The reason for this thread is because I spent a long time looking this **** up and I didn't want it to feel like a waste of time. The goal difference thread got me thinking, so I thought I'd do some research and see just how many league goals we've scored since the Pozzo's took over. Since the beginning of the 2012/13 season: Watford - 215 Manchester City - 213 Liverpool - 203 Bournemouth - 200 Derby - 197 Chelsea - 197 Man United - 186 Rochdale - 182 Rotherham - 181 Arsenal - 179 Wolves - 175 Leicester - 174 There are probably other teams that have gotten similar amounts - had to work it all out manually but you get the jist. I'm aware that a big reason is the fact that we've stayed in the Championship--teams like Leicester and Rotherham have moved up divisions during these seasons and obviously seen their goal tallies fall. That said, why is it we have managed to consistently bang in goals? Surely, if not this season, these goals will take us into the Premier League? Except for Derby, Rochdale and Arsenal, all of these teams have seen their goals guide them to a top-two finish in this time (Rochdale came third in League Two last season, which was still automatic promotion). Ahh well, as WatfordTalk pointed out in another thread--we can thank the Pozzos for bringing us more than a few memorable Watford performances. Although I won't mind City overtaking us next season if we're in the Prem with them.
Terrific stat and well worked out. Sometimes all the stats stuff does my head in. But that's a great one ...
Very good, I had this exact thought about the last 3 seasons, but lacked the tenacity to do the research. Long may this continue!
Guess who's top of the Championship 5 year table? http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/league-championship/all-time-table/5-year
By my calculations we have conceded 170 goals over the same period. I wonder how the other sides have fared in this respect?
Amazing how we've done this, yet sky still pick middlesborough for 4 out of 6 of the next games on sky. Didn't mean to dislike the OP.
For league games, definitely not. In all competitions, well, still no. Liverpool and Man City have probably played less games in that time--neither have had sparkling runs in European competitions to counteract the extra league games we play. And if we use all competitions, you have to factor in all the cup/european goals that Man City particularly have scored, with us usually just getting dumped out of cup competitions (by them most of the time) pretty early.
