The football was an improvement on Allardyce, certainly. More points and a far better goal difference last season too, so there have certainly been positives. There were also a number of concerning things too. Particularly the way we slumped in the middle of last season and then needed a storming end to the season to finish respectably.

The zonal marking thing doesn't bother me particularly, or rather the concept of using it doesn't. All the best teams do. We are simply rather poor at it.

How do I feel? I wanted him to be given time, at least a couple of seasons, but at the same time you can't lose 5 league games on the bounce. That simply isn't acceptable. It's my own, arbitrary number admittedly, but there has to be a line somewhere.

I think he's done for in all honesty. I don't have any faith that he will be able to turn it around quick enough to avoid the chop.

I have to admit, I'm surprised Everton have stood by Silva for so long. Why haven't they sacked him and gone for Mourinho?

Silva is never going to deliver what Everton want. He's just not up to it. I think that is crystal clear to everyone. Not sure why Moshiri is sticking by him, maybe it's a pride thing?

Mourinho wouldn't come to Everton. Even if he would, his wages would be enough to cause us real problems, particularly if we ever needed to pay him off. Then there's also the likelihood that he would leave a car crash behind after a couple of years. For a number of reasons, it's unrealistic and, daft as it might sound, I wouldn't want Everton to bring him in the way things stand currently. I suspect he fancies the Spurs or Real Madrid job anyway.

Silva is in a very privileged position, in a way. Everton are mindful of the fact that we have had a lot of upheaval in recent years and some stability is required - has Silva actually done enough to justify this level of faith in him? Probably not, but sacking him is the last thing Moshiri and Brands want to do. I've said he has one more game to save himself, the reality might be that the board are prepared to wait even longer than that. It's a strange situation. I don't think pride comes into it, really. More the fact that everyone accepted last summer that we needed a period of stabilising the club (Koeman was also sacked after about this length of time) and they're now having to be as good as their word on it.

But it's not working. You're in the bottom three now. Surely that will be the final straw?

I've been following Everton's form and they've been quite fortunate to pick up the 7 points they have got. Certainly didn't deserve to have beaten us, and look how bad we are. The win in the cup at Sheff Wed was fortunate by all accounts, as they missed a couple of sitters.

Everton have now lost 5 of their last 6 in the Premier League. With the expectations and investment, I cannot see why they would not pull the trigger in this international break. It's not going to get any better. He's been there for a while now, had a few transfer windows and had lots of time to implement his style.

Everton should be riding high in the league this season. Look at all the top clubs. Spurs and United are floundering. Chelsea are a bit experimental this season and cannot sign anyone in January if they have an injury crisis. Arsenal look vulnerable. There's a huge opportunity, which Leicester are taking advantage of, to sneak into the top six. A club like Everton should be well placed right now, but they're nowhere near.

I don't disagree with much of that, I can only tell you that, rightly or wrongly, the club believe that this time around there's more to be achieved by backing the manager and staying patient than there is by sacking him

That being said, there's a limit for everyone - I don't expect we will give him too much more rope to hang himself with

Club that never does anything continues to not do anything. Turn it off and on again, The Championship is a great laugh. I’ll be ready for it again after another two or three years of watching the bloody Premier League.

Can only see Silva getting sacked if they are still hovering in bottom five at Christmas. a couple of wins and they will be mid table. Not sure what his contract is, but can see him departing next summer in a more dignified way (for both parties) than a mid season parting of the ways. With significantly more spend than Leicester or West Ham, Everton are not reaping much reward for the investment, but that can be said of many clubs.

With a new stadium diverting resources and senior management attention, they will want some stability on the coaching side of the club. So if it ends up as as a safe but unspectacular season i can see them sticking with Silva until they have the chance to put in a new face before the start of a preseason.

Silva's average tenure at each club he has managed is 52 games. Everton's to Burnley on Saturday was his 52nd game in charge. He's consistent, as well as overrated.

In hindsight we've missed a trick here. Instead of hiring QSF 30 minutes after binning Gracia, we should have spent a week leaking stories to the press about bringing Silva back and asking Everton every 45 minutes permission to speak to him.

I’m going to ask a question, obviously I’m not a Watford fan so I don’t know all of the details... is what Silva did that much worse than managers being fired at the first sign of trouble? Or players being signed and chucked on the scrap heap after a few games? Watford seem to turn over a lot of staff and on this occasion one of them dumped you before you dumped them.

I don’t expect this to be a popular point of view....

Not popular but it is easy to see that point of view.
From my perspective and probably many others besides,Silva was hugely duplicitous and apparently instructed his agents to continue their ( Everton) pursuit of him.
He also sulked more than a three year old and was unprofessional in the extreme.
Just another example of modern football I suppose.

Ah yes the sulking, I remember now that he did have a face like a smacked arse when it started to end. I guess you can let someone off for a bit of a sulk when they’ve got some goodwill in the bank, like we did with Mahrez.

Yes. Were were on a roll had massive potential having a good start to the season and he actively sort out a move to break his contract when interest from outside was revealed after just 10 games. When we said we were happy with him and would not let him leave he pretty much downed tools wrecked the team confidence and engineered a sacking.

In hindsight we should have got shot as soon as he wanted out, but when you've set up a team around a manager who's performing well, no amount of money is going to compensate for the upheaval of sourcing a new manager and getting the team back up to speed.

It could be argued that the loss in revenue due to poor league position his tenure caused is much larger than any subsequent compensation gained. The bloke is an arse of the highest order and as we have found out, actually not much of a manager.

I don't mind anyone dumping us if they do well, in the same way we're so casual about dumping them if form starts to go a bit iffy. But Silva didn't really hang around long enough to do well. He basically downed tools as soon as Everton came calling and I think it was worse because he only signed for us that summer.

Fingers crossed the gods are writing the script now. The threads are all being weaved for Silva to lose his job after a catastrophic thumping by us. Slimy weasel. On a par with Mr.Integrity.
