We also need to back him and allow time for his methods to bed in. All this clapping now won’t be worth much if the crowd have turned on him by the end of September.

I have made a calendar reminder not to boo him at least until the end of October but not all fans are as reasonable as me.

It’s going to be very interesting to see what sort of a squad he has.
It has been remarkably quiet which possibly isn’t a good thing, without bug sales, we are in danger of administration, however quiet possibly the youngsters are good enough to get us up within 3 seasons.
But who I I’ll take the massively overpaid lummoxes off our thanks?
The only truly saleable one says he’s happy to stay!

Troy clearly researched and perfected the Ivic penalty taking technique to be ahead of the game for this latest appointment.

Yes. WFC fans are not patient. Moog is designing an 'Ivic Out!' banner as we write.

    Cautiously optimistic by Ivic.

He has a lot of work on his hands with this squad. Need to install more belief and confidence and get rid of the mercenaries.

Seriously, why do these football highlights videos always come with mostly crap and annoying music? Can't they just have the crowd noise (plus commentary for specially dramatic moments), or is that under copyright?

true Mazzarri looked and sounded far too happy to be a success in England. So good sign this guy equally has a face like a Putin tribute act.

Great video, imagine seeing that sort of passion (from all involved) on the sidelines at the Vic?

I also like his style, a bit like a hedge fund manager from Billions.

Our first manager in a long time who will have absolutely no preconceptions about the players and the club.

Ivic - you. Number 9. You chubby and slow.
    Troy - ok boss.
Troy to press - great coach. Some discipline at last. Great for the club.
Troy to Giraldi - get him gone.

I think the most exciting thing right now is knowing the coming months will not be dull.

After the horrors of last season plus (and I mean this with all due to respect to those very badly affected by the virus) a very boring period of life in lockdown and with everything shut down, that’s a very nice thought right now.

A no nonsense coach and a number of players who really ought to excel at the new level we find ourselves. A guy in charge who by all accounts is very good at fully using his squad and keeping everybody happy and motivated, which will be really be important because the Championship season will be even more brutal than ever because of cramming 46 matches into a campaign much shorter than usual. I hate thinking this but it’s not out of the question we could face more disruption too if the virus returns with a vengeance.

New coach in a new country with just four weeks to prepare for the season, plus still no crowds in stadia, so I think we should expect the season to be a slow burner, but that’s usually how promotions are won anyway!

It’s not inconceivable that he’s never even heard of Deeney, as opposed to Pearson who would’ve had years of media claptrap subliminally pumped into his ears and picked the team accordingly. If we can keep Giraldi away from Ivic for long enough hopefully he’ll be basing his decisions on what he sees with his eyes.

I love all this stereotypical Serbian hard man stuff.

I hope he sashays into his first press conference passing out gladioli to the assembled socially-distanced press corps, before camping up the Q&A session sounding like a Serbian Joe Lycett

Everyone is saying how good it is that we have a tough, no-nonsense manager who will get the under-performers performing or out if they won't tow the line - but didn't they say the same about Pearson? But happy with this appointment from what I've heard and look forward to seeing how this season pans out.

The only thing more important than Troy at the club is Gino's bank balance and for that reason I think Mr Watford's days of calling the shots may be numbered.

An overwhelmingly positive reaction based on this thread with the two main objections being –

    A) He doesn't know the Championship.
    B) I've never heard of him.

Neither of which counted against Slavi*a Jokanovi* in the long run – admittedly it was a bit hairy there for a while at the start. Ditto Marcelo Bielsa before he took the Leeds job. I know he's an exception in the sense that he is probably bordering on neurotic, but the point is he proved he can learn about this division, even if you weren't raised on a diet of 4-4-2, long balls, anybody can beat anybody and Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday football.

For me, the most important thing I've taken from reading about him is he knows how to build winning teams. If Pozzo, Duxbury and Giraldi equip him with the right players (A proper CB and ST chiefly) he has half a chance.

Yes....knowing the Championship is an advantage, however, it's not vital. We've hired plenty of coaches who knew nothing of the Championship before arrival. A good coach will get quickly up to speed. If he's familiar with the league then it's a tick in the box, but is not vital. Previous track record and characteristics of the coach are far more important.

He’s a Serb that did well managing in Greece and then Israel. He’d played in Greece, but never Israel yet did really well managing there. He’s now managing in the second tier but with potentially a number of first tier players, I can’t see not having championship experience being an issue.

The reason why people are happy with the appointment is that he's a winner. It might not work in the Championship and it'll be a very different league from those he's operated in before but the single biggest thing is to rid the club of the stench of failure and underachievement from last season.

Add to that comments from people that have watched his team and played under him about team ethic, hard work and organisation being key to his success and it seems like a sensible gamble. Far better that than some of the thoroughly uninspiring usual names that were linked.

The thing is the Hughtons and such like are just chucked in by the bookies, the only time we haven’t appointed someone more left field like Ivic is Pearson which was a bit of a Hail Mary considering our position. All things considered, I think Gino will see Pearson as a failed experiment and all the more reason not to deviate from his usual model in the future. Hence why I think the more boring/uninspiring names were never ever in the frame in the first place.

It seems a very positive appointment. He's up and coming and ambitious.

You'd imagine he would be very keen to succeed in a top league. He probably wouldn't get a Premiership or La Liga role so I'd guess he will be very, very heppy to be at WFC and give it his all. Could be a good fit.

  34. Burnsy

Plus, as I've mentioned previously, the Championship isn't really a league full of cloggers and defenders who just want to kick attackers anymore. That perception is a bit outdated. Even Millwall play decent stuff now and Rotherham and Wycombe are decent footballing sides.Theres obviously an element of it being less technical than the PL with lesser ability - but the standard of play has increased massively in the last 10 years or so. A side that plays good football with decent players, generally will do well and be in and around the top spots.
