For The First Time In My Life I Hate Our Team

  1. If this club thinks I'm spending another penny on tickets or a program or a shirt or food or drink following this ******* team whilst Giraldi is in charge and Deeney is captain and Mr Untouchable it can ******* think again.

Blatantly devoid of any confidence - both because of the general relegation predicament and particularly against Man City.

And I’m done. I have tried to stay positive and have secretly always felt we would be ok but I’m done.
I’ve been going to games since 79/80 season and never in that time would I have considered not watching the last game of the season when there is so much on it but this Sunday I’ve decided to play golf instead. I hate watching us on tv anyway but I’ve hated it even more since lockdown. I don’t hate the players, I don’t hate the owner, I’m just meh about the whole thing.
We are simply not good enough and as much as I’m not like some with their hate of the owner he, along with Duxbury and Giraldi must take a large portion of the blame. I hope Gino stays, I honestly do but we need a big re think in how we do things moving forward.
The most annoying thing about going down is it looks possible that some of the players we’ve had out on loan might actually make a difference and now probably won’t end up here.
I hope we do somehow perform a miracle on Sunday but whatever happens I will be glad when it’s over as it’s been horrible
I hope fans will be back soon because that is major part in why I’ve had enough.

He’s got things wrong this season but he’s an intelligent bloke and will know this and will hopefully know how to rectify this.
I also think that in general he’s been a good owner and has done more good than bad plus I worry what kind of owner we might end up with.

    I’m done too.
I’ve been going to the Vic since 1982 and over the years I’ve seen some wonderful things and been there for the bad times under Lee, Perryman etc.
Where we are now sits squarely with Gino and Duxbury. They have lost the plot entirely over the last few years. The have believed the hype that has been trotted out - “best of the rest” and all the spin bites that Deeney has come out with too.
For me, lockdown and the absence of Watford and then the restart has made me reevaluate and I’ve found that I was a lot calmer and balanced person without the weekly disappointment, frustration and annoyance that comes from supporting them.
So for me personally I think it’s time to take a break from Watford. Sadly that’s something that I thought I would never consider.

This is a great summary. The anger and frustration watching that rabble is just not worth it. Why the hell should we care so much over a situation out of our control. It’s crazy.

I look forward to Saturday afternoons spent enjoying time with family and Saturday evenings meeting up with friends in pubs. Far better than watching morons who don’t care, get paid a handsome salary for turning in dross performances for a club they don’t care about.

The games rotten and so is Watford FC.

Worst scenario we're less than a decade from AFC Watford's first game. It's only football and all that.

I haven’t had a season Ticket since the Boothroyd era and only go to the odd game now due to not living anywhere near, but if you regulars want things to change then you have to vote with your feet.

If you don’t like how the current owners do things it’s easy enough to vote with your feet, the hope would be they will listen and sell the club and that it won’t end up in the hands of someone far worse.

If he’s so intelligent, why does he continually hire a manger he feels like he needs to fire? This season isn’t an anomaly just because we’ve gone down - this has been building just some have wanted to believe that it hasn’t. Others saw it whilst others buried their heads in the sand when warned and said we should not sound ungrateful, as if being concerned about the future means you cannot simultaneously be appreciative of the past. What signs are there that he will know how to rectify this? And I mean longer-term... One of my big concerns is that we stay up and it’s treated as a success and sign that what they do is working. I have lost any small faith I had in them that they would change.

I think its very clear that the Pozzos wanted a different approach. They invested in Gracia by ignoring an awful run following the FA Cup Semi and utter humiliation in the final. They were keen to back their man and the talk was of a long term coach. it was pretty clear why they had to ditch that approach. The attempt to steady the ship with QSF was a gamble, but not an irrational one, nor was moving him on. The choice of Pearson, against type, was inspired, but he himself is a short fuse, questionable staying power at this level.

Had Deulofeo been fit, we would probably have been toasting a great escape. His loss, Deeney's injury and then the blow of losing Capoue for West Ham was too much.

Yes there were long term structural problems in the squad and with the approach. It's us being outgunned. Even Villa with £150m investment struggling, Fulham spending hugely and faltering. We couldn't match either.

Everyone can call for new owners, but if they are not richer then the club will not progress and we have no guarantee that they will be so invested in the stadium and the other facilities the Pozzos have built.

You don't get to where Gino has got without being intelligent. You say this season hasn't been anomaly but I would say it has because no other season have we realistically been close to getting relegated. I am concerned about the future and there are things that clearly need to change, Giraldi for one. I can't answer what he thinks will need to happen long term but good businessmen know when things need to change and I would hope he sees that now.
In terms of the manager, it would be lovely to see somebody come in and stay here for a long time but what Duxbury says is correct about managers especially at a club like this. If they do well there is a fair chance they will go to a bigger club, if they do badly there is a fair chance they will be sacked. Since we've been in the Premier League I thought most of the manager changes were correct. QSF took as far as he could, Mazarri was very highly thought of but sadly it didn't work out although injuries didn't help. Marco Silva seemed like a good appointment until he got his head turned by Everton. I thought Gino stuck with him for as long as he could before results dictated it couldn't continue. Gracia was a reasonable success but we came in to the season not remotely ready so the buck stops with Gracia. QSF second time round was an odd appointment. Pearson was brought in to try and get some fight back in the team which he did for a while but who knows what happened with him at West Ham.
I think he's made sensible decisions on managers and I like the fact that if it's not working we don't hang on for too long.
I have faith he can turn things around again but that's just my opinion which I understand is not shared by many.
I do get why people think he should leave but I'm a big believer in the grass is not always greener on the other side and having seen a few owners in my time we could do a lot worse than Gino

I believe Granada were division 3 and on the verge of bankruptcy when he took over so not sure what the point your trying to make is

They've thrived after they were sold by the Pozzo family and reached heights they never did under their ownership.

What sort of situation did the Pozzos leave Granada in? On the pitch, they were basically like Sunderland having survived by the skin of their teeth year after year, but I don't know if they had the upheaval in the playing and coaching staff that Sunderland did

In fairness, the Spanish league is a lot more open outside the top 3, and for teams like Granada, there isn't the same money involved so I don't think they're as likely to be taken over by a shyster

I think we can all agree there's method to the madness whenever the Pozzos get rid of a manager, but it begs the question, why did they appoint those managers in the first place when it was going to end up like it did? Out of all the appointments we made, it looks like only Silva was made with the mid to long term in mind, and that ended well, didn't it?

Has nothing to do with your original point:-

"I worry what kind of owner we might end up with."

My response has been that since the Pozzos sold Granada, they have thrived as a club and finished higher than they ever did under the Pozzos. So they ended up with a pretty decent owner afterwards.

I think what the point might be is, in a league full of absolute nothingness, loaning a load of average players in for a season is good. It works at low level because average and cheap look like world-beaters at that level.

See Abdi in Championship as case in point.

Question is does the way The Pozzo family has conducted business in their many years of football ownership work in the top leagues? What is the end goal and is it possible for them to achieve it?

I'd say Udinese being in the Champions League once was as close to the ultimate goal for them.

Lucky old them. The guy that does own them seems like the sort of owner we'd like. Wonder if he was one of those who were mentioned as being interested.
