So how many points are we going to need for us to make a serious attempt at actually going for it this year? We curently have 18 points. Before the 3rd round we have: Newcastle a Manu h Spurs h Burnley a Palace a Hudds h Brighton a Man city a Lesta h Swansea h There must be at least 6-10 points in that lot. So up to 28 points maybe before round 3? Then these before round 4: Saints h Lesta a So maybe 2 or 3 more points. So as long as we get through round 1 you'd hope we have at least 30 points if not maybe mid 30s, and feel relatively relegation free. Is it time to go for it or will the club still think that more places in the league is a bigger priority?
I have a 7/1 bet on us finishing top half, so It's the league for me. League reflects performance throughout the season, and is probably the most highly rated competition in the world, cup is just beating 6 teams, anyway, who is going to knock Man. City out?
It all depends upon who Man City get in the 5th or 6th rounds (should they reach that far) as Champions League knock out stages are held around those weeks, the CL will trump the FA Cup.
It will be more important for us to avoid relegation. If we can be confident of doing that, I'd love us to give it a proper go and have a wonderful cup run.
The FA Cup is usually a Saturday with no league games until the following Saturday. Theres no reason why any team in the Premiership shouldn't have a good go.
Should be taking it seriously ANYWAY irrespective of where we are in the League. We've already tossed away the chance of one decent cup run, have no wish to see another thrown away.
Most of our squad don't play internationals, we aren't in Europe and we went out of the League Cup first game. How many weeks rest do they need in a season??
Could have a good cup run this year if we avoid some of the big guns..... knowing our luck it will be Man City away again
Agreed. What with a couple of international weeks thrown in as well, we could find ourselves having 2 games a month if we go out of the cup early.
Good points made in the above posts, no we don't have European games to worry about, so as long as it doesn't affect our position in the table, a good cup run would be very pleasing.
