Unless he picks up a career ending injury in training this week, Sarr should, at the very least, be on the bench.

So another day ending in "y", then.

I think it's fairly certain we'll see players in the right positions at least. I am less certain that the 4-2-2-2 is out. I'm also not covinced that it's a huge problem. We as fans tend to make more of formations than we ought to. The 4-2-2-2 has been in place because our arguably 4 best players (Doucoure, Capoue, Deulofeu and Pereyra) can all be on the pitch, in positions that they feel comfortable in and... we have more protection for our slow defence.

I expect that we'll see Deulofeu return to the top with Deeney. I think it will look like this:

    Foster

    Janmaat Cathcart Dawson Holebas

    Doucoure Capoue

    Sarr Pereyra

    Deulofeu Deeney
    ---------------------------

    Gomes
    Mariappa
    Hughes
    Masina
    Gray
    Success

I would be surprised to see Sarr, Pereyra, Deulofeu, and Deeney all start. I think at least one of the first two will be on the bench, maybe both.

A handsome momento of the day.

Sunderland's winning team from 1903. I believe the League winners were invited to play (& generally beat) Corinthian Casuals each year.

We grudgingly returned this monster to CC after 1982, only for CC to sell it to an American.

It has never been seen by the British public since.

Yes, but the 4 2 2 2 has ben found out, thats the problem. This team is more than capable of ajusting and playing 4 3 3. It puts Delafoo in an attacking role and gives our elderly backline more protection.

Our lack of pace in defence and generally poor defending from wingers/outside backs is what's been found out. Femenia and Janmaat aren't magically going to get better because there are 3 up top instead of 2. Holebas isn't going to get younger and pacier, and neither are Dawson/Cathcart/Mariappa. The formation is designed so that 2 players who can actually run (Capoue and Doucoure) sit in front of the slow centre-halves. The next 2 up are supposed to track back and give cover to the fullbacks. A 4-3-3 just puts one less man in the centre and reallocates some others. The basic flaws still exist. What you have to hope for (whether it's a 4-2-2-2, a 4-4-2 or something else is that the added pace of Sarr running at people keeps the opposing fullbacks from joining the attack and even pulls their midfield a little deeper. That should take some pressure off - at least on that side - enabling the back 6, (or sadly, 7... however many it takes) to be able to clog up the middle and/or flow to protect Holebas' side.

I think you change very little from last Saturday. If you drop players on the basis of one game you're doomed. Hopefully Sarr/Welbeck is fit for the bench. The most depressing thing last week was (Pereyra aside possibly) there was nobody on the bench that was going to change what was happening.

Honestly, does it really matter at this point? Yesterday is gone; it seems somewhat pointless being concerned about Troy’s 2010 fitness levels now, much as I would have liked him to hit the ground running every year.

If only Captain Talisman had remained on the wing, he'd back at Halesowen Town now, I blame Dyche for that. Whilst, he wouldn't need to pretend he'd lost x stone every pre-season. I'm amazed he's not the shape of a TdF mountain climber, given the incredible amount of weight he alleges to have lost.

I'm not concerned about anything, just pointing out the inherent flaw in his most recent puff piece interview.

And we'd all have liked him to hit the ground running every year, rather than hitting it waddling like he sometimes has.

I genuinely believe we could win, i think the trouble with Brighton is they were too physical for us, we were playing tippy tappy football (badly) and they were just crowding us out.

Problem with predicting the result is that I think we are the most inconsistent side in English Football , we go from being able to beat any team in the league (except Man City) to being a shower of **** that couldn’t beat an average conference side.

Watford somewhere between 0 and 6 Everton 2

And I like foster , but for God’s sake stop letting players run past you (although to be fair maybe a criticism that should be aimed more at the defenders)

Going to smash this tinpot club from up north. Sooner they are relegated back to the championship where they belong the better. We need big clubs in the Prem like Leeds, Notts Forest and Sheff Wed, not tiny irrelevant clubs like Everton that have no history.

Not necessarily. They must be nervous to kick start the season as well. The key is an energetic performance. 3-0 either way wouldn’t surprise me.

    But we’re not inconsistent!

Under Javi, we lose to the top 6, beat the bottom 8 & draw with the lot in the middle, more or less.

That’s the alarming aspect of Brighton.

A rare exception to the natural order of things.

It's well known that we've never won at Goodison. Is there any other team we've never beaten on their own ground? (Excluding obscure clubs from the 1890s that we only played once, etc.)

I do wish posters would stop boasting about how much dosh they made out of a heavy WFC defeat, how they regularly lump on us getting thumped and how they're seemingly proud of their 'cleverness'.

There's something faintly nauseating about betting against your own team. What were you hoping for at k.o.? What were you hoping for at 0-2?

There are plenty of other matches to bet on.

The thing about gamblers is they will boast about their one off big win but never tell you about their previous 30 punts big losing streak.

Bet he's lost £££'s betting on big Watford defeats ..

Boasting aside, if you've got good knowledge about something why not take advantage of it? Brighton looked massively overpriced to win last Saturday and so it proved. I had a fiver on them beat us but only for the straight win, not by a certain score. Essentially an insurance bet.
