Comedy legend. Heavily jowled actor brilliant in Reginald Perrin as Jimmy. Was 93 so a good innings for the old buffer.

RIP GP,a son of Great Missendon and big protestor against HS2.
I remember him in RP,ATGB and of course Butterflies.
Good film career too.
Very droll.

 

Always seemed old....even when I first saw him in Butterflies back in the 70s.

The original old git with a distinctive voice and dry wit.

Loved him in "Time Goes By" great show IMO starred alongside Judy Dench.

 

ITV 3 now showing 'The Infernal Serpent' Morse episode featuring GP as Matthew Copely Barnes,Master of Beaufort College.
Also has Tom Wilkinson and Cheryl Campbell in the first of her two appearances in the Morse trilogy.
Classic.

 

Was a royal marine. You wonder if his RP character was based on anybody he met during his national service.

 

The writer, David Nobbs, went to Marlborough College which has plenty of military links. He probably just heard the dads’ talk.
