The History Boys - more like a play than a film, with the quality of the piece all in the witty dialogue and excellent acting performances.

Best part of all though was that it was shot in my old school, so it was just like a trip down memory lane.

I just ended up yelling at the stupid little **** everytime he kept trying to interrupt anyone doing anything remotely stupid/funny.

    Fat *****.

Hot Tub Time Machine seems like a movie no non-American could like.

Like Mr Bean and non-English, or Jerry Lewis and non-French.

Mrs Sven insisted on watching Deep Blue Sea last night right before we went to sleep, I warned her but obliged.

I quite enjoyed it, but for the ****** effects when Mr Smartarse Shark decides to eat people, she was scared all night.

    Stupid bint.

Just saw 4 lions, and i'd give it 6.5/10.

Had some funny bits, but overall it was fairly distasteful, and actually quite sad at the end.

Watched Killbill 1 and 2 last night and the night before, quite enjoyed it but think the ending is a bit... ****.

Kill Bill 1 was the most boring, self indulgent, 3 hour long in-joke for film nerds I've ever seen. I couldn't bring myself to care enough about what happened next in order to watch II.

I'm English and I don't get Mr. Bean.

Jerry Lewis is the American version of Norman Wisdom. God only knows what the French see in him.

If you can take subtitles Intimate Enemies is one of the best war films I've ever seen. Brutal depiction of what war does to the most principled of people. You get a real feeling of how de-humanising and terrifying combat is. Set in the 1959 war between occupying France and Algerian liberation fighters. Interesting portrayal of former French resistance/liberation fighters torturing Algerian resistance/liberation fighters.

Other sub titled War films I recommend are Days of Glory about Algerians drafted into the French army, Flame and Citron about resistance in Sweden (I think), Max Manus (resistance in Norway) and Assembly (Chinese blockbuster about the civil war).

Just watched 'Here Comes The Drunken Shepherd'.

It's a foreign language film from the Mongolian. It's all about a little shephered boy who loses his flock of yaks that his father has asked him to look after.

Fearful of the consequences he run's off to the Gobi desert where he is picked up by a caravan train and goes to the caliphate of Baghdad only to find it destroyed by Hulagu Khan.

He joins up and becomes a man and returns to his greiving family some twenty years later a high ranking captain in the Horde. It all ends well.

    A really moving story.

Please watch it you'll be surprised. :sign15:

Have recently watched Akira Kurosawa's Russian language film Dersu Uzala.
It was nice, sort of a cross cultural buddy cop film minus the cops.

A Russian surveyor comes to rely on an old man native to Siberia as a guide as he maps the place for the Tsar.

I don't think I am giving much away to let you know that Dersu dies in the end.

District 9 - not a fan, had an ok storyline and quite liked the symbolism with apartheid in south africa, but overall didnt think it was great.

The wife made me watch The Runaways.

It was pretty good though...story of building the legendary all girl rock band in the 70's that Joan Jett amongst others came out of. Really well done.
