Does anyone ITK, errrr, know whether this scandal will effect the Weinstein produced and Weinstein distributed "Fahrenheit 11/9" - Michael Moore's follow up to "Fahrenheit 9/11" - that focusses on master-media-manipulator Donald Trump?
It was an open secret that you do not go into a room with Weinstein alone. That's what is most amazing - how much he was protected by his own power. This type of story certainly isn't over either. There is a male director/ producer that has does this to young men too. I'm sure that story will be next to break.
*fixed* [ANECDOTE] One of the sisters (who is now a reasonably famous actor) of one of my "puffing" mates (I stopped years ago) once told us during a very "mellow" session that she was having to "blow" so many "revolting"agents/producers/directors/stars to "further" her career that it was putting her off "doing it" to blokes she actually liked (sadly I wasn't in either demographic). She was also contemplating joining Scientology as they "only" robbed you blind and brainwashed you as an alternative career enhancement move. [/ANECDOTE]
The music industry is exactly the same (probably worse). The world of "showbiz" from top to bottom is truly grim.
Not saying it's related but I knew a radio producer/DJ pretty well (no, not Saville) .... women/girls of all ages used to throw themselves at him all the time, he really didn't need to 'try it on' with any of them, it was on tap. Dunno how much this old fart is different?
It's nothing unique to Hollywood or showbusiness. It's present in every single industry where careers can be made or killed by people in positions of power. My wife was similarly harassed while working at, ironically, Manpower. She ended up walking out (and no, she didn't engage in any "services").
...is it exactly the type of victim shaming that makes stuff even worse. I like your posts normally. Please don’t degrade yourself by saying Harvey Weinstein is a ‘Lad’ or insinuate that he or others aren’t that bad because of the atmosphere they were in. There is literally no excuse for that type of behaviour so stop trying to provide him or others with one.
Sorry but none of the girls I'm talking about here were victims, none of them and as for "Lad", it was a joke ... in bad taste obviously but a joke non the less
Well I can accept that as I obviously don’t know any of the individuals you are talking about. But you have said ‘...of all ages’ so I would be led to believe that some of these girls/women weren’t of age of consent? In which case, they would be victims, however much they may have appeared ‘up for it’. Its a sad indictment of history that the entertainment industry of the not too recent past actually encouraged such behaviour and allowed it to be commonplace. And I know the ‘Lad’ comment was a joke. I was not offended by it! Just thought it a dangerous joke to make on a forum that we know is frequented by females but I’m certainly not the humour police as I’ve been guilty of a misplaced joke myself!
True, remember that stuff that was in the papers a couple of months ago about this going on among paramedics/nurses? Godfather is right though, some women do use their sexuality to get ahead. But they are two completely separate topics.
Carrie Fisher, legend. https://uk.yahoo.com/movies/carrie-...ucer-sexually-assaulted-friend-085158234.html
TBF her, ahem, ability "to put it* away" was (and is) legendary amongst the (surviving) B'wood Star Wars film crew. *Booze, "medicinal" herbs and powders and parts of the male anatomy.
Na you got me wrong there, "of all ages" throwing themselves at him is true enough but he was always careful ... He knew the law as well as anyone and there's no way any kids were getting any of it ... In those days they carried no ID but if a girl lied about her age, you usually knew within minutes of talking to them, honestly they may as well just have had "jailbait" printed on their foreheads they were that green. Don't forget this would mostly be in establishments where 18 was minimum age, a few but not that many got past the doormen.
The casting couch has been part of Hollywood and indeed other centres of film production like Bollywood since the industry started. It's entirely unacceptable and hopefully this case allows others who are intimidated by powerful figures in the industry to speak out. The shame is that when whistle blowers who are far lower profile do speak out in other industries they are the ones who end up without a job and ostracized. Transparency and meritocracy should be two elements which all in industry should strive to achieve. And while this is predominantly an issue of males harassing women , powerful women have been known to harass males too. Abuse of power should not be tolerated.
