    Well worth the wait.

Excellent win by Jenson coming from no-where.

Is "Lewis dangerous" or just an agressive driver not having much luck?

Yeah really hilarious....... Please do not watch if you are of a nervous disposition it truly is horrific.

Edit by Admin: Can't be having that 2nd video on the forum, way too horrific for a work/school safe site.

Pryce was killed by the head trauma and the marshall was shredded into pieces.

Only a roll call of the marshalls subsequently led to him being identified an hour later.

    Thats awful!

I have to say my heart was in my mouth when the marshalls were on the track on Sunday. Why were they rushing around in small gaps in the traffic, rather than waiting until the cars had bunched up? Why were they wearing black and not a high viz?! I think the head marshall might be out of a job.

But credit to the back markers, they were very alert and reacted well to the panicking marshalls!

I'd have to agree. Back then the marshalls ran across the circuit with the race still going on and on the Kyalami circuit home strait with the cars travelling at some 160 miles per hour. The marshall that was killed was carrying a fire extinguisher which was damnably heavy and which hit Pryces helmet when he collided with the unfortunate man.

Sadly you still get the odd marshall injured now and then by debris still. The real danger is with rallying. There are still deaths and injuries to them and spectators and is pretty dangerous even now as compared to F1.

Will Bernie et al. see the light and ditch the Valencia GP. Has it ever been exciting there?

Agreed, its a failed attempt at copying Monaco.
Time for a new European GP: Algarve Circuit, Brno, Zandvoort, Le Mans (short track) or Brands Hatch would do nicely instead. Although don't St Petersburgh want it in a few years? So I suppose that will replace it.

I think Russia is getting it's own one soon.

They could rotate the Euro GP every year but it might mean a lot of investment for all these smaller tracks just to be at F1 standard for 1 year.

Alternatively they could just ditch it (along with Bahrain) and give longer contracts to countries that might have a better track. I'd like to see a Mexican one or re-instate the Argentinean GP. I wonder if they'll re-look at a South African one

Same with most of the new tracks.

The traditional Grand Prix circuits still provide the best (apart from Monaco but that is all about money..)

Silverstone next which should be decent.

Didn't the European GP used to be at N*rburgring which provided some good races.

Round the Nordschleiffe would be fun..............

I do wish they'd give them all the same engines. It's tedious watching the same race order where driver ability is less important than the car itself.

Hill in a Brabham. At the back of the grid. In the Williams a world champion.

Williams, Renault even Mercedes are nowhere near and I feel sorry for the likes of Hispania who cannot compete at all given their limited budget.

In the past any start up team could join like March, Tyrell, Arrows,Osella etc etcand be reasonably competitive.

Perhaps they ought to go the Moto GP route . They're uprating to 1000cc and reducing the costs of competing which means more teams will enter next season rather than the scant number of current competitors.

I'd say the best tracks are actually ones over hilly terrain, rather than it being down to the age of the track. Brands Hatch has great racing around Paddock Hill and Druids, Donnington has the Craner Curves, Spa has Eau Rouge, Brno is just one big hill, Laguna Seca has the Corkscrew. The boring tracks are usually flat, such as Bahrain, Valencia and Indianapolis (Grand Prix).

This theory also means Silverstone is boring. Which I think it is, although maybe the new layout will shake it up.

I'll add my input on this, the reason the Honda was so bad during their last two seasons was because they were putting all their R&D into the 2009 model, they were focussed on getting a car competitive for the new rules which came into effect. Fair enough it was a new Merc engine, but that was the same enginge the Mclaren's had.

I disagree with that. I dont think Silverstone has ever been boring. Its one of the fastest & challenging races there is. The drivers and teams love it.

One thing i dont want is anymore street races. Valencia has an 8 year contract, and I doubt it will get renewed.

With the delay in the Canada race and it finishing at half 10 more people watched it. It would be good to see a race that starts at 8pm Europe time.

I'd argue it was as a result of their poor form that they started developing the new car early. But yes, other than that fair comment. Although if I remember rightly there was a delay to the car, as it was being updated from the original design.

