  1. He's not going for £10M and neither would he expect to, he'd take that as an insult.

I'm glad you're not in charge of the club's transfer policy

Without being able to point at a particular source, I get the impression both the treatment of knee ligament injuries and the way clubs view them has moved on massively in the last decade and maybe most fans still see It as career-limiting where now it often isn’t.

I believe Deulofeu was operated on by Dr Cugat, who’s the world leader in his field, and oversaw his own recovery. I’m pretty sure he’ll be able to show through scans and evidence of the work he had done what his likely prognosis is. I’m reckon there will be enough clubs around prepared to take a punt, even if his value isn’t what it’s be if he was fully fit and were were a PL club.

I think that without a sauce you need an example of anyone sold after an ACL without a single game back to prove their fitness.

I can't think of any myself.

I've posted repeatedly that although someone might take a punt I can't see it will be before he's back playing games.

His game is all about speed and agility on the ball.

Might be more better outcomes after the surgery now than in the past but no guarantee he'll ever be back to 100%.

To be fair he couldn't do much worse than the current incumbents.

Van Nistelrooy, Gascoigne. Just two off the top of my head.

I bet that's a weight off your mind.

I'll take your word for those and we'll see for Gerry.

He certainly won't be here beyond January unless his recovery goes pear shaped. Hopefully it'll go well for him.

Here beyond January? He's not even in England or at the training ground!

He's gone, we just won't know to which club for a while.

Gino, you know I said we'd got 45m for Doucoure? Well... Erm... Cheque came through for 45 quid this morning and I think that's it boss.

Regarding what I said, pick a figure you think GD is worth. I've gone with 20m. Consider if a buying club is going to risk signing someone recovering (not even recovered) from an ACL for that price you've picked. WFC either dont sell and risk him not recovering in part or full, or they structure the deal to make it acceptable to the buying club. This imo, is add ons based on him playing x number of games, maybe muliple add ons per 5 matches, with a higher sell on clause to cover them selling him on 1 match short of the appearances needed. It makes sense, you just think the numbers are wrong which might be true because I spent 2 seconds plucking from thin air.

Not a chance Deulofeu goes for 10 million. Any less than 20 up front then we deserve everything we get tbh. He's worth about 30 million, if you consider how much others have gone for.

I think Van Nistelrooy played for PSV again after the injury that stalled his United move (if that’s the one you are referring to).

It may not be unheard of but it would be pretty unusual to buy a player in such circumstances. It would be hard for such deal to meet our valuation.

I think both had fully recovered and in Gazza’s case he went for a much smaller fee than he should have done.
With money a little tighter this year I’m not sure how many teams will take a risk on him before he’s even fully fit

If Bournemouth want £40 million for Brooks (who also has had injuries this past year), that should put into context what a fully fit and firing GD is worth.

I appreciate that’s what they’re asking and not what they will probably get btw. And the club sniffing around him are Man U, famous for over-spending on a player.

    But still....

I think Gascoigne’s last game for spurs was the injury match but he then missed a whole season before moving to Lazio. And as you say knocked about 30% off his fee.

It seems more likely to me that Deulofeo goes out on loan (with an option to buy, for example to Milan) if he cannot countenance the thought of playing even a game (to show fitness) in the Championship.

But then he signed for us in the first place, so who knows what level of personal humiliation he's prepared to sink to.

  19. I also imagine a loan is more likely, his gf is pregnant so I would guess his preference would be in Spain? Barca are in such a mess he could fail to improve them.

I would’ve thought that any club sniffing round Gerri would be clubs looking for a bargain and by definition the fee offered will be lower than we’d like.

He’s a great player but he’s not without faults, he’ll no doubt be fine after his injury but there is always a question mark and most clubs wouldn’t be entertaining it while there is that question mark, as there are plenty of other players out there.

It’s a bit like buying a car that’s been written off and repaired, people only buy them because they can get more for their money than they could otherwise afford.

Come to think of it we’re exactly the type of club who would be looking to buy him at a knockdown fee!

Which is probably why we bought him in the first place :D

However, on the whole I think we got lucky, as he has been a good player for us IMO.

Loan to buy arrangements weren't really a thing in the 90's. The loan aspect of the forthcoming deal will be the part where he 'proves his fitness'.

I mean, the bloke has clearly said 'my time at Watford is finished' or whatever. He'll be pictured with an AC Milan shirt shaking hands with the owner and the throbbing masses will still be convinced he's going nowhere til he's played a few games against Luton and Rotherham.

Gaza’s injury was the cup final was it not? I thought at that point he’d already agreed to join Lazio?

That’s based on memory and I was only 10, I was actually at that cup final though, despite supporting neither team as my uncle took me.

It was, but he didn't arrive at Lazio until a year after that and fee went from £8.5m to £5.5m. It was a long drawn out transfer saga if I recall, and had not been finalised at the time of the injury.

Yep, was just having a read up on it. £8.5m was a mega fee at the time apparently, also read his recovery was further complicated after he landed on his recovering knee after a fight in a bar in Newcastle!

My favorite Gazza story was when he met the Lazio manager Dino Zoff for the first time. They trained at Stadio Olympico and there is a long dark tunnel to get to the pitch. They shook hands upon meeting and walked down the tunnel with Zoff issuing preliminary instructions. And then upon arriving at the other end of the tunnel Gascoigne was naked. Must have made quite an impression with disciplinarian Zoff.

Brooks is both much younger and homegrown though, two things that will both particularly boost his transfer worth.
