I remember his loan spell causing much contention on the forum. I thought he was decent enough, although as you say, on the slow side, but I do recall there was a good number of folks who hated him, and I couldn’t really put my finger on why that was.

I suppose it was a time when we expected a lot from loan signings that came down to the Championship from the Premier League, and when you think about some of the class acts we did take on, such as Lansbury, Cleverley etc. he didn’t really set pulses racing.

He was way before the likes of Lansbury and Cleverley, so you can’t compare him with them, he was just one of those unassuming, unnoticeable loans who ran around a lot with no end product! He did however have a decent career after us with Colchester and Charlton I believe without checking the records!

What about another Northen lad from Boro I think.

    Josh Walker.

We must have had some kind of link up there!

Luke O’Nien - Walter was always raving about him and then gave him 2 minutes as a sub at the end of the season.

Fine. Switch Lansbury and Cleverley, with Chris Eagles and Danny Webber

Luke is in the second series of Sunderland til I die. Only seen 2 episodes so far but he's articulate and seems like a decent lad.

Two brick ********* centre forwards who never kicked a ball at senior level that I can recall: Omari Coleman and Uche Ikpeazu.

Think it was Zola who loved him. Did well at Wycombe to earn a move to Sunderland for whom he seems to be doing well.

It was Beppe Sannino who rated O'Nien, for his application and hard work. I think he now plays at full back. Has worked very hard to get a chance as a professional. Going well with Sunderland.

Maybe Beppe loved him too. I only remember Zola’s comments. Yes I think he’s an attacking RWB now.

Uche Ikpeazu. Now made 216 senior appearances for clubs in the football league and Scottish Premier league! scored 45 goals in total and now playing for Hearts, so made a decent job of being a footballer!

Didn't he break his leg playing for us in his early games and then went back to Scotland?

I remember being quite excited by his first appearance. Did a nice one 2 with someone to break into their box.

Chris Baird's brother used to sit next to me when he was here on loan. Ulster accent. "You've got to beat the first man you ****!" Was his catchphrase, every time we took a poor set piece. How still relevant today.

Yes, he was signed up on non-contract terms and played for the reserves. He was eligible to play for the first team but was never picked or maybe he just didn't have his heart in playing anymore. He retired soon after.

The only thing I remember about Guy Whittingham is that he was a Portsmouth player, even though he apparently made 4 appearances for us, i am still skeptical this actually happened lol
Does anyone remember him in a Watford shirt??

    Yes in March 1999.

We drew about 3 games 0-0.

The fact we drew about 3 games 0-0 suggests that he didn’t have much of an impact as a striker lol

One of those players that missed a couple of open goals and hit the woodwork which is more than Micky Quinn did!

The highlight of his spell was scoring on Easter Monday at St Andrews in a 2-1 win that was part of the run to the play offs in 98/99

Didn't we chant his name or something else like "Elton John's Taylor made army" non stop for about 20 minutes culminating in that goal.

Yes meant a lot to him as an ex AV player. Was great to hear the jeers choked back in the Brum fans throats.

He played in the 2-0 or maybe 2-1 win at home to CP. Was the first game I took my 2 young boys to. The cheer when we scored scared the **** out of them :)

I remember it vividly. He had a reputation as a poacher, but he was just lightweight and completely unsuited to us. I hated him.
