Rumours of a loan from Liverpool.

Sounds plausible... If he wants to come here. And not the South Coast.

Origi and Batshuayi would both be decent, the latter being the obvious first choice however

Last season Origi scored 6 in 31 games (1,967 minutes) for Wolfsburg.

For comparison Gray scored 5 in 31 games (1,495 minutes).

Honestly not sure he is a lot better than what we have.

Batshuayi would be class, but imagine he will want to go to a club with European football.

He really isn't going to solve our lack of a goalscoring centre forward.

Is he quicker than Deeney though?

Batshuayi would be good, but Origi would actually be extremely underwhelming. We don't need yet another striker that doesn't score goals for f**k sake.

I think the overall consensus from the other thread determined that most strikers are underwhelming. You currently have to pay £20m for a striker who has scored 14 goals in 4 years

Best we can hope for is sticking 3 strikers together to try and get 20 between them

  11. Lets hope this is just media speculation.

I’d push the boat out if we had a chance at Batshuayi.

Why does anyone think there's any possibility of signing Batshuayi?

Scored a goal every 178 minutes in the league for Liverpool across two seasons... just wasn't on the pitch that much so only managed 12 in total. Running out of time for alternatives now, Okaka out Origi in would be an upgrade on our forward options wouldn't it?

Origi is clearly very talented. Like a lot of young strikers he has struggled a bit to star when leading the line. But leading the line is the most difficult role in football and the few that can do it are in short supply.

A bit of a risk, but he isn’t like an Oulare. Origi is a player who has already scored important goals for club and country and put in outstanding performances. Just not consistently yet.

I think he would be a decent signing. He is big, strong and more mobile than what we have in that mould currently (Deeney). He never got a run of games at Liverpool but he is still young and this could be a good move for both player and us. We are running out of time so our options are limited. Not only that ever team in the bottom half is looking for that striker.
Obviously Batshuayi would be our first choice but I suspect a top team in Germany, Italy or France would get him.

Well I simply don't rate him personally. Not seen anything from him - and there is nothing in his record - to suggest he is going to make any real difference here. I'd rather use Penaranda if he does end up being available.

Also if it is only a loan then it's nothing but a temporary solution that will likely leave us back in the same mess this time next year. Even if he does do well, we probably lose him because his fee/wages/expectations all go up.

Who do you suggest we go for and be realistic. Batshuayi is out of our reach. Not having a go but I’m interested to see where people think we are going to get this 15 goal a season striker from

As mentioned in another thread I'd look at Portu from Girona. More of a second striker but still scored something like 12 in La Liga last season, only 25/26, decent pace, skillful and composed.

I don't even expect a 15 goal striker, 10-12 would be nice. Origi has never even gotten close to those numbers and is unlikely to suddenly become a double digits goalscorer here.

Would love Origi. Very talented, super quick and suffered as never had a run of games. He looked like he would success at one point but was competing against s9me pretty competent strikers at Liverpool

A loan with option to buy would be great.

If we took him on loan I'm pretty sure it would be a loan with the option to buy should we wish, so don't worry too much about that.

He's far from a sure thing, but when fit and given opportunities as a centre-forward then as has been pointed out earlier his scoring record at Liverpool (and also at Wolfsburg before they changed manager) was basically 1 goal in 2 games. He's also still only 23 years old so should have room to improve, and his style of play is such that he could work well as a lone striker - I reckon he's worth a punt.

Gray will be sh14 hot this season anyway, so worst case he's a better option to come off the bench than Deeney.

Batshuayi would be ideal for us, but unfortunately I suspect he'd be out of our reach.

  25. Is he though? A year ago I'd have said Deulofeu was out of our reach.

He's not been Chelsea's first choice striker, spent half of last year on loan, and a few papers saying he's possibly off on loan to Valencia this year.

  27. Just had a trawl through his videos, on a positive note he does look an upgrade on what we have

..and there is something poetic about ripping off Everton and spending it at Liverpool

A 26 year old who has only reached double figures in league goals once in his career, which has mostly been played in the Spanish 2nd division, or lower. He’d also probably cost between £15m-£20m.

Genuine question Nath, are you ever content? Is it just football you're overly negative about?

So, what you're saying is, in his most recent and relevant season, he scored more league goals than Origi has ever managed, despite usually playing in a slightly deeper role?

    He's a very good player.

  33. NathWFC

    NathWFC First Team

I don't personally think Origi is a great option, it's that simple. I've balanced that by giving a positive suggestion on a player I would personally like to see here. It's not just "negativity", it's an opinion, and in this case I'm not the only one who has this opinion.

That's all we can ask for really. I think it's quite a smart move if it comes off. Certainly has some pace.

10 in 33 appearances in all competitions first season for Liverpool, 11 in 41 the next.

40 of those 73 appearances were as sub. Ok, Liverpool obviously create a lot more chances than we do, but I reckon he'd have a decent shout of getting 10-12 for us if he was our main striker.