Alot of teams do have the same engines. Red Bull have the same Renault engine as Renault & Lotus. There are also 3 teams with Mercedes, Ferrari & Cosworth engines.

In total there are only 4 different engines and there is not alot of difference between them. Its mainly all about aerodynamics.

Silverstone is quite bland in my opinion. I might just be bitter from bad experiences there and it not being the best spectator circuit though. But I don't think its one of the best tracks in the UK, let alone the world. I would have loved to see F1 at Donnington.

Agreed, street circuits are generally poor. Although I quite like Surfers Paradise in Australia.

The F1 circuit? In fairness that can be quite entertaining, although they need to sort out the DRS zone properly for next year.

  20. Danthek

I agree, but it was the first race to have DRS, so I'm sure it will be sorted next championship. Although, where else could it be?

  21. scummybear

To be honest I don't remember exactly where it was, was it just after the final corner? I just remember it not being as effective as everyone made out and not as effective as races since.

Problem being, Albert park really doesn't have many overtaking points.

  23. scummybear

    scummybear Reservist

Looking at it there doesn't really seem to be any other place, none of the overtaking points have much of a straight beforehand. Maybe they're just better off not using it, as I'm pretty sure its not mandatory for every track?

  24. Danthek

    Danthek Reservist

You could have the detection zone just after sector 2 starts, and activation point just after the chicane? Would bring the cars closer together for the final 4 corners, and lead to more overtaking.

On a look at the rules, it doesn't mention if it's mandatory. To be honest, quite the opposite, as it now seems all circuits will have 2 zones...

  25. scummybear

    scummybear Reservist

Bunching the cars up might not make that much difference in the next couple of corners, after the tubulance has kicked in one DRS switches off. Although if the cars are closer together and the original DRS zone is kept as well (ie have two zones) it would probably mean more overtaking into turn 1.

There's too many races as it is. Why Europe should have it's own GP when there's developing countries itching to gain one and to invest in the sport I do not know.

Alternatively they need to separate it into a two tier system. Historic races are guaranteed each year and then the other tracks take it in turns.

    Certainly guaranteed races should be:

From a historic point of view UK - Silverstone and Monte Carlo - Monaco. I think you would also have to guarantee Australia Germany, France, Italy.

From an economic Point of view
China, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Russia, India.

Thats 11 so gives us another 6 or so slots that can be rotated.

With respect to fairness of competition, F1 is the pinacle of motorsport, there are plenty of other formulas with same engines/same cars etc. Rules in F1 should be lax. A technical advantage is part of the sport.
where safety and speed is concerned they should continue to reduce the engine sizes and also limit fuel tank sizes to promote environmental research.

Good idea, but there isn't a French GP any more because it was a load of old todge. So that would put the Historic ones down to 10, a nice round number.

Are you sure the works engines are not superior ?

Anyway that aerodynamic advantage is because some teams can afford to spend millions upon millions in research and others cannot.

They tried to impose a cap on spending and the big teams did not want their party interrupted.

It is sad that smaller teams as once McLaren were when set up by said Kiwi and Williams under Frank could enter and be competitive pretty quickly.

The Mercedes engine is certainly better in the Mercedes than the Mclaren and the Force India.

What did people think of the antics in the final few laps of Silverstone this weekend then?

From my point of view, great race aside from the middle third when it went a bit flat as the track dried out. Fantastic racing between Hamilton & Massa on the last couple of laps - shame the same couldn't be said for the Red Bulls.

Turns out with about 5 laps to go, Red Bull came over the radio uttering nonsense about MW's left front tyre needing to be conserved, which he ignored, and continued to ignore the constant radio-ing from the team for the next 3 laps, and until he had been along side Vettel going down the national pit straight, when he was given the order "Mark, maintain the gap".

Also, great weekend for Paul Di Resta up until the confusion on the pit-stop, and then the collision on the following few laps, bit of a shame to be honest.

I pose to you this question:

Was Mark Webber right to ignore the team's orders in persuit of more points, and a moral victory over his team-mate that could potentially be the turning point that the sport needed this season, or was Horner right for insisting that Webber be allowed anywhere near Sebastian Vettel with a 2nd & 3rd place in the bag?
