Liverpool fans are right to fear our lightning breaks out of defence:

Almunia – Cassetti – Anya – Forestieri – Hogg – DEENEY!!!! Well, Deeney anyway.

I didn't go to the match, but have studied the highlights package on the Watford website, which always gives more than MotD.

It looked as though Hull were the stronger side until the sending off. The sending off did swing the match in Watford's favour, but they only really produced two saves from the keeper. The first was a very good save from Prodl and the second was from Capoue, who really should have scored from close range.

We had other moments. Maguire nearly scored an own goal after just 44 seconds, although I think the keeper would have saved it had it been on target.

Clucas fired over for them after 14 minutes, but it was a long way out.

Hull produced the next moment of promise in the 23rd minute but the final ball was too close to Gomes who saved comfortably.

Then we got the red card for Niase. At first look, it seemed soft and Niang did appear to over exaggerate, but Niase did lift his foot and catch him enough to rip Niang's sock. Even though it's a little harsh, I think it was the correct call as he went in with studs high towards the opponents leg.

The red card came at a perfect moment for Watford, as Hull looked like they were getting on top at that stage of the game.

Prodl produced a great saved from their keeper on 31 minutes from a corner.

From the resulting following corner the ball drops nicely to Janmaat who makes a good connection. The ball was on target and probably would have gone in, but it hit Deeney and went wide for a goal kick.

Amrabat had a shot deflected wide after 36 minutes for a corner.

From the corner Britos misses a clear chance by heading wide on 37 minutes. He really should have scored.

On 40 miuntes, Hull were caught in possession, and the ball was played to Amrabat who was free on the edge of the box. Instead of taking the ball on, he elected to pass to Capoue who was tightly marked and the chance was gone in an instant. I think Amrabat showed a lack of confidence in this moment, as had he controlled the ball he would have had a clear shot at goal with only the keeper to beat.

Niang gets to the by-line and puts in a dangerous cross, which Maguire slices over his own bar on 44 minutes. He gets lucky there as the ball could easily been deflected in.

After half time, there looked to be a bit of a change of momentum. Hernandez chipped the ball straight into Gomes' arms from range on 51 minutes.

Arguably Watford's best chance came on 59 minutes. From a simple Holebas throw, everyone missed the flight of the ball, and it lands to Capoue who stabs the ball towards goal, under pressure and the keeper saves with his foot.

On 60 minutes, we have a dangerous free kick on the by-line. The ball is floated in, but gets headed out to Holebas, who fires in a shot, but this is also blocked. The ball is then cleared and Hull have suddenly got a 3 v 1 situation on the break.

Grosicki carved an inch perfect ball across our goal to Markovic who hits the crossbar, the ball bounces down but not over the line, but Markovic is quicker to react and stabs the ball home.

The goal killed Watford instantly........and this is a huge problem we have with attitude.

Hull were lifted massively, and took control.

On 68 minutes, Clucas curled a free-kick just wide.

On 70 minutes, Hull had a corner which was cleared straight to Clucas who cushioned the ball and volleyed an incredible shot past Gomes for number two.

You have to say, both goals were top quality moments for Hull.

The game just fizzled out after that, but Deeney had a shot in the 90th minute which just went over.

So in summary. Hull were just about to take control of the match until the red card. After this Watford took total control but could not take their chances.

Hull looked a lot better in the second half. They scored a quality break away goal, after we over committed at a free kick. This changed the mind-set of both teams. Hull believed and we lost belief.

Their manager inspired them to keep fighting, ours just does not do this. This is the difference, and this is why I envy sides like Bournemouth, Hull and Burnley because of the spirit they very often show.

  5. HB1 - Did you not watch on a stream? If you did you will know that we were the stronger until the sending off - and then had almost 100% possession until the end of the first half. I think that the already 'on the beach' attitude was compounded by the idea that we could cruise against 10 men.
If anything, I think the sending off did Hull a favour.

Going down to 10 men can never be considered an advantage or else teams would chose to start with less player in the first place. It's all about attitude, will and desire to win.

The goal changed everything and we mentally threw in the towel once we were losing. This is one of our problems. You can have better players, but it doesn't mean too much if they are not prepared to keep battling to the end.

Saturday was a game we could have got something from, even after going 1-0 down. When it gets a little bit tough, we go missing far too often.

Mate I didn't watch the highlights, I went and it was a pish poor half assed performance by every single player in a Watford shirt. STILL ANGRY!!!

Exactly. The attitude is all wrong and we do not have the desire to fight against diversity. When we take the lead or the scores are level, we show a degree of commitment to the cause, but once we are losing, especially away from home, it's usually game over.

You have my complete sympathies by the way.

Anger is probably an enormous understatement for all of you poor souls that went.

Such is the lot of the fan.

What saddens me most is all the pundits predicted this result and I really hoped we would surprise them.

No fool like an old fool!:dismay:

It wasn't just the not fighting against diversity it was the "no hurry, tip tap, sideways, half speed, half assed football, expecting Hull to just let us walk the ball into the net.

Our record when going behind is awful - and it was last season too!

Maybe neither Flores or Walter know how to react to being a goal down - and have we got the leaders on the pitch to pull everyone together?

But we are still above the 3 teams you mention! (for now of course..)

