I know it's Sport Witness, but it's a slow news day on the transfer rumour front.

Looks like we like the French market at the moment.

He's a left sided striker/winger from Bordeaux. Scored 8 league goals from 17 appearances, and 11 from 30 in all competitions this season.

Marcus Thuram is named as a back up option, if we do not sign Kamano. He has scored 8 goals from 15 appearances, so his stats are slightly better.

He is listed as playing centrally, but can also play wide left or right.

Looks like the Cornet deal is off the table.

Not necessarily, as I'm sure the club line up a lot of deals, then finalised their priority if/when they get the green light.

What it tells me is that it does appear we are looking at a striking alternative, as we've been linked to a few players in this position so far in this market.

The Cornet deal is back in the holder generally to the side of the window through which Ice Creams are served from a van.

The original report that the Sport Witness article refers to is from French journalist Nabil Djellit (227,000 followers on Twitter), who works for francefootball amongst others.

Looks like there may well be something behind this story

On a side note, my local ice cream van sells hot dogs as well as ice cream. Baffling.

Do any of the people that write these reports, have a scoobie what players we are actually interested in?

Diversification pre brexit to cope with 6 months of stock shortages ? To help cope with the new uncertain weather we will get post brexit ?

  10. Not really baffling - eaten one after the other in quick succession, the sudden temperature change is very efficacious for colds.

And if you don't like hot dogs, a sweaty 15 minute sex session followed by a shared tub of ice cream has the same effect.

You will no doubt get disapproving looks from others in the queue though.....

  12. What can I say - if there's a queue for your partner's services, you probably need a new partner.

Didn’t Garcia rule out any signings this window, only departures?

Would do very well in the Diplomatic Service or as an arbitrator/ mediator or conciliator. Perfect first team coach who makes no demands on the owner/ CEO. Takes the line - if you don't ask awkward questions you are unlikely to be disappointed. Benitez take note...

Didn't he say he's happy with his squad at this moment but didn't know what the club would do. Which I interpret as

    1) he's not going to slag off his players
    2) he's not going to slag off his bosses
    3) if he gets presented with new players, all well and good

Not sure about reports that also claim we have a backup option. Unless he's stolen Giraldi's notebook it sounds farfetched.

Good player though, a bit of the Sadio Mané about him.

A lot of the folk on this forum, so I am reliably informed, prefer Moose to Ice Cream.

5 times in a night?! Not at my age, in fact, sadly, not at any age:(. Could do the ice cream part though

Odd, both players seem to prefer operating in the same spaces as Pereyra. I would have thought we'd rather need either another right-sided option, or a more dynamic central striker - unless we're pre-emptively signing someone for an upcoming Pereyra departure.

All the players we’ve been linked with can play across the line. Cornet is right sided, Kamano is left sided and Thuram is central.

All can play in the middle though and this is where I see Watford playing them if any signed.

Of course it’s always handy if they can play in a variety of positions though.

I don’t see them as a direct replacement for Pereyra, although that may happen further down the line.

As far as I can see, the club will not be selling any first team player in this window, but in the summer that’s a different story.

Seems like he has a very similar profile to Success to me?!

I’m personally of the mindset that January is for solving the glaring problem the squad has (if any). This position really isn’t key or a weakness.

Centre-back should be our only focus, or at a push a striker. But the attacking part of our squad would be better focussed on in the summer.

    Cornet is right-sided, yes.

However both Kamano and Thuram start the vast, vast majority of their attacks from the left flank. Neither Kamano nor Thuram look suited to playing through the middle at all; Kamano's goals tend to be the exact same 'cutting in from the left-wing on to his right foot then curling it in to the far corner' move that Pereyra specialises in/is often overly reliant on. Meanwhile, despite what the article claims, Thuram looks even more like a conventional winger. His main attacking threat from open play comes from running down the wing and then pulling back crosses. His goals have tended to come either from penalties, or headers from set-pieces. His finishing on the ground looks poor (he appears to have a tendency to do lots of Success-esque tame, panicked scuffs when in front of goal).
