Apparently Cathcart was pretty solid so seems like his return to the starting line-up was pretty much the only positive.

I've barely been on here the last couple of weeks and have struggled to even motivate myself to watch the extended highlights on the website (I play football myself during the Saturday 3pm kick offs). I can't wait for this season to be over but would not be surprised if the absolute sh*te such as Deeney, Holebas, Capoue and Prodl are still here come August.

Cathcart was good I thought for the most part, considering he can't be fully fit. I have nothing against Mariappa as he is definitely committed to the cause despite being limited, but Jesus Christ he is not a left back. Don't understand why he didn't drop Kiko back and put Janmaat across, or vice versa.

Bit of a **** show really, thankfully my last game until next season.

Another poor piece of tactical judgement. The better solution was to bring Richarlison for Janmaat and switch Kiko to the right.

I don't think we can blame the defence for yesterday's debacle. A midfielder should have tracked Ince's run.

Which isn't to say that the defence hasn't let us down in other games recently

Thought I might feel different some 24 hours later but I really don't. Bit of an open letter / vent but I have to say bar a few shock results, the whole Premier League experience has been a complete dud. The worst thing is, some of the problems have been there for ages.

Far too many rubbish players have passed through our doors here and looking at this current squad none of Prodl, Mariappa, Holebas, Britos, Okaka, Capoue (been better mind) or Deeney should be regular Prem starters, bench at best. We can't afford to keep carrying that many players per season.

We can't keep being charged £400+ a season ticket for some of the worst football in the Prem. Apart from Silva's start, we're utterly sh*te to watch. From QSF's 4-6-0 formations with Jurado to Mazzarri's complete incompetence and Javi's Deeney sole striker hoof formation.

We cannot continue to carry injuries like this, Chalobah has gone from returning to first team training by Xmas to not playing again all season, Cleverley will not gonna be seen again this season. Why> Deulofeu looked superb, Kabasele our best CB and as for Kaboul **** knows where he is?

What about the youngsters as well? Jerome Sinclair looked a good signing but has done nothing as is clearly not cut out for Prem football, other than that have we even got some academy products good enough to utilise off the bench? We must have the lowest number of club grown players in the league. Who was the last player we developed / made better? Should've been success.

I appreciate you can't get every signing right and the likes of Doccoure, Kiko, Hughes & Cleverley have been excellent additions but we're still signing some duds like N'Dong which is making less sense with each passing day and the lack of real investment in the defensive area, too much cost cutting going on and still some question marks over weird decisions. Letting Vydra go and never replacing him, Layun going on to become a Champions League player, letting Amrabat go without sufficient back up. Not signing a decent left back when Holebas is clearly over the hill.

There also seems to be rotting smell lingering in the dressing room where every manager seems to fall out with the squad and they down tools after 2/3 good games, are we signing too many players with poor attitudes? It's just damn right boring now and I'm sick of spending so much money to be served up DROSS football and **** effort.

It's not a crisis by any stretch, we'll stay up and we'll stay up next season too but I honestly had more fun watching the likes of Carl ****inson, Don Cowie and Craig Forsyth giving 110% each week. They were 110% sh*t but at least they played to the best of their abilities. I just hope with the likes of Kiko, Hughes, Chalobah, Doccoure, Richarlison, Kabasele, Penadranda, the new keeper and some signings involved in the first team next season, it might be an enjoyable Saturday again.

I must stress I am talking strictly about the football side of things. I'm sure profits are good, the ground looks amazing, the heritage and community work is great but I don't honestly don't care I just want to enjoy watching Watford again.

Great post Squibba well said and truly from the heart too.

Can just also add to that why did we give extended contracts for two players who would hardly get a look on with a fully fit starting 11 and the same two players who make such amateur mistakes.

Is that a sign Gino is happy with the current defence? I mean I know we desperately need a good striker but sorting out back three must come first.

Still have love for Gomes but he’s not got long left in him, been a real pro for us though.

Keeping players under contract ensures that we get money for them when they leave. How many players have had their contracts run out in the last couple of years? If they're under contract we can get transfer/loan fees for them.

