Tonight, The Packers (Green Bay) take on the Broncos (Denver) on MNF.

The last meeting between the pair saw Ahman Green, now with the Houston Texans, rush for 218 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including a 98-yard score in the fourth quarter, as the host Packers crushed the Broncos, 31-3, in December 2003

The Broncos have won 3 straight on Monday Night Football and come off a 31-28 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Packers are coming off their bye week.

Did I mention that I am friends (well co-workers really) with an NFL umpire?

I am. Interesting conversations about the game and the perspective of an official. He did about two or three NFL Europe games a year until that ended, so he got several chances to see big European soccer and liked it well.

Not sure where he is/was this weekend but I looked for him in Wembley and didn't see him.

He's a very uncontroversial umpire, which is about as nice a thing as you can say about an official.

What does the "Sack" mean in NFL?

 

A sack is when a defensive player tackles the Quarterback behind the line of scrimmage (i.e. for a loss of yards).

 

You can talk on here before I watch it as I'm not stupid enough to look on an NFL Thread before watching an NFL match.

Anyway I've watched it now. Fair play to Brett 'The Big Man' Favre, he got the job done, as did Cutler to an extent (I won this week's fantasy football), I will say it now this man will be huge.

However I was disappointed with the Bronc's non-existant defense, especially this much revered pass defense. Every time Favre dropped back it looked like he'd get a big gain.

There, I have now used up my week's allocation of americanisms

 

For those that care, Pro Bowl voting is underway.

 

I demand that nobody votes for the pro bowl this early in the season

I have to admit NFL.COM was done right. It's a good site for the league.

I might take the Lions over the Broncos.
I know they are at home, but the Broncos only win on last second Elam field goals. Kind of weak, but one thing you can say is they are due for a win.

I might also take the Cowpukes over the Eagles based on their form, but you know what they say: "On any given Sunday..."

Colts/Pats:
This is what NFL was born to deliver. A true mid-season battle for bragging rights. Should be a good one. Both teams are at more or less full strength with lots of momentum. This is like an Man Utd v Barcelona Champions League game to the NFL faithful.

Hey, I disagree with some, i.e. Pats vs Colts springs to mind but I think we agree on most.

 

I'm a terrible prognosticator.

The only games I could ever call were the Chicago Bulls when they had Michael Jordan. I was pretty good at picking when they'd lose which wasn't often.

 

I cannont see how anyone can call Pats over Colts. Manning Sr is pure unadulterated quarterbacking orgasmry. As is Joseph 'The Big Man' Addai.

I also think that Dungy is a greater coach than Bellechick. Althoguh I may be argued with on that front.

 

I just think the Pats have got it going all over the field. The Colts O is better than the Pats, but by not as much as the Pats D is better than the Colts D.

 

Well, it's on...1st Quarter of the Colts/Pats.

I see I got one of my other picks right so far.

1) Lions won
2) Cowboys won
3) Colts/Pats was a helluva game, even though the Colts choked at the end of the game.

Just an idle question, not a spoiler:
I wonder if an MNF game has ever ended at 70-0?

Well, it didn't tonight.

 

I am aware that Manning Sr is Archie, but of the current ones, Peyton is the oldest. Maybe I should refer to him as Manning Maior.

Anyway, I don't know the score of the MNF, but you are saying it was a whipping and I have the Ravens D in my fantasy football, so I'm preparing for a disapointment.

Thirdly, I think the Colts were unlucky, and I'm almost as bad at prediciting footbawl scores as football scores it seems.
