I have scored the same number of goals as all our strikers put together.

An available if needed against West Ham.

It was called Being in a Pub. The level of excited, over-stated simplistic arguments was much the same as it is now. Sarcasm --check, wise-guys --check. Alcohol --probably rather more. No asterisks in the swear words, though.

What other form of entertainment would people pay to see every week regardless of the quality or performance?

    Sign of madness?

Absolutely, and that’s part of the problem. For years now referees only give penalties when the attacker falls down. It encourages diving. Remember the Lacazette incident in our game at Arsenal last year: he was fouled but stumbled on to try and get a shot at goal, which missed. The ref should have rewarded him by then giving a penalty.

Forums/twitter/etc weren't around when we were awful in the 90s though.

If social media had been around in the 80s GT would have been called a turnip head by WFC fans years before the sun ever did.

This is the modern world. Deal with it.

Yep. Have to say based on those highlights, we didn't look too bad.

After the brighton humiliation, I think most people realised that we were unlikely to write history with our first ever win at Goodison, so a decent performance and perhaps a draw was the best we could expect. We got the former and deserved the latter.

Our defence is poor and our attack is flawed, but we had that all last season and were more than fine.

    I'm more upbeat now.

I think PG is more cross dressing and being effeminate. I recall Hugh Grant being exposed as a member, in the 1990s, back when pouves were still largely frowned upon.

I think the **** in a pig thing was connected to the Bullingdon, though that might have been the burning a 50 quid note in front of a vagrant.

I'm not an Oxford man, myself.

Just googled it. 'Stepping out with an even-toed ungulate' is definitely a PGS fetish. Not Bullingdon.

People have been complete ****s throughout history. It amazes me when people hark back to the good old days as if everyone were brothers in arms. People used to piss in other fans pockets on the terraces is an example that this was not the case.

The only difference between then and now is people can broadcast their ****ishness to the world, rather than just the poor sod with the drenched pocket in front of them.

Yeah you used to get groups of fans from the same club from different town fighting each other and all sorts. Probably far worse on terraces as it is harder to get to people these days. Mind you, it's amazing how a row or two of plastic seats is usually enough to hold two pwoper hard men apart from each other.

Which is all well and good and of course you are entitled to have your opinion.

But there are people in business who are paid fortunes to foresee a crisis and to advise a company to act, rather than have that company fall into the crisis and have all the issues that throws up.

Are we in a crisis? No, not at this point. But it’s more than fair that some fans voice their concerns that we look like we are heading that way. Some don’t want to wait another 4 months until we are potentially slap bang in the middle of a trouble, and would rather the club act if the warning signs are there, even if you do.

I heard today that Gracia is going though the worst run of his managerial career. Luckily the run is coming between seasons, so last season has been forgotten by quite a few, or is not considered important.

When I saw how Sociedad destroyed us a week before the season started, I was really concerned that we were just not ready. Gracia even eluded to this in his post-match interview by saying there is still a lot of work to do.

We were not ready for Brighton. No matter how much Gracia said we were, we were not. That's obvious to everyone and you cannot hide from that. I think a lot was put into getting players really physically fit, which they were, but not enough was given to tactical play, mental strength and motivation. You have to lay that at Gracia's door I'm afraid. To my mind, we lost so badly against Brighton because the players were arrogant and not ready for the challenge.

We were far more like Watford on Saturday. Small things went against us, but hopefully that will change in the coming weeks.

If you look just at the on target shots for this season, we've had 5 shots on target, which has produced 0 goals. The opposition have had 5 shots on target, which has produced 4 goals, so we're being punished but not rewarded. Even VAR decisions have not gone our way, when many expected both decisions to have gone the other way.

Over 38 games that will even out in terms of luck, but we have to do it our self and we cannot rely on referees or feel sorry for ourselves.

Time for the team to roll their sleeves up and fight for that win on Saturday. We have to want it more than them, just as Brighton did to us. If we show that attitude then we'll greatly improve our chances of winning.

Only the most critical of forum members might think Gracia should be sacked at this point. Although I actually think in their heart of hearts, no one really thinks that. He’s earned more than enough credit to stay in the role.

But as things are going, he’s burning through that credit. Saturday was indeed a brighter performance but when you are on the back of the combined form from last season and this, good losing performances get lost in stereo. A defeat is a defeat. The club needs to pick up points at the moment, decent performances are secondary. 2 or less points from the next two games, with the fixtures that follow will be alarming.

There are fans saying he should get another 8-10 games minimum. I think that’s crazy. Being at the bottom and adrift by 4-5 points of safety is incredibly difficult to escape and the PL relegation zone is like quicksand - just because clubs have done it in the past, that doesn’t mean it’s easy. And it takes excellent leadership and a sense of togetherness to do it. I’m doubtful if we have that at the moments

Gracia should be tasked with 4-6 points from the next two games. Any less than that and he should be given the unenviable task of having to get points against the bigger clubs in the 2 following games. If we still can’t achieve that, I think the club would be silly not to pull the trigger.

Here's Derek Payne's view on the penalty incident. He says he can't believe it wasn't given. So another pundit/ex-player who has categorically said it should have been a penalty.

Does any one remember only three months ago, Antonio diving in the box and a penalty was given, just because Kiko ran into him?

Highly unlikely but that's not a bad thing. His commentary is entertaining and a darn site better than the boring bloke who tends to do WFC commentary on other mediums available.

I wonder what Derek Payne looks like these days? Have the years been kind to him? I've searched the internet and the only image I can find of him is this one which was taken a few years back.

I think he's pretty honest in what he says. He's not the only one saying it, just the latest.

I think the majority of people felt it was a penalty, even Everton fans, but the way GD went over may have been enough to make the officials think twice about it.

Players have to go down in a far more convincing way, as he was certainly fouled. Players do have to go over though, as if GD rode the tackle and just stumbled, he would never get a penalty.....ever. IMO referees are the cause of player diving.
