a price. But it may well be that an offer to double his wage elsewhere has become apparent - and we can’t/won’t match that in negotiations, that’s all I meant.

Yep, could be. I was just indicating the alternative and we all (myself included) have perhaps been guilty of thinking new contracts are a formality when maybe they aren’t.

I sympathise with the point made here earlier about us starting next season with a squad of prospects, but how I like to view it is some exciting prospects alongside Hughes, Cleverley, Gosling, Troost-Ekong, Femenia, Foster, Chalobah, Cathcart, Sema, Sarr etc etc.

I’d add Deeney and Gray, but don’t want to be shot down lol.

My general point though is we do have a lot of experience in our squad, both in terms of the PL and appearances in other top leagues. I think we can gladly absorb a few ‘prospect’ signings.

I do agree with others though that ideally our main striker addition would be experienced.

True - but unless his demands are unreasonable we should not bat an eyelid. He is a player we should be tying down and building the team around.

He has also shown the loyalty to stick around when we were relegated and looked a cut above when we were down there - something that may well prove useful in the future.

No way either stay if we go down again lol, Hughes was coming off surgery and wasn't properly fit until January, Chalobah still hadn't really proved he was over his injury, these deals would just be a favour to us to wangle some extra transfer fees (and of course a bit of extra cash for them too)

Nantes correspondent saying paperwork all done. Google translate his article and states that Louza will be a Watford player next season.

It’s followed by comments, retweets or crying emjoi’s from their fans. Hopefully they are not crying in the same way I will when Andre Gray leaves.

Our world class scouting network has worked out that if buying a player called Success means he just falls over when he’s not on the physio table then a guy called Louza will be the next Alexis Sanchez

Can we sign this louza whenever we like, or do we have to wait for the transfer window to open on June 9th?

I think you can sign players whenever you like but the transfer windows are the only time you can register them. Except free agents obviously.

When he refuses to play for us and mysteriously signs for Marseille, I’m going to be gutted.

So we ll have 6 CMs with this guy if he signs , all who are decent but nothing of the quality of Doucoure/Capoue/Behrami.

I hope Gino is going to pull some rabbits out of his hat like he did in 2015 as we need some experience and high quality .

It doesn’t matter what shirt number they wear. In any case, Doucoure was no 16 for Watford so until Louza wears no 16 we won’t know

Sorry, I’m sure you mean well, but I don’t think you’ve thought this through.

He may well be. However, I think there is always going to be a level of concern where we are dealing with Mogi Bayat. Is this a player the club / manager really wanted or is a player Mogi Bayat really wanted us to buy?

As a wholly unqualified person, it looks like quite a lot of our budget on a profile of player I would not have had at the top of our prorities.

I can't help but feel an extra £8-10m towards a striker / left winger would improve the side more at this stage.

Great, but is he as good as when Doucoure actually started playing for us at 24/25?

He's not a £30m striker that we are picking up for £8m, that's the problem.

I think the issue is the club are picking up a really talented young midfielder for what looks like less than his current market value.

    Which is bad...?
