We are down. Norwich and southampton winning. Was the wrong appointment. I think anyone can tighten a defense up when they play 5221 with 2 cdms and cms wide. We are now in the same position as when qsf was sacked. Absolutely no cutting edge and nothing going forward but dominate possession.
A woefully incompetent manager brought in to work with a woefully incompetent squad, both issues of which lay at the feet of our woefully incompetent board and owner.
I've never, ever contributed to a "Gaffer Out!" thread. But today we were outclassed in squad choice, set pieces, tactics and game management by Sean F**king" Dyche.
I maintain that our squad, whilst imperfect, is easily capable of finishing comfortably mid-table. It won't happen with this negative anus in charge. We'll pathetically fall through that trapdoor to the Championship having used barely 25% of our available ability.
I thought we looked the better side until their goal and then collapsed. When Dawson went off we looked weak at the back, and Burnley were always going to have a spell. Rather than bringing on Masina who isn’t a centre back, we should have gone with a four at the back and brought on Sarr and attacked them. Very few of our players look Premier League quality to be fair. I would be amazed if we stay up to be fair. We need to go for teams at home, we look like we are waiting for something to happen. I’d prefer us to go down having a go, than this rubbish.
He was never going to achieve it anyway. Even his defensive minded approach has been sussed out now. Chelsea's kids could of scored a lot more than just the two, and Burnley found their way through. It is not the formation that is wrong, it is the players themselves who are not up to the task of carrying out a solid game plan. We will continue to struggle even if we had a top class defence. Our real problem is up front. We score so few goals and when we get a chance, it's wasted due to inept finishing and too many touches or bad decisions. QSF cannot coach an attack from a side - but then again our striker force is the worst in the league by a country mile. We do not have bags of cash to throw at the club - we are where we are. But we have every right to be upset. Gino has a lot to answer for, with such disregard for where the players needed were not actioned. We spent 30M on a player who looks a shadow of what he really could be. 30M could probably get you a decent defender and a striker, even if they are from a lower league. Our ageing squad cannot keep up with an attacking style of play. We cannot go gung-hoe each game because we are so fragile at the back - it has been said time and time again. Our U23 have some real talent. and what is the problem with allowing some of them to step up? They will never get the chance to prove themselves at the top level. QSF did what he could, and I respect him for trying.
Are you on a wind up? That squad is a shambles. Absolutely not good enough and that is showing in the results.
No I'm not on a wind up. We were fine up to and until the Wolves semi final. I don't know what's happened behind the scenes, but these players are capable of so much more than what we're currently seeing.
Last season was a complete fluke. It happens. We have simply dropped to our natural level, and the old f**ks in our squad are another year older and more useless.
QSF came to Watford after making an utter mess of his 6 month stint coaching at Shanghai Shenhua ... he has brought with him a 'team' that have achieved very little ... I could never understand why he was re-appointed ... maybe, sadly, because no-one else would take it on ... could be a long winter ...
Gino seems to have the decision making of a child sometimes. Too many goals let in? Get in a manager who specialises in not letting them in. To compound it, QSF's been here before and it all ended up going down the toilet. Such a lazy, lazy appointment and I bet QSF is taking it in too.
There was no fluke about last season. We've got a good squad. Something went wrong behind the scenes. We'll probably never know the exact details of that, but it doesn't require a rocket scientist to see that QSF and his negative tactics are only ever going to be counter productive to the SHlT we're in.
Watching him slip and fall on his @rse in the play off Semi was class. That is passion. We need that right now.
If we're buckling up for another trip down memory lane, I'd rather have Slav back as he knows how to get out of the championship.
I understand where you're coming from but there's a few things to consider. Foster & Holebas are 12 months older than they were when we were really playing well, which makes a big difference when you're 35/36. Cathcart & Mariappa were first choice pairing as centre backs for most of the season, that was never going to last. Femenia seems to have fallen off a cliff this season. Although improved today mind. Doucoure Spurs aside distracted by transfer talk. Capoue not much difference, stats might say he's intercepting less. Hughes as a right midfielder was totally found out. Deuolofeu much the same. Pereyra actually been improved under QSF but still, he had 4 goals in first 3 games of last season no? Most definitely a fluke. Deeney's been injured, Gray's limitations have been further highlighted by being forced to start rather than coming off the bench and nicking winners. Gracia stumbled on a unique formation and shape that worked for .a while, it's a okay squad with clear deficiencies which are clearer with injuries. If Janmaat, Kabasele, Pereyra & Cleverley were all available today I reckon we could've won the game.
Who? Who in the squad is genuinely, "good", consistent, Premier League level? Talent and ability wise I'd say we have Deulofeu, Pereyra, Doucoure, Janmaat, Foster, Capoue and potentially the likes of Quina that are fit for this level but the "consistent" part of it is lacking, more so for some of them than others, but the vast majority of rest of the squad is at best not quite good enough and at worst utter, utter dross. The fact we have the likes of Mariappa starting games for us in 2020 is unforgivable. We are a squad full of Championship players and OAP's, but I agree that our crap manager is never going to get the best out of what we do have.
it isn't though. We've had an attacking coach and defensive coach and not got the required results. The players are no longer good enough and the recruitment the last 3 years not good enough.
Who do you blame? Are you that bothered? I get the feeling that, like me, you feel a relegation cleanse isn't a bad idea.
Deulofeu - best player we have for skill but will never be a consistent goalscorer. Pereyra - too lazy and don't score enough. Doucoure - good games and bad games. Trouble is with no competition for his place he can do what he likes. Janmaat - leaves gaps at the back defensively. Not that good in that respect. Foster - is ok with shots but bit dodgy on crosses. Getting on in years. Capoue - bit like Doucoure. Can stay in his comfort zone and his position is safe due to no competition for places. Quina - not good enough yet as 2 different managers not played him much. The rest as you say below this standard (apart from a brief Deeney/Gray partnership which was fruitful). And from my descriptions the standard not great to begin with. I think Gray is ok as a box player only because we don't have any other one. And if we are are a squad full of Championship players and OAP's like you say then our manager is getting the best out of what we have as we are in the bottom 3.
I blame the unsatisfactory recruitment of players in the last 3 years for our demise. I don't mind relegation now that I feel it is going to happen.
It will be interesting to see how much we get for Doucs, Peryra and Delefeou when we are in fire sale mode.
