It might difficult for your fragile ego to handle but you don't decide who is and who isn't a Watford fan.

On that note, it was clear he was angry during recent interviews over the left back situation. Reminded me of Silva when he was critical of the board, also over a left back. A coach has to be very positive over the board, and at least appear to be singing from the same hymn sheet. I think what he did with naming substitutes and remarks in interviews obviously were directly aimed at the board. We all know how fragile Gino's ego is and he will not stand for it. When you take on the owner, there will only ever be one winner.

but who wins - we pay more compo- makes Gino look incompetent- the new head coach will be the 4th in 14 months (the worst run we have had including the time around the McKinley c*** up) so he is getting it wrong in making poor appointments. Maybe the Pozzo model has run its course and the much vaunted “ we buy the players you coach “ is no longer fit for purpose 8 years on after buying the club.

I have no idea if any other prospective owner is out there but even Gino must be questioning himself now as he is destroying much of the value he has created.

The best we can hope for is Gino remains as owner but takes his hands of the reigns completely and also sacks Duxbury. Get someone else in.

No one will pay what Gino values the club at - not during a pandemic, with us in the Championship and potentially huge financial issues round the corner. Would have to be a total maniac for who money is no issue at all.

Trouble is the Pozzo business model has gradually fallen apart, or did they just start getting too gung ho two years ago.?
They don't like British managers, don't like British players as supposedly too expensive, won't buy players requested by the manager..... Tbh it just can't work in British football.
Until we move on the big earners we are basically financially hamstrung.!!

Our players quite often pass 5 yards to someone in the same colour shirt.

Or even into the big wide open spaces behind a full back for Sarr to run onto.

It's not really about the style of play for me.

They are supposed to do this for a job.

Something's wrong at the club this season.

We'd better hope it was Ivic, given as he's what's changing.

Have never seen a team where so many players pass a ball short to a team mate and then immediately have a little sprint back towards their own goal to receive the ball again but further back. Our centre backs do it all the time.

Our midfielders also repeatedly do this move where they run towards our centre backs when they have the ball and get the ball to feet only to immediately play it crisply first time to the other centre back. Garner is a master at this. It's the most pointless of moves.

Sadly, I think too many modern players below the absolute top level have bought into the idea that possession of the ball is more important than anything.

Well after that sh1tesh0w earlier and the Tier 4 hastles, I spend an evening away from the news and then hear about the sacking during the sports news on BBC News 24. So, here we go again, the next football merry-go-round starts spinning. Wouldn't surprise me if they have someone already lined up. Please can we have someone who likes their team to try and score goals rather than trying not to concede any. Is that too much to ask?

It's like fad of having to play out from the back regardless of the quality of players involved, situation in the game and the reaction of the opposition. A time and place for it but not when the opposition have three players on the edge of your box waiting to pounce.

  14. GoingDown

Or have a set of defenders who are utterly incapable of passing the ball with any real ability.

Ivic also clearly thought he could play Foster as a 'modern goalkeeper'. Sadly he's less Allison and more Alison Moyet on the ball.

Ivic wasnt the problem. He just lacked the super human skills required to deal with the carcass of the Pozzo empire and Troy's dressing room.

The irony is that Ivic was vindicated in selecting Gray yesterday. Despite the overall disjointed display, he had more, and better quality, chances than any other forward this season at least two of which he made himself:

    - Header from deflected cross
    - one on one when he rolled the defender and keeper saved
    - chance from tight angle when he squeezed past defender and blazed it over
    - brilliant save from keeper when he got a touch to Garner's low cross

In addition to this, he also put in a great low cross that nearly led to a goal, and even pulled a back heel off that put Sarr in a good position.
Although he didn't score, that was by some distance the most complete performance by any of our centre forwards this season.

The problem with Troy and Gray is it’s like choosing which horrible disease you’ve want.

But... Gray will get in to scoring positions, Troy won’t.

Gray will miss most if not all of those chances, but at least he’s there to miss them.

Deeney just won’t get into any goal scoring positions, he’ll hold the ball up but that means he needs to play with Perica, so we have to play 4-4-2. We don’t really need someone to hold the ball up though, we need someone to put the ball in the net so playing Troy is inefficient as it involves two players.

So on balance out of the horrible diseases we can choose from, I’d rather the disease (Gray) who at least gets into scoring positions to miss them, on the basis eventually he won’t miss some of them.

Andre Gray could do with getting some goals - might make up for the likes of him breaking the rules meaning everyone's Christmas is ruined.

Maybe that will motivate him knowing people will be on his back until he does start scoring.

As with all our strikers of course.

Yesterday was the first away game where we haven't had "good luck" and we failed to respond to the set backs.

I suspect that was the main disappointment.

If we had lost 2-1 with their goalie having a blinder Ivic might still be in a job.

However, what you fail to mention is the numerous times Gray failed to adequately control the ball, which is always his main failing. From memory there were two occasions when this led directly to starting Huddersfield attacks and the others of course meant promising offensive situations broke down.

Well yeah, but that's par for the course with him. It was still a better performance than Deeney has managed all season and he created two chances for himself, something Deeney hasn't done since about 14/15 I'd guess...

The echo-chamber quality of this forum results in a number of things, one of which is a constant re-iteration of how poor a footballer Gray is. Well, there is a lot wrong with his abilities, but the one thing he does well is make the runs to get into goal-scoring positions. The fact that this has, of necessity, to be done at high speed adds to his poor touch to mean he makes a lot of mistakes.
Ergo, the way, the only way as far as I am concerned, to make use of him is to organize the team and its tactics to maximise the number of chances he gets. Some of them go in. This has resulted in the past in his scoring hat-fulls of goals.
This means attacking football. We have three decent-to-good wingers who could supply him and a target-man (albeit over the hill) in Deeney. Gray must play as part of a twosome.
The complication might be said to be Perica, and I'm pretty sure he could be used as well. ( He gets into scoring positions as well but I' m not sure he will convert them, but he hasn't played enough for me to be sure).
You are right: Play Gray (or Perica) and shower him with chances and half-chances.

They're both winners if he decided the job wasn't working out and opted for a nice payoff by provoking his own dismissal. Being sacked by Watford is unlikely to harm his CV, especially as he'd just won an entirely undeserved Manager of the Month

We brought in Giaretta at the end of August to be our new Sporting Director, from the sounds of the Athletic article he seems to be pretty hands on already, and in general appears to have been in attendance at the majority, if not all, of our matches so far this season. Perhaps he has it in him to help turn things around? January will be a big clue to that.

People have been latching onto that but think it includes a lucky draw at QPR and a home game v Stoke where we really did have the rub of the green on decisions as we have most of the season tbh.

I know people in the outside world won't know and only go by the table but don't think I have been so much vocal distained for the manager tbh.

This was already something which Garner was prone to doing before coming here, so we can't blame Ivic too much for that.

In fact, here's my comment on Garner when we were rumoured to be interested in him in mid September (before his signing was confirmed):
    http://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/james-garner.57558/#post-2902387

Spookily prescient of me in light of your comment now, no?

It's almost as if I know what I'm talking about when making judgements of players I've watched (whether they're from our team or play elsewhere).
