My friend Jamie who works in the Media department has said that Eric Dier is close to agreeing a loan deal. Apparently Tottenham would prefer to play Winks/Sissoko over him. Dier keen to come as it's not a million miles from his gaf.

    What do we think?
I'd play him over Doucoure any day of the week.

Luckily this definitely isn't happening because he is utter crap, and I fully expect him to drop to his true level over the next couple of years.

Injury prone so fit right in !!

Another slow central midfielder /right back and occasional Centre half ..

    Well stocked there !

Really hope this is just a joke. He’s awful. You’d play him over Doucs ? Have you never watched either player ?

If it is true (not sure I believe it is yet) you shouldn’t be name dropping your mate like that! Couldn’t they get in trouble?

I don’t believe this is true but will humour it for a minute as if it is...plus there was some guy on here the other day (Spanish flag for avatar) who said we’d be signing Sarr, a capped English player and one other...could there be genuine ITK’s on here???

Anyway. If Dier was brought in on loan in the guise of letting Doucoure go, it’s a god awful deal. But - if it was a stand-alone deal, I really don’t see the issue. Can play CDM and with doubts over Cleverley and Chalobah, that’s no bad thing. Can also cover at CB and also at RB. Is homegrown, has international experience, played regularly for a Top 6 club, good age...and crucially doesn’t take a huge chunk out of what transfer budget we have.

    I’d welcome the move personally.

Ah yes, this will the be the year that the 'big names' of the past want to use the little clubs in order to try and get into the Euro 2020 squad.

The thing is, Eric Dier should never have ever been near an England squad even if they ran out of players.

    Utter *****.

He would be an OK signing in my book as he is a very versatile player and certainly as good as most of the players we have and possibly better than most.

Versatile in that he is equally crap in a number of positions. Better than what we have given that he’s an expensive 4/10 whereas our existing back up is 3/10.

I'm glad to see agree with me that he would be an improvement on what we have already got ;)

Never rated the guy personally but some decent coaches seemed to have done in the past.

Assuming both still here then would have him behind Caps and Doucs in Midfield but reckon he could do a decent job at CB for us.

I’d welcome the move for the reasons I’ve said in my post. But in no way shape or form would I play him over Doucoure. Just no.

Also - are you sure your friend ‘Jamie’ would be keen on you using his name and job on here to give us this info?!

    Ahead of Cathcart at CB?
Certainly not ahead of Capoue/Doucoure in CM but good cover.

I’d also point to the fact that Pochettino regularly picked him in games against the other Top 6 clubs. Having a player like that amongst our ranks might be being looked at as an option to sort out our own deficiencies against those clubs.

It's a bit early to throw him into first team contention. Best let him have a good pre-season and we can have him ready to go for the January window.

if this was in anyway true, he could only possibly play CB. He'd be at least 7th choice as a CM (Doucs, Caps, Quina, Cleverley, Chalobah and Dele-Bashiru) and 3rd choice RB.
