Nobody has mentioned the ref's performance on Monday night. Does that mean we feel he was ok. Stuart Pearce is glad he didn't give the penalty against DeMerit. Hope he's not trying to butter Jay up!!
Unfortunately you've just hit the nail on the head when it comes to football fans. Happy to criticise at length, not so forthcoming with praise for referees. Yeah, he had a very good game. Didn't let himself get sucked in by some tough but nevertheless honest challenges, didn't give a pen that a lot of refs would have at first glance and wasn't too quick to go for his cards. I actually think another ref would have had Francis off before the 90 mins was up, as he did foul a few times after being booked.
There were one or two things he got wrong, (Such as Gav's 50/50 header were they both got knocked out ) but in the grand scale of things we had a good game (for once) from the ref...
Somebody on the Man City teamtalk site said this! "Mahon's assault on Barton was no different to Thatcher's on Mendes" erm...So was Barton carried off on a strecher and knocked out then? Sorry but how can anyone excuse what Mr Thatcher did? I know we all like to back our own players but even the most ardent Man City fan would surely know that the 'assult' on Mendes was nothing short of a disgrace.
Maybe that Man City fan should have spoken out at the game. Along with the other 33000 muted fans. It's all well and good getting 33000 home fans to a game but when you're outsung by Aidy Boothroyd's Yellow Army then you should hang yourselves in shame. Maybe next match they'll get the stewards to sing because they had a lot more to say. I didn't go to their old ground much, my Mother always told me to stay away from the Maine Road, but I'm sure if memory serves me right they used to be alot more passionate/vocal! If under 2000 WFC fans can be that vocal away then hopefully we can bring the singing back for this Saturday.
Check this thread.... the referee and his assistants were discussed at great length. http://www.wfcforums.com/showthread.php?t=2667&page=2 also theres another one somewhere and i cant find it... grrrrrrrr.. lol
ref did well although i think he will have got a kick for not giving Mahon a yellow card for his over zealous header against Barton . Although it was good to see he so committed.
