Grenfell Tower Block Fire

The article I read said that there was more to it than just the cladding (at Camden) - uninsulated gas pipes and fire doors making this higher risk than blocks which simply had the cladding. So perhaps in that case it is an "appropriate" response.

I believe each building needs to be assessed on it's own merit and appropriate risk mitigation put in place- e.g some other councils have security patrols within buildings. I think it is only natural that council leaders will be erring on the side of caution.

Regarding the Kensington High Street residents who are complaining about the Grenfell homeless moving in- shame on them. If the block in question was always allocated for social housing, then who did they expect to move in? the Queen Mum? (The argument they make is that it is unfair that they pay £15k service charge and Grenfell residents will not- I expect there is more of a snobbery factor to it though).

I'm seeing more and more divisiveness and arrogance coming out, in this and other news stories. I guess it has always been there but social-media means we are all exposed to both a wider cross-section of society than we would usually be exposed to and everybody seems to want to share their political views on things they may not have done before.

Finally, the financial implication of this on the (already stretched) local councils seems to be huge. What is going to have to give (at least in the short term) to allow remedial works to take place? What chance of getting any money back from the original contractors?

    From the Daily Fail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...s-root-dangerous-cladding-Grenfell-Tower.html

"Watford say cladding is present at Vicarage Road and are undertaking 'a full of review of fire and safety' to establish if they also need to take action." [sic]

Should we be worried? I know there's a much bigger picture here - but it would be terribly unfortunate if we have to tear down a large part of the stadiums facade because of this, especially after they've got it looking so nice imo.

Yes. It could explode at any moment.

Presumably it doesn't have quite the same implications for a football stadium, with multiple exit routes, as a tower block that has only one route out? Also, I imagine a stadium has more sophisticated fire alarm systems in place? Not saying it shouldn't be investigated, but it's not the same thing as a tower block being covered with the stuff.

"Cladding" is becoming one of those trigger words, like 'terrorism' or 'bomb,' that you just don't say out loud anymore.
