Blackburn 2-2 Newcastle

Has Rafa Benitez broken a mirror recently? This is turning into a shocker for Newcastle.

Ciaran Clark has gone off injured.

He was replaced by Jamaal Lascelles who has gone off injured.

Lascelles was replaced by Isaac Hayden who is now injured.

That's before you take into account this is a replay they didn't want and has gone to extra time.

Concentration is one of the hardest assets for a top level GK. Fatigue affects goalkeepers as much as it affects outfield players, and that's where it's failed him there.

For the Newcaste GK, when Blackburn missed the 3rd a few minutes before, I'd like to point out his superb positoning as the stopped him hitting it across whilst also covering his near post. That's one of the difference between GK levels.

In my own experience as a 5-a-side GK it's probably the most important asset, only second to reactions. (In my case, I compensate for less than stellar reactions with ancticipation.)

 

Case and point. Now the Blackburn GK has had action to do he's now notably sharper to shots.

 

Chris Sutton seems to think every player who goes down has a head injury. What a weirdo.
