All that quinoa and poncing about in Range Rovers seems to have robbed Fulham's fans of the ability to detect irony or sarcasm. My favourite is that in reaction to stuff here, is the bizarre claim that Vicarage Road is filled with people who only half support Watford and are attached to another "big" club, whereas Craven Cottage is a hotbed of people totally devoted to Fulham. Missing the point that most of their fans came out of nowhere and they have a neutral section.
In the top tier, ie. the then First Division. Home 8-0 v Sunderland 1982/83. Away 5-0 v Wolves 1983/84. Also of merit, two away wins of 5-1, at Spurs and at Chelsea. I remember well, I was lucky enough to be there to watch all four.
At the 2nd level at least, our record away winning and losing margin is 5 goals. This we have achieved on numerous occasions but Fulham appears on both sides of the equation. Lost 5-0 at Craven Cottage in 2000.. and won 5-0 in 2014. In fact this fixture has seen its fair share of goals over the years with 5+ goals in 8 of the 27 meetings between the two clubs. 0-0.
Next up you'll be telling him promotion isn't achieved by collecting tokens off of Kelloggs packets!!
I don't follow European football, especially the lesser competitions, however, I'm curious how Fulham managed to do this? Was there a spot for the fair play league in League 1 or something that season, as a result of some sort of anomaly? I've never met a fulham fan I didn't like. Or one I did.
Finished 7th in the League in 2009, so qualified on merit. Came second to Roma in group, then beat Shaktar Donetsk, Juventus, Wolfsburg and Hamburg to reach final with Athletico Madrid (then managed by a certain QSF !). Beaten by 118th minute winner by Diego Forlan, who'd also given A.M a first half lead, with Simon Davies equalising five minutes later.
Agreed. Nice ground, nice fans & good pubs. Looking forward to going there again. I'd be happy with a draw - a win would be great. A win by 5 goals or more would put us at the top of the table …….. !!!
Ah them. Well I don't support them. Or Watford. Or Fulham. Luckily there's a neutral section tomorrow so I'll pop in there and boo everyone equally.
I remember all of them but would happily take a scappy 1-0 tomorrow because it would be progress from the Javi reign of last season!
Big Stat for the Big Match Despite being two similar sized clubs who are geographically close we have only played Fulham 27 times ever in all competitions.
Just two times actually. The first wasn't even against us (forget now who it was against). It was an evening game in the late 80s/early 90s anyway. I was a motorcycle courier at the time and just dropped in the area and saw the crowds heading towards the ground. Not having anything better to do that night I parked the bike and went along. Even though I don't remember the opponents or score I remember vividly my seat at the very back of the wooden stand adjacent to the Thames. I leaned back during a moment of boredom and happened to look down into the darkness and saw the sheer drop from my seat to the water with almost nothing to stop me falling in if I leant back too far. Oh and it was raining that night too. Second time was the promotion party of which I have many more memories, none unique though.
Three for me.. though actualy only the once with Watford. Went there early 90's (vs Stockport i think) cause we hadnt played there for ages and i just wanted to tick the ground off. Went back year 2000 with a couple of Uni pals.. one followed Pompey.. and then finally Watford in 2005 for the 2-0 defeat in the FA cup replay.
I've only been there when Lee Scored. I had a guy in front with a transistor radio updating us on the Bristol City score. Of course this was during that brief period in our recent history when we dropped out of the top 2 divisions. I'm not sure we've played the likes of Fulham before or since.
Bit worried about tomorrow now that the shine has come off our season. Lose tomorrow and we might as well forget about any hope of cracking the top four. Lose tomorrow and we’re basically halfway to a relegation dogfight with a manager that can win away games against relegation fodder. A recipe for disaster. Hard to see where the next points are coming from.
When you put it like that, it's a grim outlook. Lose tomorrow, routine pasting at Arsenal and we'll probably find ourselves in our rightful position, perched ominously just above the bottom 3.
Is this the longest run of games we've had live on TV? I can't remember such a run before. Seems like we're on the TV every week now! Fairly certain that Fulham will score - so the big question is whether our goal-shy away form has truly been banished, or was the Burnley result mostly down to them being cack this season? 2-2 maybe?
