A classic way too early FA Cup thread here as the extra preliminary round begins this weekend. The reason I mention this is because one of my local clubs Burnham, now enduring a spectacular fall from grace, are appearing in this round for what I think might be the first time ever.

Some BBC info below. Weirdly their article on the extra preliminary round seems bigger than their football league preview.

Too many fixtures to list here, not sure if there are any other local teams involved in this round as well? I'm sure there probably are.

    Local (to Watford) teams:

    Edgware Town v Holmer Green
Leighton Town v Northampton Sileby Rangers
    Leverstock Green v London Colney
    Tring Athletic v Desborough Town
    Wembley v Daventry Town
    Burnham v Oxhey Jets
    Cogenhoe United v Berkhamsted
    London Tigers v Sun Sports

Continuing the theme from last season, I hope we don't even turn up for this Cup, it'll only get in the way of our season and stop us finishing 16th rather than 17th.

Harefield United v Northampton On Chenecks

Only mentioning them as I used to play for them ;)

Forgot they got relegated last season and didn't check that league.

Burnham lost 2-0 in the extra preliminary round for the first time in their history. That is truly tinpot...

Thanks for slating where I grew up...to be fair it was ok until about 1995, when the urban srawl from Slough engulfed it. Now it is full of chavs etc...

Still flying the flag for the local area:
Sun Sports, who caused an upset by knocking out Northwood
    London Colney
    Harefield, who drew with Wembley.

Ah the Church off the High Street. Memories.

Now we're about to have the 1st Qualifying Round, another of my local teams, Slough Town will enter the fray. Incidentally, they're finally moving back into Slough when their new ground opens on 29th August. They've been nomadic since the end of the 2002/03 season. I'd expect them to start moving up the leagues, as they always got decent attendances back in 90's.

Not the FA Cup, but spare a thought for Luther B now managing my local club Burnham (mentioned above) following the sacking of Dave Tuttle. Burnham lost at home 0-11 last night (yes that's right, 0-ELEVEN!), to record their 5th straight league defeat and have a goal difference of -27 already. 3 seasons ago they were one level below the Conference South, now they're looking at either a 3rd straight relegation, or folding, which seems most likely.

What happened to them, money pulled out? I remember watching Aylesbury Utd over there a few years ago.

St Albans are into the 1st round, along with Boreham Wood and Chesham United. Harrow Borough have a replay with Margate to get through.

The draw takes place tomorrow and the lowest ranked team left is Westfields from the ninth level of the pyramid.

On a side note, Gifton's Burnham picked up their first win under his management yesterday. This was also their first points of the season! Onwards and upwards I guess...

City to draw Luton at home is my dream tie! Would pull in a full house of 5000 I reckon!

On another note, one of Paul Merson's lads, Sam, has started the last few games and is banging them in for the Saints, including the winner on Saturday.

Local and interesting First Round ties:

    Merstham v Oxford United
    Taunton/Hemel Hempstead v Barrow
    Northampton v Harrow Borough/Margate
    Westfields v Curzon Ashton
St Albans City v Carlisle United - Carlisle are currently the only unbeaten team left in the football league, potential for TV??
Boreham Wood v Notts County - TV??
    Eastleigh v Swindon Town
    Exeter City v Lut*n Town
    Peterborough United v Chesham

Will go to Saints game as long as it is not moved to sunday, I suppose there is a chance that it may be a TV game.

If Sky had the FA Cup still I reckon City v Carlisle would definitely be on TV due to the Merson factor. Noe sure many Carlisle fans would be happy about travelling down for a Friday night or Sunday either! I won't be off to the Liverpool game anyway, so it will be city for me.

Bit of a shock Hemel falling in the replay.

I went to the Harrow v. Margate game on Sat, very decent 2-2 draw. Quite glad Harrow won the replay, Margate fans were a nasty bunch of peasants.

I reckon Boreham Wood might be on BT. Reason being that yesterday they showed live from their ground Arsenal U19's in the UEFA youth league. So the ground is all setup for live broadcast it would seem....

  26. nascot

    nascot First Team

    TV games are:

    Friday 4th November - Eastleigh v Swindon
    Saturday 5th November - Merstham v Oxford
    Monday 7th November - Southport v Fleetwood

    There were too many games drawn where the non league side is away. A few of these switched the other way would have been better;

    Peterborough v Chesham
    Hartlepool v Stamford
    Northampton v Harrow
    MK Dons v Spennymoor
    Gillingham v Brackley

The Merstham game is good. I thought Maidstone v Rochdale might have been on, also St Albans had an outside chance. Westfields are probably disappointed drawing Curzon Ashton as someone bigger would have meant a TV game and an extra bucket of cash.

Saints v Carlisle United- Date Confirmed
    Sunday 6th November 2pm K.O.
This is due to the game being selected as one of the games to be included on the BBC Sport Final Score highlights programme

Scenes in the 2nd Round as Lut*n come back from 0-2 down to win 6-2, and AFC Wimbledon were 3-0 down at Curzon Ashton with 10 minutes to play, only to win 3-4.

Non-league teams through/in the draw so far:

    Barrow (beat Bristol Rovers)
Eastleigh and FC Halifax (drew 3-3)
    Sutton United (beat Cheltenham)
    Macclesfield Town (replay with Oxford)
    Lincoln City (play Oldham tonight)

Barrow and Sutton were the only cupsets this weekend. Away to Barrow would be an interesting one for us!

Would love an away trip to non-league. But we will get a home draw to some boring champ/div 1 team and lose

    "Ian Rush"
"Yeah and he says if you don't drink lots of milk, when I grow up Ill only be good enough to play for Luton Town"

So Saturday, a supposidly red letter day in English football as the 3rd round of the Emirates FA Cup arrives. A day of shocks and drama galore, and the FA website leads with a piece on our potential giantkillers Burton Albion!

    http://www.thefa.com/news/2017/jan/04/watford-burton-albion-nigel-clough-preview-040117

Any ideas on potential shcoks then? I'll have a stab at predicting a few:

    Sutton United v AFC Wimbledon
Watford v Burton Albion (The Hornets to shock their Championship opponents)
Wycombe Wanderers v Stourbridge (after a replay)
    Brentford v Eastleigh
    Millwall v AFC Bournemouth
    Middlesbrough v Sheffield Wednesday
Stoke City v Wolverhampton Wanderers (after a replay)