You don't know why Femenia was subbed, he could have had a knock or just been knackered. Also, the defence looked like they might actually keep a clean sheet for once so why change it?

Not to mention it all came about from a striker giving the ball away cheaply again

There was no sign of injury and nothing has been reported as such since, so you have to conclude it was for tactical reasons.

Janmaat, as with all our defenders, has a mistake in him. Kiko is far more reliable at right back.

To my mind it would make more sense to take off a Janmaat and switch Kiko. Had he done this, the winning goal could have been avoided as Janmaat was culpable

Good post. Interesting you mention the ticket price a couple of times though. The club would no doubt point out your ‘legacy’ season ticket is one of the cheapest in the division and considerably cheaper than for those who only bought one from 15/16 onwards or those who buy game by game. (At least I’m assuming that’s what you have as all the others are £500+).

I predicted this sort of post at the time we went up. The hype of the PL far exceeds what it actually delivers and once reality hits home people soon get frustrated. It’s attritional and everyone has too much to lose to risk more than a few minutes of gung ho football every few matches. I genuinely think we’d be lucky to get 1 genuinely enjoyable season in every 10 at this level.

It's strange when I see how other teams play vs how we play. Swansea, Palace, Brighton, Newcastle... hell even Stoke, Southampton and West Brom all play much better football than our team. Entertaining and a good mix of attack vs defence. Even v the big sides you sense that they have a bit of a threat about them.

At our best we generally seem flat and uninspiring. At our worst we are dreadful. And in both situations we are awful to watch.

As for Squibba's confidence about next season - the past 3 season's I have been confident - next season I'm not so sure for once.

A lot of the teams who struggled this year all have decent teams. The ones coming up are potentially very strong.

I think next year could be our toughest season and if we don't get the standard early season boost of the past 3 seasons then it could be a very long year.

Just seen the highlights and it was as I expected. It's a rerun of so many of our matches. We played well in parts. Probing well without too much cutting edge. Only getting a couple of shots on target.

We showed a better desire in defence, but we routinely do so many bad things all at once. Gray needlessly gives the ball away. This is just lofted high to the edge of our penalty area. This should be just a routine clearance, but Prodl makes a complete hash of it. The ball travels to the edge of the 6 year box, where it's cut back through Janmaat's legs and Ince is left totally unmarked to score.

We had so many chances to prevent that attack, but systematic failings from different players, one after another, gifted Huddersfield a soft goal. It's been like this for the entire season.

It's this groundhog day scenario that's so depressing. It's repetitive but somehow always seems to surprise our players.

I'm not so sure about that. Our points tally may be less than last year meaning we're on a downward slope since getting promoted. With more of the dross teams like Stoke and West Brom getting relegated, and ambitious teams like Wolves getting promoted, we really need to buck up our ideas.

Another injury farce like the last two years I think we'll go down. We also need a goal scorer and at least 2 solid defenders.

In the last three games we have allowed three substitutes to score being Defoe, Vokes and now Ince. Gracia is far too slow in making changes to match the opposition. We could and probably should be 7 points better off had Gracia made effective substitutions to nullify the oppositions changes.

There's nothing I can really add to that @Squibba but yesterday watching Sarries demolish The-Once-Mighty-Bath one of commentators (on BT) started to blame Bath's head coach, and Kiwi legend, Todd Blackadder only to have the other commentator to point out that "...it's not actually Todd who's out there dropping the passes and missing the tackles is it?"

Stoke and West Brom are long established premier league teams who's wage bill will dwarf any of the teams coming up. Southampton too (even more so) if they go down. The league will very definitely be weaker next season than this I'd say. Yes wolves look ok, but any of the others will be miles and miles worse than who goes down.

That being said, we'll get relegated if we keep the grinning gnome in charge.

The 'Sitting Section' is a feckin' embarrassment.

Fine, some old farts have trouble standing throughout the game and want seats at the front, but that section was almost entirely middle-aged tarts, in Tesco denim and Mummy's Boys so fat that they sweat when they eat.

I guess Sinclair was brought on to waste time - all it did was distract our defence to lose concentration and they scored.