    :naughty:

You just admitted you ve watched only the highlights and yet you speak with the detail, vernacular and opinionated tone of somebody who watched the whole game.

Its a repeated pattern with you; speaking at extreme and painful lengths about games you only have scant experience and therefore knowledge of.

I always aspire to be reasonable and accepting of all opinions, but your boorish, over bearing and argumentative stance makes me wish you d just fxck off to another forum and bore them instead.

I've said my piece about Saturday already. It was **** and the players should be ashamed of themselves, but they won't be. We won't get another point this season, but it will be enough now. As for HB1 I think he gave a fairly decent assessment of the game. So what if he watched the highlights, or a stream. He took more notice than me, and I was in attendance. TBH after they went one nil up I was more concerned with my 7 team accumulator I had going - like Watford I bottled it and cashed out, losing out on a further £230 quid.

There's nothing wrong my post (#284). The only thing that's boring is your repetitive attacks on something perfectly reasonable. I post just to make a debate, you add nothing. You just want to start another fight.....which bores the pants off everyone on this forum.

I'm a season ticket holder and go to every single home match and have done so for about 30 odd years. I also take in a couple of away fixtures a season as well, even though you've called me a liar in the past, and did not apologise for that.

If you don't like, just don't read it.

I know the person that contributes and the one that doesn't on this forum, and it's not you.

    This is insane.

Yes it could happen. But you could say that about anything. You could step outside today and get hit by a car. Then you'd be sorry for wasting your final day thinking about vast improbabilities.

I would hazard a guess that no team has ever gone down with this gap, with this number of games remaining, and with the number of teams between us and them. You cannot just say Swansea need to win 3/4, you need to say Swansea need to win 3, and Hull and West Ham and Palace need to win X. Here will probably be matches where teams below us play each other, limiting the maximum number of points they can achieve.

Plant your flag to the mast. Will we go down?

If no, stop bleating on about it because it's incredibly annoying to be dealing with paranoid what-ifs, that allow you to not be incorrect in either circumstance.
If yes, then carry on, but expect to be laughed at now, and at at the end of the season

I did one of those score predictor things, put us in to lose all our games then went with obvious / gut feeling results for the rest. We finished 16th and 6 points clear of relegation, and just 4 points off top 10.

This is quite true. Someone once approached me in a car park in Sunderland and said something to me: I did not understand a single word. Fortunately my Mackem-supporting friend was able to intervene and point out that he was asking the way to the post office.

There is nothing insane about that post. What is insane is your reaction to it.

You can clearly see what I think will happen in the opening line, so why did you ask your “pin the flag” question?

If you bury your head in the sand over the possibility of relegation, you are being very na*ve. This attitude, if held by enough people within the club, would put us in serious trouble. You cannot take anything for granted in football.

I’m just opening up people’s mind to the possibility of what could happen, with realistic scenarios. These are not warnings without merit, so don’t be so offended by it. Maybe it presses your scare buttons, and if it does, that’s a good thing as it stops people from being too comfortable.

If you take our last 5 games individually, then it’s more likely than not we will lose each one. I’m just basing my argument on likelihoods. I accept, as in my conversation with JB, that probability plays a part, and this is the only thing in our favour here. Will we lose 9 out of 12, or all of our final 6 games? I think yes, but probability would suggest otherwise. I would say we need at least one more point to be totally safe. So get that against Liverpool (which is our easiest remaining match) then we’ll be ok.

But a team that is desperate to stay up is a dangerous side. They often pull out great results (like Palace are doing right now) because they are fully focused. I look at Hull and Swansea’s final fixtures and they both have very winnable games.

Teams in Watford’s position are vulnerable, because people tend to think we’re totally safe. It’s taken for granted that we will not go down and that makes you easier to play against. We all saw that on Saturday.

I’m just posing the other side of the coin. Only a mug would believe we are totally safe right now.

He called Tom Okker a "filthy jew" circa 1976 so he has over 40 years of vile abuse to call upon.

I suggest a contest between Ilie and hb1 on their specialised subjects. Then again perhaps they could merge topics and debate the possibility of Watford being relegated due to Nastase's sudden appointment as coach and subsequent disqualification?

I looked yesterday and the bookies aren't even advertising odds for us to be relegated. Leicester are 250/1 outsiders. Think about what that means for a second. Organisations whose whole reason to exist is taking money from people who back the improbable are not even bothering to willingly take money on the chance of us going down. I'm sure if you approach them privately they'll happily take it but they're not seeking it.

You want to use Leicester as an example for odds? Really?

5000-1 Leicester winning the league last season, yet it happened.

They are not seeing it, because it's not in focus yet. If we lose the next couple of games with Hull and Swansea picking up points, the odds will suddenly be there, just like magic.

It's a 500-1 shot. Not worth debating. If you honestly think we are vulnerable then put some money on it safe in the knowledge that you have made a value bet.

  34. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

I used them as an example as they're the outsiders. I can't help that. The point, which you've deliberately deflected from of course, is if they're 250/1 we're even longer odds to go down.

Did you back Leicester to win the title 5000-1? If not why not?

  35. hornetboy1

    hornetboy1 First Team Captain

At 500-1 you'd be crazy not to back it, as a value bet. Can you provide a link as I think those odds are extremely generous.
