If you have not watched "CLIQUE", it is well worth a watch and both series 1&2 are available on BBC i player right now.

    Great binge watch :)

So, Larry and Jeff open a restaurant; the chef, who they hired because they thought he was a holocaust survivor because he had numbers on his wrist, has tourettes...

To whoever on here recommended “it’s always sunny in Philadelphia” - thank you!!
I was searching for my next binge to sink my teeth into and it’s brilliant. Characters are so selfish and their almost trademark massive inappropriate argument in each episode always make me laugh. Mind you, I was always laughing 10 seconds before René would say “you stupid women” because I knew it was coming.
    Brilliant!

Certainly not my favourite TV series but I have just binge watched all four series of Peaky Blinders. Somehow I had never seen it but my kids all like it

We ran out of momentum around the start of series 3.

    Worth persisting?

This evening may the ideal time for the Pussy Rash episode.

Curb is very like Wodehouse in terms of how all the threads tie neatly together at the denouement.

Larry's closing monologue in the PR one, with the doctor's reaction, appallingly brilliant.

Not sure. As we binge-watched we just kept going. Series 5 starts soon so we will decide whether to continue then.
I think Mrs S liked it more than me. Might have been something to do with the lead male though.(who she probably also liked more than me :) )

Watched the first 2 episodes so far and I'm a big fan of it so far! The first episode following a Liverpool supporters group in Rwanda was particularly touching.

Just caught up on this with the better half, how on earth did you binge watch it?! I'd have been an emotional wreck by the end!

The first two are fantastic series but I'm not too enamoured by the third, yet.

How far into S3 are you? I felt similarly to you at the start, but it comes together in the last half of the season.

Before that it’s a bit disjointed narratively, but there are some excellent scenes that pay off in the long run.

I'm only on the second episode so far so maybe judging it harshly. The issue I have so far, is I don't know enough about the new girl to care about her yet nor understand why she is narrating but I guess that will be explained.

I feel the show almost misses Hannah a bit so far.

Agree with this. Just got into episode 3, and it’s been really good so far.

The Dortmund doc on Amazon is good too.

I think I watched the first 2 or 3 series and read the first few books (I think I thought it was a trilogy, rather than an ongoing, Sharpe type saga), but I think it's gone on too long now. There have been plenty of natural finishing points but it just goes in circles. Alfred doesn't trust Utred, his wife suggests they send him on some suicide mission, Utred saves the kingdom and shows his loyalty, but then it all happens again.

It's like when the Ghostbusters saved New York, but in Ghostbusters 2 everyone still hated them.

I felt the same at that point so I'm guessing you'll probably enjoy the last half a lot more.

Ani was an out-of-nowhere character and combined with the chronological jumps and frame narrative format, I feel it's too confusing at first. It's a bit too much when it all predicates on a character you have zero reason to care about that that point.

It does come together later though. I don't think you'll be unhappy if you stick with it.

Yeah I agree. I have enjoyed the show and its a good watch. But it does appear to just repeat the same story but with just different characters or protagonists.

No idea if season 4 will be any different.

Agree completely. After everything Uhtred has done for Alfred, it's beyond ridiculous that he is still treated with outright hostility by so many, including Alfred's own wife.

I get that religious bigotry was a lot more prevalent back in the day, but some things defy logic and reason. There's a point at which someone has proven themselves, "heathen" or no. Uhtred is so far past that it's jarring to see people who have directly benefited from his actions still treat him like crap.

Just watched the second half of episode two and it seems to ramp up rather quickly if not still slightly disjointed. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm in your camp, Arakel. Just finished Season 3 of Stranger Things and, despite the product placements, I enjoyed it. And, despite Moose's claims to the contrary, there are plenty of critics who enjoyed it too. My only mixed feelings were over the "double ending" - on the one hand, would like the obvious "twist" to be true. On the other hand, it would feel like a bit of a cheat.

Ghosts on iplayer seems like half decent fare. Only 2 episodes in. Ghosts living in an empty house are upset when a young couple arrive to renovate into a hotel, but let them stay if they put the tv on what they want to watch and show them how to fix the boiler. Theres a tinge of bbc unfunny about it, but its got some charm and is produced in some part by the horrible histories lot.

The Repair Shop. Where experts in the fields of metalwork, carpentry, engineering and painting restore objects mainly of immense sentimental value to near pristine condition. It is wonderful to see practical skills at work and the joy they bring to the people in returning their treasured possessions back to life. Only a temporary break on entropy which is part of the pleasure.

Currently on my second watching of Breaking Bad (with my other half) and also on my second watching of Deadwood (just for me when she goes to bed).

Just majestic, the pair of them. Deadwood is just intoxicatingly good, I could rewind each scene and drool over the dialogue, set design and acting. In fact I could just do a supercut of Al Swearengen. Mainline it into my veins.

Have you seen the movie? Been meaning to watch it as I’d echo your sentiments about the regular show, but haven’t managed to get around to it yet.

The TV series was quite a masterpiece of subtle storytelling over 36 'mini-films' that allowed plot, setting and character development. The film wraps all of this up but in 110 mins. You do feel a little short-changed. ..C**ks***er!

I haven’t either, I’ll give it a watch when I’ve finished season 3. With it being cancelled before the writers felt they were done I get why they revisited it. If it had come along five years later when binging box sets became more of a thing then it would probably be in its 10th season by now.

This is yet another series of Garth Ennis comics adapted for TV (the other is the wonderfully bonkers 'Preacher' that's being wrapped-up now in its fourth and final series). Now, before I watched 'Preacher' I had read all the books and, although at first I hated the TV casting (with the exception of Pip Torrens as Herr Starr) I finally got to like them (although they don't look anything like the original characters) and happily discovered that the series really, really got the feel of the original.

So before I watched 'The Boys' I found the original comics in a SAFE space (some of them are rumoured to be available as a freebie on kindle) and read them - they're extremely violent and full of, what can be only described as, actions and dialogue of adult nature. I loathe Karl Urban's portrayal of cockney phsycho Bill Butcher (although his Dredd is the definitive) and as a Kiwi would/should have been able to do a decent accent but he's still not big enough. In the books Hughie is a sweaty-sock who has more than a passing resemblance to Simon Pegg, which makes Pegg's casting as his dad really odd to watch. The rest of 'The Boys' are well-cast (especially 'The Female') and the 'Supes' are really well done (although their 'after hours' behaviour is really toned down on TV compared to the books).

The problem I find with any comics adaption (and I freely admit to being a comics nut) is that most readers want a carbon copy of the original but producers have to 'interpret' the source. Some of these interpretations do really work and add to or really capture the original: 'Dredd', 'Watchmen' (I'm eagerly looking forward to the HBO series), 'Preacher', 'V for Vendetta' and others just fail and really 'miss' most of what was in the original stories, such as iZombie, the Walking Dead, Lucifer and, I'm afraid, 'The Boys'. They've 'tinkered' too much with 'The Boys' as it's just 'alright' and not the completely 'out-there' comic.

I’ve watched two so far, I like the concept but there is a lot of over acting, lots of pensive looks just off of camera all the time.
