I quite like it but it's like some trendies from Shireditch heard some nineties indie rock at distance

    Zola to Brentford?

Zola was at Brentford on Saturday to see their 2-2 draw.

Speculation is he is in the running to replace Warburton.

Hard on Warburton but the owner wants the European style of head coach not a 'manager' apparently, which Zola is used to and has previous in PL and Championship.

Wish him all the best if he does go there but he'll be found out very, very quickly.

Na ... he's always good for a season, was at West Ham too.

Replacing a good successful manager with one that's had 3 jobs & failed in all of them makes no sense.

They'd be better with Poyet. Watching Joka at work has made me realise just how poor Zola was.

I still fantasise he will come back as a forward coach for us.

I've heard Nani was there too - which makes even less sense.

Still, as we know, Nani has never heard of any English players who haven't played for one of Zola's previous clubs, so hopefully we can offload Fabb, Dyer and Magoo.

He gave us the most brilliant football we've probably ever seen at the Vic, but I don't think it's unfair to say he'd be found out as he always plays the exact same style of football.

Woah, Zola was not poor. To manage the club and players into third that season was a superb effort. The second season didn't work out for various reasons, and I agree he didn't have an answer to it on the field, but overall he was a 7/10 manager for us.

If Zola is the man they want, they should learn from WFC's mistake and keep Warburton on as his assistant, then they could have a dream team similar to what we missed out on by sacking Dyche!

It's official, you're a troll. I don't know how it took this long to confirm this.

In hindsight a lot of the issues in Zola's second season were not his fault.

The recruiting was well off (look how few of that season's recruits are still here), Vydra wasn't replaced, Hogg wasn't replaced, Chalobah wasn't replaced, Almunia went backwards (age related probably), Abdi was injured, and the era of the bad apples started. He also is quite probably the most unlucky manager I can remember at Watford in terms of refereeing decisions for/against.

The fault for that second season largely falls on Nani and the scouting team. That's not to say Zola doesn't bear some culpability, but he can only work with what he is given. He wasn't given much in the second year. Last season's squad just wasn't suited for promotion or Zola's style.

That's a bit harsh. Pretty sure many on here were advocating the same thing after Dyche got Burnley promoted.

Zola will get most sides playing very attractive football for a while, but it'll always only be a matter of time before a sharp decline in that teams fortunes. He does no work whatsoever on tactics or fitness, and those things were on the slide throughout his tenure here.

Even if you've got dedicated coaches for tactical and fitness sessions, he'll still turn the training ground into a laid-back doss pit. He just hasn't got the personality to be a success as a manager. Yeah, the players were all sorry to see him go, but I suspect that was in the same way that I was sorry to see a particular un-authoritative teacher go when I was at school.

I'd go for a career change if I was him. Maybe he could be an Ewok in the next Star Wars?

Necrobutcher's nailed it. Zola was a nice guy, everyone loved him, and in a professional football team that doesn't take long to be get taken advantage of by the players. Hence the one season wonders.

Zola gave me one of the most enjoyable seasons for a long time and I certainly won't ever forget it, real shame it ended the way it did. But Zola is still young and could prove to be a successful manager, with the right staff/club. Sad to see so many people bashing him.

Brentford's fans are in for the ride of their lives. Hope they go up next season.

Even though we're doing so well at the moment I'm still a little bit jealous.

With a little more defensive kudos we almost certainly would have gone up and I'm sure it's something he's looked at. Also his niceness, don't be surprised if he's been practising angry faces in the mirror!

A year from now if we're nearing the end of a 1st ever successful season in the Prem while Brentford are struggling in the Championship having long since dispensed with GZ's services, will you still be jealous do you think?
