HMRC issue winding up order for Portsmouth

Discussion in 'General Football & Other Sport' started by nascot, Jan 24, 2012.

  1. Jesus, I don't want this to turn into a personal vendetta, but this makes about as much sense as your accounting theories. YES our win against them will be removed but also YES so will our loss. Those teams who haven't played them twice will lose the points they gained in playing them (if any), but also the opportunity to gain points in playing them a second time.

To put it another way, both we and Coventry have played 29 games. If portsmouth's results are erased, they will have played 28, we will have played 27.

Or another way: we and Coventry for example have 17 games to play. If Portsmouth disappear, we will still have 17 to play, Coventry will have 16.

If this is not material, would you kindly tell me what is?

You talk about my accounting theories not making sense, then you write this!!! Priceless... I do not have the first idea what you are even talking about, and I don't think you have either.

  3. You really are a bit thick then.

I may be an idiot, Sir, but one thing I am not, Sir, is an idiot.

  5. 5 points if you get the reference.

It's either something you say to yourself while you're in the bath or a quote from Family Guy. I doubt you would watch a show like that, so I guess it's the former. Do I get the 5 points or are they removed if those teams who haven't played them twice will lose the points they gained in playing them (if any), but also the opportunity to gain points in playing them a second time?

  7. Why do you doubt I would watch a show like that? Still, fair play, take 5 points. Giggety.

  8. Look. It's simple. We have played Pompey twice. Won 1, lost 1. We would lose 3 points if their games were expunged. But we will have one more game to play than those teams that have only played Pompey once.

I would believe you were on a wind-up if you hadn't got a track record.

Are you for real? Please someone else pick up on this thread and talk some sense to this man as my sides hurt from laughing so much. And you call me thick. OMG. You really believe if Portsmouth were expunged we would have one more game to play than anyone else who's played Pompey just once? So who will this extra game be against then, Barcelona maybe? I'd fancy that. I would actually stop now, as once this thread gets read you'll be very embarressed with yourself. No going back to edit your comments either.

For instance us and Leeds have played 29 games. We've played them twice, Leeds once. Pompey go under and results are expunged. We have now played 27 and Leeds 28 in a 44 game season. We now have one extra game.

to be fair hornetboy what he is saying does make sense, i think you are just interpreting it differently.

what ghost is saying is that we will have a game in hand over other teams like leeds who have played the same amount of games as us, but only played pompey once.

Yes, but as I said before, that's largely immaterial. If a team had got the double over Pompey they would be the greatest losers as they would lose 6 points. If a team lost 5-0 to them they would be the greatest winners as they wouldn't lose any points but would gain 5 goals on goal difference. All teams would play 44 matches, so there is no extra game at all. We would have a game in hand, but not an extra fixture to play (we wont be playing 45 matches), which is the point GOBE was trying to make.

you might think its immaterial, but that doesnt change what ghost saying being true.

anyway i doubt they will go bust anyway, and losing three points would not be the worst thing in the world. i reckon we will probably stay up anyway.

If ghost had said "a game in hand" I would not have disputed this at all. I seriously thought he had lost the plot with this extra fixture thing. His posts were so badly written it was really hard to understand his point, then he started with the abuse as per normal. But I now understand what he was trying to say and I accept his point. Maybe you can interpret his posts in future as it would save a lot of time.

    No hard feelings GOBE.

You're making a fool of yourself unfortunately. If you had an upcoming game with Pompey but they cease to exist before that game, you have one less game to play, i.e. everyone else is playing on some weekend where you are able to take a break, etc etc. So we would have one more game to play than anyone else who's played Pompey just once, along with anyone else that've played them twice.

No, you are wrong. Jeez people. We would still have the exact same amount of games to play, just playing our next game on a different day that's all. So what you are saying if next week our match at Forest is called off we would have an extra game to play? No, we would have the same game to play, but on a different date. A game in hand on others in the league but THERE IS NO EXTRA FIXTURE.

I think everybody is making the same point in a different way.

He didn't say an EXTRA fixture. We would have one more to play as a result of playing Pompey once more that others. It's not an extra game.

He did say extra fixture (look at his post 05:28PM). This is what caused all the confusion, and he didn't correct himself. I am now happy he probably meant "a game in hand", which would make total sense. Shame he didn't try to make this clear instead of defending what he had said and throwing a couple of insults my way in the process.

So the goal scorers will be wiped out as well as bookings, and all the stats be wiped off.

Yes, everything will go, but to be fair to the football league, they will do everything they can for Portsmouth fulfil there fixtures. Although that could lead to Pompey fans playing for the club and getting beat 10-0 every week, which again would be grossly unfair. Whichever way you dice it, Watford would be totally stitched up if they folded mid-season.

I was commenting on your response to Kieran, who didn't say an extra game, but I don't fancy going on a 3 pager on the back of a misunderstanding.

I am not wrong, you are taking it the wrong way. From now until the end of the season, if you have played Pompey just once until now, you will have one less game to play from now until the end of the season. As far as I remember, the guy you were having a go at was making a point that meant the same thing but was expressed in a different way. Again, this is what's going on with me and you now. Surely you understand this?

    Anyway, this seems pointless.

It's because it's a leap year. The extra day means we can play an odd number of fixtures and be OK this season. Anyone who plays an even number of fixtures will be hit hardest.

On a more serious note, any team that hasn't played their home match will lose matchday revenue but anybody that hasn't played their away fixture will save expenses.

Worst result would be for FL to allow them to register a bunch of fans/YTS that get tonked every week. Happened in conference a couple of years ago - can't remember who though.

It happened to Durham City a couple of years ago but not in the conference. They were smashed every week.

It's happening to Kettering this season though. Their players weren't paid so all left and the kids played instead. Just in time for Luton to play them home and away. :dismay:
